Last week I was proud to receive the endorsement of the Washington Machinists Council, so I wanted to take some time today to share with you why this endorsement is so important to me. But before I do, today’s our critical mid-month fundraising deadline, so if you’re able, please chip in $10 or more to help us reach our goal.

My grandfather was a Machinist and a proud member of the Machinist Union. When my mom and uncles were growing up, my grandfather would often take his kids to the union hall. He understood that being a part of a union gave our family a foundation for success.

I can only imagine what he’d say watching his grandson meeting with and earning the endorsement of the Washington Machinists Council, which represents over 40,000 workers in aerospace and other industries.

It’s because of my grandfather that I learned the importance of workers’ rights. As Attorney General of Washington, I will be committed to ensuring the rights of every worker and labor group in Washington are protected. Washingtonians deserve to have an Attorney General who understands that unions are the backbone of a strong and healthy economy but to make this happen, I need your help.

I’m personally asking: Can you make a contribution of any size today to help us reach our mid-month goal, and ensure Washington has a pro-labor, pro-worker champion fighting for them in the Office of the Attorney General?

Thank you,

— Nick

Friends –

As we settle into the evening or are just starting our day, I wanted to share some love with you this Valentine’s Day. For me, this holiday is about celebrating agape love, friendship, and family.

Agape love is the highest form of love, and it’s the kind of love paired with action that shows empathy, wants the best for us all, and is intended for everyone. So, what does love have to do with this race? My motivation to be your next Commissioner of Public Lands is guided by my deep love for this place.

I care deeply about the well-being of Washington State, and its most precious resources: the people, the land, the forests, and our waters. Both my parents chose this place as home. From an early age, I was taught to be grateful and not to take for granted the beauty of this place, to be conservative and careful with resources, water, and energy.

The Department of Natural Resources needs a leader who will work in collaboration with people in every corner of our state to build a clean fueled, fair economy that supports healthy, thriving communities.

Together, we can prioritize a higher quality of life for the workers. We can build a world where kids play outside in the last weeks of their summer—instead of sheltering from the smoke. We can live in a world where the land provides everything we need, and we can define value differently—it starts with public good.

I came with the work and experience that when we center racial, social, environmental, and economic justice and create organized space for the voices of historically excluded individuals in rural, urban, and suburban parts of our state—we can find innovative solutions that expand what is possible for all of us. Join us in this fight, because together, we will win!

Adelante,

In the post-Roe world we live in, Washingtonians can’t afford to have an Attorney General who won’t be a champion for reproductive rights.

Nick’s conservative Republican opponent is supported by the very party that has worked hard to strip women of one of their most fundamental rights. And with Republicans nationwide threatening to restrict abortion rights further, even in states with protections like Washington, Nick is the person we can trust to protect reproductive rights.

As Washington’s next Attorney General, Nick is committed to protecting a woman’s right to an abortion — and he’ll do everything he can to protect all forms of reproductive health care from any attacks from right-wing extremists.

Please chip in whatever you can today to help us reach our goal ahead of Thursday’s mid-month deadline and ensure Washingtonians have a champion for reproductive rights working for them as Attorney General.

Thanks for taking the time to support Nick.

Big news!

Bob Ferguson for Governor yard signs are available!

Katie Ferguson excited to see her first Ferguson yard sign!

When I first ran for King County Council, I put up thousands of yard signs and won a close campaign. I know those yard signs made a difference. In fact, political research shows that yard signs help campaigns win. They increase awareness, visibility, and enthusiasm.

A study by a political science professor at Columbia University found that political signs increase a candidate’s support “somewhere between 1 and 2 percentage points on average.”

But supplies are limited, and these signs will go fast. Don’t wait – order yours today!

Click here to reserve your yard sign today!

Thanks,

Bob Ferguson

Happy Friday!

Since launching this campaign, I’ve had the pleasure of spending a lot of time on the road. I’m crisscrossing our beautiful state and meeting with Washingtonians where they are, in their towns, both big and small.

Meeting and talking directly with people is my favorite part of campaigning, and it’s thanks to this grassroots team that I’m able to travel across the state, spreading our message to voters of a brighter and more equal future for all Washingtonians.

Just last week, I spent a couple of days in Southwest Washington, meeting with the Cowlitz and Klickitat County Democrats. Along with hosting a great event in Vancouver, where I was able to further share with Washingtonians my experiences of working in public service and my plans for the Office of the Attorney General.

Your grassroots support means the world to me and the entire campaign, and we wouldn’t be able to continue our work of reaching voters in all Washington’s 39 counties without you. So that’s why I’m reaching out today ahead of the weekend:

Will you pitch in whatever you can to help keep me on the road traveling around Washington and helping grow the momentum of our people-powered campaign?

Thank you! I couldn’t do this without you. Enjoy your weekend!

08. February 2024 · Comments Off on Steve Hobbs For Secretary of State, February 8, 2024 · Categories: Elections

Hello friends,

The Washington State Senate unanimously passed my request legislation that protects Washington’s public libraries.

ESB 5824 does three critical things: 1) increases the signature threshold for filing petitions to dissolve libraries from 100 taxpayers to 25% of eligible voters in the district; 2) increases the signature threshold for filing petitions to dissolve library districts from 10% of voters residing outside of incorporated cities or towns to 25% of eligible voters in the district; and 3) expands voter eligibility to allow all qualified electors of a library district to participate in a vote on propositions for library district dissolution.

Public libraries here and around the country are being subjected to coordinated efforts to ban books. When opponents fail to ban books, they use other reprehensible tactics. In Columbia County, Wash., book banners attacked their district’s librarian, publicly calling him a pedophile among other horrible falsehoods. When that still didn’t accomplish their goals, they sought to shutter the library entirely.

Sen. Sam Hunt (D-Olympia), my friend and the bill’s lead sponsor in the Senate, eloquently said: “We’re just trying to give all the people a voice and not let minority rule. Closing libraries is a stupid idea.”

As your Secretary of State, it is equally important that I defend the rights of qualified voters’ access to their say in measures that impact their public services. The antiquated state law that currently prevents city residents the ability to vote on whether their library should be closed is plain undemocratic.

If passed by the House and signed by the Governor, our bill will protect dozens of rural county, intercounty and island library districts in Washington that are at risk of dissolution by a minority who would rather close a public library entirely than allow the presence of a title that offends them.

Democracies need public libraries.

Passage of this bill will be a tremendous step toward protecting public libraries in Washington and the freedom to access a wide variety of library materials.

Thank you for reading,

Steve Hobbs

“It’s been enough to convince Secretary of State Steve Hobbs to ask the Legislature to step in, and we’re glad to see that level-headed legislators have responded.”

Postscript – This is scary stuff right here! This is a MAGA Republican candidate for Secretary of State in Missouri making a terrifying pledge to voters:

“This is what I will do to the grooming books when I become Secretary of State: 🔥. These books come from a Missouri public library. When I’m in office, they will burn 🔥🔥🔥.”

08. February 2024 · Comments Off on Maria Beltran for 14th LD Senate – February 8, 2024 · Categories: Elections

I’m writing to you today to share some exciting news. I am excited to officially announce my candidacy for State Senate in the new 14th District!

I am proud to have been born and raised in Yakima. Today, I launch my campaign to give a voice to people who, for generations, have never had a voice in our community. As the daughter of immigrants, I learned from an early age the values of hard work and integrity, learning from my parents as they picked crops to provide for our family. Later, I would then go on to become the first in my family to graduate from high school and college.

My experience tackling our state’s biggest challenges, working in both state and local government, will allow me to hit the ground running to deliver for our community. Working families and individuals are struggling to keep up with the cost of living and getting access to critical programs. I will work tirelessly to bring state resources back to the Yakima Valley to help address our housing, workforce shortages, and behavioral and healthcare needs. I will work with everyone, advocates, and local and regional municipalities to deliver results for our community.

I’m honored to kick off my journey on the campaign trail with endorsements from, Yakama Nation Councilmember Asa Washines, State Senators Rebecca Saldaña and Javier Valdez, State Representative Debra Entenman, Yakima City Councilmember Danny Herrera, former Sunnyside City Councilmember and State Senate Candidate Bengie Aguilar, local and nonprofit leader Laura Armstrong, professor and Yakima resident Maria Cuevas, Ella Adelante Executive Director Maria Fernandez, former Yakima County Commissioner Candidate Angie Girard, and founder of Rural Americans United Doug White.

During this early stage in the campaign, it is crucial to show that we have the support to be a serious candidate in this race. Will you help us by contributing today?

I look forward to earning your support. Central Washington is such a special place for me. I hope to make sure that every child growing up here can have the same and more opportunities that I’ve had, and can raise their children and grandchildren right here in our community.

Thank you,

Maria Beltran

I’m proud to share the outcome of our investigation and lawsuit against Providence, one of the largest health care systems in the country.

Our investigation found that Providence created barriers for thousands of patients who were legally entitled to financial aid for their medical bills. They not only failed to notify patients about this financial assistance, as the law requires, but also kept collecting payments and sent many of their most vulnerable patients to debt collectors.

One of Providence’s own employees summed it up pretty well. They called the practice, “sending the poor into bad debt.”

Thanks to my team’s work, Providence must provide $157.8 million in refunds and debt forgiveness for nearly 100,000 Washingtonians.

If that sounds like a lot of money – it is! This is the largest resolution in U.S. history for a case like this.

Many Washingtonians are eligible for significant discounts on their out-of-pocket hospital expenses, including co-pays and deductibles. We will ensure that hospitals honor this important law.

As Governor, medical debt relief and bringing down the cost of health care will be a top priority. I’ll make sure there are critical protections that improve affordability.

If you agree and want to help my campaign, here are a few things you can do:

Thank you,

This election year is our opportunity to show up to the ballot box and make our voices heard by those in power. 2024 is a critical election year. With so much on the line for Washingtonians, we have an important question to ask:

Will you commit to voting in the 2024 elections?

Voting is critical to protecting our democracy, and this year, it’s about more than just choosing the next president. This is about voting for leaders at every level of government who will put in the work to further protect our country and our democracy from extremist attacks on our rights and liberties.

Nick is in this race to create a future where everyone can be safe and prosper no matter their age, their race, their gender, or where they live. But to ensure our shared vision for a brighter future becomes a reality, Nick needs your vote

Do you commit to having your voice heard by voting in the 2024 elections?

Thanks for taking the time to pledge to vote in this year’s critical elections.
