Friends –
As we settle into the evening or are just starting our day, I wanted to share some love with you this Valentine’s Day. For me, this holiday is about celebrating agape love, friendship, and family.
Agape love is the highest form of love, and it’s the kind of love paired with action that shows empathy, wants the best for us all, and is intended for everyone. So, what does love have to do with this race? My motivation to be your next Commissioner of Public Lands is guided by my deep love for this place.
I care deeply about the well-being of Washington State, and its most precious resources: the people, the land, the forests, and our waters. Both my parents chose this place as home. From an early age, I was taught to be grateful and not to take for granted the beauty of this place, to be conservative and careful with resources, water, and energy.
The Department of Natural Resources needs a leader who will work in collaboration with people in every corner of our state to build a clean fueled, fair economy that supports healthy, thriving communities.
Together, we can prioritize a higher quality of life for the workers. We can build a world where kids play outside in the last weeks of their summer—instead of sheltering from the smoke. We can live in a world where the land provides everything we need, and we can define value differently—it starts with public good.
I came with the work and experience that when we center racial, social, environmental, and economic justice and create organized space for the voices of historically excluded individuals in rural, urban, and suburban parts of our state—we can find innovative solutions that expand what is possible for all of us. Join us in this fight, because together, we will win!
