Tri-City Democrats

Tri-City Democrats – Friday, February 13, 6:00 PM
Greetings fellow Democrats!
This month we’ll meet at the round Table Pizza on Court Street in Pasco. February 13 at 6pm. Come gather with like-minded folks and share some fellowship, food and beverages. As is our normal practice, Tri-City Democrats will order several pizzas to share. We’ll have the donation box available for those who care to financially support the group. Some of our generous members are likely to purchase pitchers of beer to share. If you want the salad bar or soft drinks, you are on your own for those items.
At this writing, we do not have a planned program, but we will have ‘Hate Has no Home Here’ signs available. We will also briefly discuss our budget for 2026.

COMMUNITY ARTS ORGANIZATIONS:
Why They Matter to All of Us
Thursday February 26 | Noon
Arts organizations are fundamental to the vitality of communities. These groups contribute immensely by fostering social cohesion, supporting economic development, and improving a community’s overall well-being.
Through their activities and programs, arts organizations bring people together, encourage stronger social connections, and help cultivate a sense of shared identity among residents. Despite their many contributions, arts organizations are currently facing substantial financial challenges.
To examine these issues, the February Badger Club Forum will examine the status and challenges of funding the arts in the Tri-Cities. The event will feature a panel of representatives from various segments of the community, including those involved in community development and members from arts organizations.
If you are with us in person at the Richland Library or online, we’ll be happy to see you. Please visit our website to register.

Today we…
Support new arrivals through education, relationships and community so they can thrive in their new home.
In the future, we will…
Create a community of open hearts, helping hands and supportive systems where strangers become friends and we all thrive.
“My favorite thing about working here is seeing students succeed,” says Jon Gibbons, a volunteer in B5’s adult English program. He’s had a lot of opportunities to see students succeed as he volunteered in our program daily since May 2025.
Jon has been accepted into the Peace Corps and looks forward to leaving soon to teach English in Kosovo. Being an assistant in Lois Douglass’ beginning level English class is great preparation for that experience. Jon has learned a lot about teaching English from watching Lois.

In the beginning level class, Jon works with individuals and small groups, helping students practice grammar, letter and sound recognition, and more. Recently he worked with one woman on her speaking skills, asking and answering questions in preparation for the level three speaking test. Having Jon’s help in the class allows Lois to continue teaching the larger group.

Part of B5’s vision is to create a sense of community and belonging among their students, helping them feel at home in America. Jon feels he plays a part of that vision. “[In our classes] we have Afghan students greeting their Hispanic colleagues. It transcends language and religion, and it brings people together who wouldn’t normally be brought together,” he says.
Jon will be missed by both Lois and the students when he leaves for the Peace Corps. We wish him well and hope he has many opportunities to apply what he’s learned at B5 in Kosovo. Meanwhile, B5 is looking for more volunteers to fill the hole Jon leaves behind. Maybe one of those people is you!
You can learn more about volunteering at B5 here.

FAQ from A Better Richland
Richland registered voters will vote this November to update the Richland City Council election process to be like the rest of Washington’s First-Class Cities, Pasco, and Kennewick.
Currently all seven members of the Richland council are elected “at-large.” They can live anywhere in the city. A vote to change the city charter would mean five council members would have to be elected from the districts where they live and two would still be elected “at-large”. Each of the five proposed districts would have approximately 12,000 residents. An interactive map on our website can show you in which district you would live.

Dear Friend,
This past weekend, Washington State House and Senate lawmakers released some big plans—their budget proposals through 2027. Thanks to you, the worst-case scenario is officially off the table. We dodged some major cuts, and now we need your help passing the Millionaires Tax so we can start reinvesting in our families for real!
Sign on to urge House lawmakers to pass the Washington State Millionaires Tax!
We’re celebrating the good news—we protected what matters! Because of your advocacy, the current budget avoids many of the bad cuts that we were deeply concerned about. We successfully protected the child care budget by preventing enrollment caps and eligibility changes while also maintaining full funding for infant and childhood mental health consultation, equity grants, and rate enhancements for infant care. These wins mean stability for thousands of families today. We’re breathing a major sigh of relief—and feeling energized knowing that our collective voice made these accomplishments possible.
While this budget keeps us afloat, many families are still treading water. Washington State is still in a steep $2.3 billion budget deficit. If we don’t figure out a plan for new revenue, all the bad cuts we just avoided are going to be completely necessary in the future—and we may even be looking at far more harmful cuts.
Tell the House you stand with lawmakers to pass the Millionaires Tax!
The Millionaires Tax (SB 6346) is the tool we need to move from simply holding the line to making real progress. By generating nearly $3.5 billion annually from just 0.005% of the population, we can begin to reinvest in child care programs that have experienced millions of dollars in cuts and delays over the past several years. Unlocking new revenue through the Millionaires Tax is the first step down the road towards reinvestment in child care and our children’s futures!
When you click, you’ll automatically sign on to our petition that reads:
Dear Representative,
Thank you for avoiding a harmful cap on Working Connections Child Care (WCCC) or changes to WCCC eligibility in the proposed budget. We know that a cap would be devastating to families, particularly those in need of infant care, and reductions in eligibility would upend the lives of thousands of working parents. Moms, parents, and families from across Washington stand with you and thank you for your outstanding leadership!
We urge lawmakers to stand with us and the majority of Washingtonians in support of the Millionaires Tax (SB 6346) to ensure we can avoid those kinds of devastating cuts in the future. This bill will not only bring structural reform to the tax code but also generate billions in future revenue to reinvest in programs hard-hit by this biennium’s deep cuts—including to childcare and early learning.
Let’s get the Millionaires Tax across the finish line!

This year marks two important milestones: the 100th anniversary of historian and author Carter G. Woodson establishing Negro History Week, and the 50th anniversary of Black History Month’s official national commemoration.
We take this time to honor the immeasurable contributions of Black Americans — socially, culturally, tangibly, and intangibly; and to remind ourselves that the mission of Black liberation is inherently tied to all of our collective movements for justice.
Throughout history, Black Americans have stood side-by-side with immigrants in the struggle for liberation. But Black history is not confined to the past. It is a present, living, and continuously evolving story shaped by individuals across every generation in the United States including Black immigrants.
Here in Washington, it’s estimated that 78,000 Black immigrants call our state home, with 68,000 in the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metropolitan area alone¹. They are invaluable community members with deep roots in countries such as Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Eritrea, and Jamaica — who are organizers, workers, artists, parents, and community leaders.
Yet despite Black immigrants’ deep roots in our communities, they are forced to contend with both anti-Black racism and xenophobia. They are disproportionately targeted by immigration enforcement agencies² and policed by the same racist systems that have persecuted Black communities in the United States for generations.
So when communities fail to recognize and uplift Black immigrants, when Black immigrants are attacked by politicians³, or when the reported stories of Black victims of ICE’s terror campaign on our communities are not discussed in the news⁴, we must recognize that this too is anti-Blackness.
Black, immigrant, trans, and queer communities have shaped American culture as we know it today, and our resilience persists against many similar culprits and their tactics: from forced migration and displacement to exclusion and targeted over-policing.
These shared experiences make clear that we also must share a vision for a future in which we can live in joy — freely and unapologetically. Our path forward is one we must walk together, where we reject anti-Blackness for mutual love and respect, and where the wins we fight for support all of us.
By learning from each other and continuing to show up for one another across our differences, we can move toward a future with more freedom, love, and joy for everyone.
In community,

[ENGLISH ABOVE]

Our state’s budget reflects our values.
In Washington, we pride ourselves on being a place where anyone can thrive, regardless of where they came from.
During each legislative session, we work alongside partners, allies, and community members to make that promise real for our immigrant communities—and together, we’ve made real progress.
We made history in 2024 by securing funding to expand Apple Health to low-income immigrants. Last year, we protected more than $150M for Apple Health Expansion to ensure that the thousands that use this service were able to maintain their coverage.
Today, Apple Health Expansion (AHE) provides vital healthcare coverage to nearly 9,000 low-income immigrants across the state who would be otherwise excluded. It’s already helping to close long-standing gaps in healthcare access by ensuring that people can seek medical attention, an organ donor list, and lifesaving care.
Now with less than a month left in this year’s session, critical funding decisions will soon be made. What lawmakers decide will determine whether immigrant communities continue to receive the care they need, or are pushed to the margins.
Washington has been a leader in expanding healthcare access, and at a time when immigrants are being attacked from every direction, we refuse to take away the protections and support we’ve worked so hard to win for our communities.
Thank you for being a part of this movement.
In solidarity,
The Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network
[ENGLISH ABOVE]

A Message from Emily
Programming is in full swing at the Washington Institute for a Democratic Future, and every single weekend, I am reminded why this work matters.
I continue to be in awe of our fellows, our alumni, and the local leaders who generously make time to share their experiences with us. What stands out most is the diversity of thought, even within progressive spaces. Our fellows are learning from one another, from the communities we visit across Washington (and yes, a little bit of Oregon), and from advocates and public servants navigating very different political landscapes and challenges.
The Democratic Party is not a monolith. That reality can sometimes feel messy. It can lead to spirited debate about priorities, strategy, and what deserves our loudest attention. But it is also our strength. When we take the time to truly listen to each other’s lived experiences, to understand the pressures facing different regions and communities, and to reflect on how those realities shape perspective, we build something far more durable. That understanding shapes how we lead. It shapes how we collaborate. And it shapes how we move forward, together.
I invite you to join us for a weekend. Come meet the fellows. Host a reception in your community. Reconnect with your own journey in politics, government, or advocacy. Growth doesn’t stop once we have a title or a role. It continues when we stay curious, stay humble, and stay connected.
We are building leaders for a democratic future, and we are doing it together.
-Emily

Join us for our 17th Annual Trivia Night & Silent Auction on March 19!
The Washington, D.C. trip is just around the corner, and the 2026 Fellows are hard at work preparing for their biggest fundraiser of the year.
Join us at Clock-Out Lounge for WAIDF’s 17th Annual Trivia Night & Silent Auction and help send the next generation of leaders to D.C. Compete for prizes, show off your smarts, and gather your smartest (or most competitive) friends for a night that is always equal parts fun and meaningful.
There are plenty of ways to get involved:
- Buy a ticket or build a team of six. Bring your friends, colleagues, or fellow alumni and claim trivia glory.
- Become an event co-host. Co-hosts receive a team of six plus six drink tickets, and the benefits grow as your sponsorship level increases.
- Donate a silent auction item Gift certificates, unique experiences, themed baskets, premium merchandise, curated art, professional services — we welcome it all. It’s a great way to support the Fellows while showcasing your organization. Got an idea? Email trivia@democraticfuture.org
- Give directly to the D.C. Fund.
Can’t attend? You can still make a difference. Contributions to the D.C. Fund go directly to the Fellows to help cover airfare, meals, transportation, professional attire, and other trip expenses.

Save the Date: Alumni Long Beach Weekend (April 24 – April 26)

As we plan the 2026 Fellowship year, we’d love to know if you’re interested in:
- Hosting one or more fellows in your home, and/or

Gather with alumni, supporters, elected officials, and community leaders and meet our impressive Class of 2026, who will be in Olympia that week. Our cohort of emerging leaders works across public service, advocacy, labor, and civic life throughout Washington State and can’t wait to connect with all of you.
Whether you’re catching up with familiar faces or meeting new people, this reception is about networking, great conversations, and strengthening relationships across the state.
We’ll provide light food, and beverages will be available for purchase.

After the Weekend — Notes and Reflections from the Class of 2026
The first of the series of notes and reflections from the Class of 2026 is brought to you by Xavier Ajeto and Manousos Jacobsen:
Day 1: “The start of day one felt like a college syllabus day; my highlights were the introductions and getting to know everyone. The pace picked up significantly after lunch as we heard from Eric Liu on citizenship and institutions, Wil Johnson on equity, and Ken Workman on tribal affairs. We gained new perspectives on the challenges facing our country and left with a shared sense of civic responsibility and optimism about our role in the solution.”
Day 2: “Day two of our fellowship took us deep into the mechanisms of power. We dug into the weeds, breaking down progressive tax revenue and mapping out how institutional structures shape what’s possible in political organizing and government. We met with the founder Lisa Witter and reflected on the WAIDF’s mission to elevate young people in democratic politics. A highlight of the day was hearing from Seattle Councilmember Alexis Mercedes Rinck, who shared candid insights on running for office and turning progressive values into real policy wins. Our takeaway: meaningful change requires both vision and fluency in the systems that govern us. This is the work that our cohort will continue to build on in the months ahead.”

Thank you for helping meet the needs!
Thanks to your generosity, we were able to meet all of the initial financial assistance requests of the Class of 2026.
One of the most critical aspects of the program is ensuring access and affordability for all fellows throughout the programming year. From mileage for fellows traveling across the state to ensuring everyone can afford lunch, a contribution, whether it’s $5, $25, $250, or $5,000, helps ensure that every fellow in this program can participate fully. Your contribution keeps our tuition low, offsets travel, and opens doors for leaders who might otherwise be shut out of the full experience.
Every dollar helps us live our values: that leadership shouldn’t depend on your income.

Interested in joining the board of directors or board of advisors?
As WAIDF approaches our 30th anniversary in 2028, we’re growing — and we want you to be part of it.
We’re recruiting passionate individuals for two leadership opportunities: our Board of Directors and our newly established Board of Advisors.
Board of Directors
Ready to roll up your sleeves? Our working board is where your voice, expertise, and energy directly shape the next generation of progressive leaders. Directors collaborate to guide strategy, oversee our signature fellowship program, and build the pipeline of leaders Washington needs. We’re seeking problem-solvers with skills in governance, finance, communications, technology, fundraising, or program development. One position we are trying to fill is the Treasurer role. If you have a financial background or are willing to step into the role and learn the ins and outs of being a Treasurer, we’d love to hear from you!
Board of Advisors
Prefer to lend your expertise without the time demands of a governing board? Our first-ever Board of Advisors will serve as strategic thought partners for the road ahead. We’re seeking seasoned professionals who can offer guidance through quarterly meetings and flexible engagement.
Both roles offer the chance to make a lasting impact on progressive leadership development in Washington and beyond.
Ready to join us?

There’s a lot of talk about “centrism” in politics — but what is “the center” really about? Is it about splitting the difference between the far-right and far-left? Or is it about standing for things that are broadly popular and broadly beneficial?
Centrism can mean a lot of different things, but as Civic Action founder Nick Hanauer argues in The New Republic, the neoliberal centrism that has long dominated our politics is fundamentally about balancing the interests of the very wealthy with the interests of everyone else.
The neoliberal centrism of splitting differences is how you end up with a federal minimum wage stagnant at $7.25 for 15 years — it’s right in the center of the $0 that wealthy extremists want, and the $15/hour that’s overwhelmingly popular.
That’s not centrism, that’s defending the status quo.
But there’s also another kind of center — a majoritarian center that’s focused on centering the interests of the majority of people. It’s not about splitting differences — it’s about pursuing policies that are broadly popular and broadly beneficial.
That’s what true majoritarian centrism is about. It’s the neoliberal center that’s actually extreme.
Check out Nick’s piece, share it with friends & family, and let us know what you think.

Washington is still considering budget cuts that would roll back programs people count on when violence happens and when prevention can still work.
Cuts to victim services and community-based violence intervention do not “save” money. They push costs onto survivors, hospitals, schools, first responders, and families, and they make it harder to prevent the next shooting before it happens.
These programs are part of our public safety infrastructure. When funding gets squeezed, the impact is immediate: fewer advocates, fewer services, fewer prevention partners on the ground, and fewer opportunities to intervene before someone is hurt.
Legislators are negotiating the final budget right now. If they hear from us loudly and directly, we can stop these cuts.
Will you email your legislators today and tell them to protect victim services and protect prevention funding?
Thank you for showing up. This is one of those moments where a few minutes from each of us can change the outcome.

This weekend, it came to light that some proponents of the Millionaires Tax who had signed in PRO for the Senate hearing were fraudulently signed in CON for the House hearing. So we dug deeper.
We found more than 37,000 duplicated “Con” signatures on the legislative hearing lists, along with many others who were signed “Con” without their knowledge or consent.
We’re calling on Chief House Clerk Dean and the Attorney General Brown to launch an investigation.
The fraudulent sign-ins include Senator Victoria Hunt (LD-5), who is a sponsor of the Millionaires Tax, Former Congressman Derek Kilmer, SEIU 775 Secretary Treasurer Adam Glickman, and WEA President Larry Delaney.
Other names were signed more than 100 times, often in rapid succession. While some low-count duplicates might be common names (“John Smith”, for example) the frequency and high number of duplicates – some 50 or even 100 times – is extremely serious.
Opponents of the Millionaires Tax have been using “Con” sign-ins as a major talking point, even though multiple polls have shown that more than 60% of WA voters support the tax. The fraudulent sign-ins call into question just how broad the opposition to this tax actually is, who is behind the massive list padding, and why.
Read more about the suspicious signatures and hear from Senator Victoria Hunt and others who were fraudulently signed “Con” in our latest press release and today’s Seattle Times article.
Thank you for being a part of this fight for tax equity in Washington – and if you haven’t signed in PRO for the Tuesday morning Millionaires Tax House hearing, the sign in deadline is 7AM Tuesday, Feb 24 (that’s tomorrow)! Add your name now.

The federal administration has established a goal of conducting the largest mass detention and deportation effort in U.S. history. This effort has already resulted in a significant increase of enforcement actions forcing family separation and uprooting people from their homes and communities. One unstated hope behind these efforts, however, is that they want people like us to quit.
But that is not going to happen. It’s not going to happen because we are in partnerships in Washington State and across the country, ensuring our communities have the information they need and that our high-quality legal services are accessible to them. Together, we will continue to fight on. Our legal team is making a difference, ensuring our community members are supported through their removal defense proceedings and released from immigration custody. Our impact litigation team continues to challenge denial of bonds, including through a historic number of habeas petitions filed to challenge unlawful detentions. And our community outreach efforts have tripled over the past year, from reaching 7,400 people in 2024 to over 25,400 people in 2025.
NWIRP has defended and advanced immigrant rights for over 42 years and counting because of people like you who are stepping up – even when it’s hard. During these difficult times, I am so grateful for your dedication to our communities. We cannot do this work without you and without our communities of support.

Court Finds Trump Administration’s Third-Country Removal Policy is Unlawful, Vacates the Policy
Alongside our partners at Human Rights First (HRF) and the National Immigration Litigation Alliance (NILA), we welcome yesterday’s decision from the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, declaring unlawful and setting aside the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) third country removal policy. DHS has relied on the policy to send noncitizens under final orders of removal to third countries—countries to which they were not ordered removed—without notice or opportunity to seek protection from persecution and torture. The decision granted partial summary judgment in D.V.D. v. DHS, a case in which NWIRP and our partners NILA and HRF represent a nationwide class of individuals with certain final removal orders.
In issuing his order, Judge Murphy stated, “The Department of Homeland Security has adopted a policy whereby it may take people and drop them off in parts unknown—in so-called ‘third countries’—and, ‘as long as the Department doesn’t already know that there’s someone standing there waiting to shoot… that’s fine.’ It is not fine, nor is it legal.”
The Court’s decision confirms that the law requires the agency to comply with basic notions of decency, ensuring that the United States does not deport people to countries where they are likely to be persecuted or tortured. The agency is not entitled to use third country removals as a weapon of intimidation and terror targeting immigrant communities.
The district court stayed its decision for fifteen days to allow the government to seek a stay from the First Circuit pending appeal.
Celebrating 100 Years of Black History Month
This year marks the 100 year anniversary of Black History Month! While the month of February wasn’t recognized as Black History Month by the United States government until 1976, the Black community began the important work of celebrating and acknowledging their impact in this country 100 years ago in 1926. Black History Month is an opportunity to reflect on the contributions of Black immigrants in the United States; it is also a reminder of the work that must continue to be done to fight back against anti-Black policies which harm fellow community members, including many in NWIRP’s client communities. We encourage you to support the leadership and work of organizations like African Communities Together, Black Alliance for Just Immigration, Haitian Bridge Alliance, Lavender Rights Project, Law For Black Lives, Mother Africa, and UndocuBlack Network.

Taking Action in Olympia
Over the past several weeks, NWIRP has stood alongside our partners in Olympia for powerful days of advocacy and community leadership. Together, we’re raising our voices, building power, and advocating for policies that strengthen our communities across Washington State.
We are thankful to our legislators for their partnership and ongoing support of the Washington Migrant Asylum Seeker Support (WA MASS) Program and the VOCA State Plan, and that funding is sustained for the Legal Aid for Low-Income Immigrants Program and the New Americans Program in their proposed supplemental operating budgets.
While we are grateful for these commitments from legislators in support of our communities, we need your help to protect the future of immigrant health care in Washington State. The Apple Health Expansion (AHE) provides vital healthcare coverage to thousands of immigrants with low income across Washington State. However, cuts and a program restructure are currently being considered which could put many community members at risk. Please take a moment to send a message to legislators in Senate Ways & Means and House Appropriations, urging them to fully fund healthcare for all Washingtonians. Sign on today for this joint organizational letter in support of Apple Health Expansion.

Celebrating Social Work Month
Did you know that March is Social Work Month? The theme for the 2026 Social Work Month is “Social Workers: Uplift. Defend. Transform.” Social workers provide essential support to children, adults, and families by connecting them to critical resources and services to ensure their safety, stability, and well-being.
NWIRP’s Social Services Unit, established in 2019, provides one-on-one support to our clients to help them access needed resources and services in their local community. As an integral part of NWIRP’s interdisciplinary legal team, the Social Services Unit works alongside the legal staff to provide holistic services to NWIRP clients while they navigate their legal immigration case.
Today, we are excited to celebrate the commitment and hard work of the NWIRP team: three full-time Social Services staff members and four social work practicum students from local universities. We extend our deepest appreciation to them for their work, which helps uplift, defend, and transform the lives of NWIRP’s client communities every day.
We also extend our gratitude to social workers across the country for their dedication to empowering children, adults, and families and advancing social justice, particularly in these difficult times.

The Yakima Herald says:
As devastating as [cutting Medicaid] would be for individuals, it also imperils critical basic funding for hospitals and nursing homes around the state.
“Hospitals will close in Washington state, in rural parts of our state and urban parts of our state,” Ferguson warned last month. “Take that to the bank. That’s going to happen. Nursing homes in our state will close.”
Newhouse is sticking to his story, though, falsely claiming that the Medicaid system is rife with fraud and waste, and that this bill merely cleans up the books and keeps benefits flowing for legitimate recipients.
But Newhouse is no fool. He chose his words carefully before he voted.
He may have promised not to directly cut Medicaid, but he knew full well that’s exactly what H.R. 1 would ultimately mean. Now he’s coldly trying to justify turning his back on the harm this heartless legislation will cause the 4th District.
That’s not just disappointing or dismaying. It’s disgraceful.
Rep. Newhouse can change his vote when this bill comes up again. We know that personal stories and experiences can powerfully persuade members of Congress. Can you share your reasons for opposing Medicaid cuts?
Thank you for all you do!
Sincerely,
Emilio Meraz-Rodriguez

The Washington Health Trust is back in the Senate
The 2025 legislative session has started, and it’s time to contact our elected officials! Once again, Senator Bob Hasegawa from Legislative District 11 has introduced the Washington Health Trust (WHT). We’re incredibly grateful for Senator Hasegawa’s advocacy on this critical issue, and now, it’s time for us to spring into action. We need co-sponsors to the bill ASAP. The deadline for co-sponsors is 5 PM today, so time is of the essence. See the Actions below.
We’re Spreading the Word!

Whole Washington volunteers, Board members, and our Executive Director were in Olympia on opening day, dropping off literature and making contact with office staff. It’s a bustling time in the capitol and a great opportunity for us to create some heat.
As Jim noted, we’re “taking our bill to our legislators before they’re even sworn in.” Thank you to all for your time, passion, and advocacy!
What are the chances for the WHT this year?
We’ve been advised Senate Bill 5233 will not receive a hearing this session. It’s our responsibility and obligation to not go silent. Our healthcare is much too important.
A hearing on comprehensive universal healthcare is more pressing than ever. Washington State has a massive budget shortfall (10 to 12 billion in the coming four years). Opportunites to save money need to be reviewed, and the WHT is just such an opportunity.
Both the Universal Health Care Commission Report and the 2021 Gerald Friedman analysis, show significant savings (anywhere from 738 million to 12 billion, depending on the model) while providing expanded benefits like vision, dental, and mental health services. We’d feel better and we’d save money. It’d be negligent to ignore a close review of the bill at this time.
What actions do we take right now?
There’s plenty we can do to press the WHT forward. Right now, these are the two big ones.
- Make Online Comments in support of the bill. Click on the top green button on the right that says Send a comment on this bill to your legislators. You’ll click the Support button and add your personal comments. Remember to send to your Senator plus both House Representative
- Contact your elected officials. This is the most vital action you can do today! Call or write them and let them know you support this Universal Healthcare bill. Ask your Senator to co-sponsor SB 5233 as soon as possible. Ask your Representatives to introduce a companion bill. Need help finding contact info? Use the District Finder here.
Reach out to Republicans and Independents too. Universal Healthcare is good for all of us!
Please reply back to this email if you make contact or leave a message. We’d love to hear what actions you’re taking and what you’re hearing from their offices.
Want to know more about the new WHT?
Join us tomorrow for the Virtual Town Hall! We’ll cover what’s different, share our stories, and plan together how to make the most of this moment!
Thank you so much for anything and everything you put in today to make some noise and increase the awareness for this legislation. This is not Whole Washington’s bill. It’s Washington’s bill. We can make our lives better. We just have to demand it.
In passionate and hopeful solidarity,
Whole Washington

Before the month ends, we’re asking: will you help fight back against hate, bullying, and discrimination against our students by becoming a monthly supporter of No Hate in WA State? Being able to rely on your support helps us plan now so we can win in November.
Defeating these harmful ballot measures will require sustained, committed effort. It will require months of organizing, coalition-building, voter outreach, and rapid response to misinformation.
Why?
Because ballot measures IL26-001 and IL26-638 are being bankrolled by Republican megadonor Brian Heywood in a long-term effort to force his personal, conservative ideology on our communities and turn our schools into political battlegrounds. To win, we must build our own long-term campaign.
That means:
• Hiring and training organizers early
• Sustaining statewide outreach through November
• Planning paid communications to reach undecided voters
• Responding quickly as political attacks escalate
Monthly supporters will be the backbone of that work. A recurring gift of $10 or $25 a month gives us the stability to plan ahead, invest strategically, and stay competitive against a well-funded opponent.
We know Washingtonians are sick of political gamesmanship, especially at the expense of our students and their well-being. We know they deserve schools that are safe, inclusive, and focused on growing and learning. Together, we can make that reality.
With gratitude,
No Hate in WA State

Republican megadonor and hedge-fund founder Brian Heywood’s efforts to force his conservative ideology on Washingtonians are now getting national attention:

In 2022, Heywood created a super PAC, Let’s Go Washington, to advance his personal agenda. Since then, he has spent an eight-figure sum trying to force 20 conservative policy proposals onto our ballots.
Heywood’s conservative agenda has included rolling back police oversight laws, repealing the capital gains tax, and withdrawing our state from the National Popular Vote compact, an agreement among states to award their electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote.
Measure IL26-001 would repeal parts of the Safety Act, forcing schools to out LGBTQ+ students to unsupportive families, removing protections for abused children, and restricting access to help for students facing violence, sexual abuse, bullying, or depression.
Measure IL26-638 would place a blanket statewide ban on any trans girl in sports, and could force hundreds of thousands of girls into invasive, unnecessary genital exams just to participate in school sports teams.
Washingtonians respect and care for each other. We may not always agree, but we work together to protect our children from hate, bullying, and harassment.
And we are done with nonsense culture wars strategically designed to scapegoat our most vulnerable, while doing nothing to actually make life better for any of us.
Defeating these ballot measures will require us to stand up and fight back. Brian Heywood himself has said, “I can afford to do this for a long time.” It will take focused organizing, sustained outreach, and enough resources to fund a statewide campaign to defeat these harmful measures.
With gratitude,
No Hate HQ

One Million Rising Registrants,
After an incredible summer of organizing together and building our capacity to fight authoritarianism into the future, join us for our final One Million Rising call this Wednesday, October 8, at 8pm ET/5pm PT.
Many of you have been taking part in our Signs of Solidarity, Ground Avelo, and other One Million Rising campaigns. Come hear more about how they’ve been going, how you can stay plugged in, and how they’ve evolved as you’ve been spreading strategic non-cooperation across the country.
The highlight of this call will be our launch of the Courage Collectives.
For One Million Rising, we talked about how the best way to fight authoritarianism isn’t by aiming at the top, but through addressing the pillars upholding the regime. Those pillars can be houses of faith, educational institutions, military branches, and any number of other organizations, societies, or groupings of people that hold community power. But we didn’t talk about how to organize to address these pillars.
Unlike your typical organizing model, pillars-based organizing may not be local. As an example, alumni of a university that is upholding the agenda of an authoritarian administration may be located across the country. Come learn how we’ll be organizing pillars-based communities with our Courage Collectives. **Bonus: We’ll also be giving a training on what power mapping is and how to connect it to your pillars-based organizing work.
After the October 8 call, One Million Rising will wind down as a freestanding program, and the infrastructure and campaigns will fold back into the No Kings movement, the new Courage Collectives, and other organizing paths we’ll share on the call. Join us this Wednesday to learn more.
Thank you for growing this movement with us,
The One Million Rising Team
P.S. If you haven’t registered for your local October 18 No Kings Day event yet, find an event near you on our event map. Indivisible Rural Program [2021 WORKING DOC]

Hello Indivisible Red & Rural Caucus,
As February comes to a close, we celebrate Black history and its deep roots in rural communities, from farming and land stewardship to labor organizing, mutual aid, faith leadership, and civic engagement. These often-overlooked stories show how Black people have shaped rural life and democracy for generations and remind us of the power of organized communities, power we will carry into our work together in 2026.
First Red and Rural Caucus Call of 2026
We didn’t get a chance to connect in February, but we’re looking forward to seeing everyone next month!
Our next Red and Rural Caucus call will be a little different. We’re meeting on Saturday, March 7 at 2:00 PM ET, a change from our usual schedule to avoid conflicting with all the No Kings 3 trainings happening during the week.
The session will be facilitated by our Campaigns Director, Gracey, a fresh face to guide our conversation on the plan for 2026, and Tim, our Mobilization Director, who will explore how members can plug into No Kings while building power in red and rural communities.
Register below to receive reminders. We have many exciting plans for 2026 and can’t wait to see you there!
NO KINGS 3
We’re gearing up for the next round of No Kings protests, and we’d love to hear from you. Let us know whether you’re planning to host a No Kings event in your community, and what kind of support you’d need to make it a success. Whether you’re just starting to think about it or already organizing, we’re here to support you.
Take Action Now
Republicans are once again pushing for a series of voter suppression bills—all variations of their infamous “SAVE Act”, which would create unnecessary obstacles for millions of eligible Americans trying to register to vote.
Congress is negotiating new funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) at a moment when ICE and CBP are inflicting real harm on communities. This resource breaks down what we’re demanding and how you can take action.
In Solidarity,
The Indivisible Red and Rural Caucus Team

Join Our Call December 3rd 5pm PST!
Dear Rural Indivisibles,
I’m writing with a quick reminder and warm invitation to join us for this month’s Rural Caucus Call. As we close out the year, we’re gathering to reflect on what our local groups have accomplished, connect those wins to our broader national priorities, and share an early look at what’s ahead for the caucus in 2026.
This call is also a space to ground ourselves before the year ends — to celebrate, listen, and prepare for the work and care we’ll need moving forward.
You’ll leave with a clear picture of the incredible work rural groups have led this year, how those efforts strengthen our national strategy, and what our early plans are for the caucus in 2026 — including ways you can plug in.
Our hope is that you leave feeling an even stronger sense of ownership in the Rural Caucus. We’ll uplift stories directly from local groups and include a listening segment with a short survey so your voice shapes where we go next.
Before the holidays begin, we want you to take something for yourself — so we’ll be inviting everyone to make a small self-care plan and commit to returning together in January, ready and renewed.
We truly hope you’ll join us for this closing conversation of 2025. Your presence continues to shape this caucus and the possibilities we’re building across red & rural communities.
Looking forward to being in community with each of you.
Warmly,
– The Indivisible Red and Rural Caucus Team

Running this year has a secret advantage
From the desk of Bibek, Senior Digital Strategist
New year, new campaign. And yes, I know, we just did this. But hear me out.
We’re now in the Year of the Fire Horse, a once-in-60-years event defined by radical change and political upheaval. As a metal Goat, I’m wired to be a dreamer and an optimist, so naturally, I’m choosing to see this as a sign. And it’s not lost on me that it’s landing on a midterm year.
But here’s the thing about upheaval: it cuts both ways. The SAVE Act — still far from a 60-vote majority in the Senate, yet also an uncomfortable step closer to becoming law — won’t be the last assault on our democracy. The GOP isn’t stopping. So we do what LeMario Brown did this week in the Georgia State Senate special election. He took the fight straight into a safe red seat. He didn’t win, but his campaign brought us that much closer to closing the gap. That is how we build toward wins all the way down the ballot, in every district, every cycle, every year.
It’s all hands on deck. The Fire Horse doesn’t wait for perfect conditions. Neither should you.
Not running yourself? You can still get in the game: apply to Fund the Win, our 6-week cohort to help campaign staffers raise more money and build real fundraising confidence.
What’s your sign, and how does it influence how you run?
Hit reply. 🐎🔥

Over the weekend, President Trump announced that the U.S. was going to war with Iran.
Let us be clear: President Trump’s decision to launch a bombing campaign against a country of nearly 100 million people without bothering to ask Congress is a clear constitutional violation. He is putting servicemembers and civilians in unacceptable danger.
The Constitution gives war authority power to Congress, and Congress alone. It is what makes us a democracy, and ensures that our leaders fully consider the many costs of war – including the harm to human lives and rights, and any effects on global peace and stability – before sending troops into danger.
If President Trump wants to send U.S. servicemembers into conflict, he must make his case to the American people and their representatives in Congress. The commander in chief must follow the chain of command, and that begins with We the People.
Thank you,
The ACLU Team

Did you hear President Trump’s State of the Union address last night?
President Trump attacked and demonized our immigrant neighbors – and even had the audacity to demand Congress write a new blank check for ice and Border Patrol’s violent and lawless operations.
Fortunately, the people are holding ice and Border Patrol accountable – and we have to keep holding the line.
Thanks to our collective pressure, Congress has blocked legislation that would’ve continued funneling no-strings-attached money into these agencies. But President Trump is increasing pressure on lawmakers to fund these operations without any reform or accountability to protect our neighbors and us.
We’ve seen the impacts of this lawlessness: Citizens shot in the streets. Peaceful protesters pepper-sprayed. Houses raided without warrants. Families arrested and children taken from their homes. Abuse and racial profiling levied at anyone federal agents imagine to be an immigrant. Meanwhile, those in detention suffer inhumane conditions – with eight people already dying in ice custody just this year.
It’s been nothing short of horrifying. Families are living in fear of these out-of-control agencies, and it’s on Congress to protect us all.
Our legislators have listened to the massive public outcry and have so far refused to fund ice and Border Patrol without significant reform, but they must hold strong in the face of pressure from the executive branch and anti-immigrant members of Congress.
With thanks for all you do,
The ACLU Team

We just got word: A generous group of donors is bringing back the 8X match, but there’s a catch – it ends in 5 days!
This means every dollar you give through March 5 will go eight times further to train and support Democratic women who are ready to lead.
Early money means we can do more in 2026. Can you donate right now to help us take advantage of this rare 8X match?
DONATE ANOTHER AMOUNT
Trump and his allies are doing everything they can to silence our voices and roll back decades of progress, but Emerge women are stepping up to stop them.
We’re training candidates who will fight for reproductive freedom, protect our democracy, and lead at every level of government. But we need your help to reach our June goal and power this work forward.
Please chip in before the deadline and help us unlock every dollar of the 8X match!
Thank you for being in this fight with us,

Friends —
Across the country, momentum is building.
Women continue to step forward —some for the very first time, others already on the path to the ballot—and Emerge is helping make it possible.
Beyond Emerge’s Signature Training and Boot Camps, which boast a more than 70% candidate win rate, we offer so much more. For many women who know they want to step into leadership but may not be ready to take the plunge into elected office, Emerge steps in to guide women on their path. In the past year alone, we’ve reached thousands of women nationwide and coached more than 600 women through our programs, partnerships, and national initiatives like Women Talk Politics Day.
From there, that interest turns into action. Through Emerge Rising, women are moving from civic engagement to leadership—serving on boards and commissions and beginning to chart a path toward running for office.
At the same time, we’re building leadership before campaigns even begin. In Leaders Emerge, participants are defining their voice, values, and vision—laying the groundwork for the leaders they will become.
And for some, that path is already leading to the ballot. Through our Gavel In program, Emerge is training women to run for judicial seats—125 of whom are now sitting on benches across the country.
This work is also intentionally expanding access. We trained in Mississippi and North Carolina through nonpartisan programs, hundreds ofwomen through Divine Nine partnerships, and women nationwide across the State of the People Power Tour—reaching communities that have too often been left out of the political process.
This is what building power actually looks like—step by step, program by program, woman by woman.
And we’re just getting started.
In 2026, Emerge will expand this work further—training more women, launching new programs such as our School Board initiative, and continuing to invest in the New American Majority across the country.
If we’re going to meet this moment, we need to scale this work.
Will you contribute today to help us train the next generation of women leaders?
Because leadership doesn’t start on Election Day, it starts right now—with women deciding to step forward.
— A’shanti

Dear MoveOn member,
This weekend, Trump launched military strikes in Iran without congressional authorization.
If Congress doesn’t act immediately, this unauthorized military operation could spiral into a full-scale war. Whether Congress authorizes it or not, most Americans don’t support the U.S. going into yet another costly war.
Congress must act NOW.
At 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT TONIGHT, MoveOn, 50501, and Win Without War are hosting an emergency movement call to break down what’s happening in Iran and the Middle East, what it means, and how we can apply immediate, collective pressure to stop this war.
On this call, you’ll get …
- clear context on what’s unfolding
- the stakes for our communities and the world, and
- a concrete plan for our collective action.
Our primary demand: Congress must pass a bill to rein in Trump NOW.
This is a moment for movement-wide action. Join the call to get context, as well as concrete next steps in the weeks to come.
Thanks for all you do.

Dear MoveOn member,
This is Cheryl Zando, MoveOn’s chief operating officer. I don’t usually write to you directly, but right now I need to.
Here’s why: With just two days left in February, MoveOn is 288 recurring donors short of our monthly goal. And I want to tell you exactly why that matters.
This is the moment when the resources to build and sustain the pro-democracy movement are most critical. We’re organizing No Kings Day on March 28, fighting to push ICE out of our communities, and racing to stop Trump from disenfranchising millions to steal the 2026 midterms by passing the SAVE Act. We need to fire on all cylinders—and we can’t do it without sustained financial support.
Will you start a monthly gift of $5 to MoveOn today to help us meet this extraordinary moment?
No, I’m sorry, I can’t make a monthly donation.
Here’s why ongoing recurring donations are so critical right now.
Decades of research on nonviolent resistance movements around the world show that no authoritarian government has ever withstood a challenge when 3.5% of its population sustains organized resistance.1 In the United States, 3.5% means 12 million Americans.
We’re already closer than most people realize. Last October, nearly 7 million Americans—2% of the U.S. population—took to the streets for No Kings Day, the largest day of protest in modern American history. We are more than halfway to 12 million.
The next step is No Kings Day 3 on March 28. MoveOn, hundreds of partner organizations, and thousands of trained volunteer hosts are organizing mobilizations in cities and towns across all 50 states. The flagship event will be in the Twin Cities—where federal agents killed Renee Good and Alex Pretti, and where Minnesotans are rising up in resistance.
This is how movements are built. Brick by brick, action by action, until we reach the threshold that history shows can stop even the most entrenched authoritarian power.
But building to 12 million doesn’t happen on its own. It takes training thousands of local organizers. Providing safety and de-escalation support to every event host. Building and maintaining the technology infrastructure to pull off an enormous nationwide day of action. Coordinating across all 50 states. And maintaining the rapid-response capacity to fight on multiple fronts at once—because Trump isn’t slowing down, and neither can we.
This is the moment. Will you start a monthly gift of $5 to MoveOn today to help us build to 12 million, push ICE out of our communities, and stop Trump from stealing the midterms?
No, I’m sorry, I can’t make a monthly donation.
Right now, we’re fighting on three critical fronts simultaneously:
Building the resistance to 12 million. No Kings Day 3 on March 28 is our next major mobilization. The MoveOn team is one of the core No Kings organizations coordinating it all—working one-on-one with volunteer hosts, running trainings and office hours, building and maintaining the technology infrastructure to pull off so many events on one day, and getting the word out to millions of people, the media, and influencers. This work is resource-intensive. It’s also what has kept millions of Americans safe in the streets.
Stopping ICE from terrorizing our communities. Federal agents have killed our neighbors—Renee Good and Alex Pretti among them. They’re showing up in schools, churches, and workplaces. And over the next couple of weeks, Congress will be voting on whether or not to give even more money to fuel ICE’s violence.2 MoveOn is organizing to push ICE out of our communities—and that fight requires sustained organizing capacity, not just one-time action.
Stopping Trump from disenfranchising millions of voters to steal the 2026 midterms. House Republicans just passed the SAVE Act—the most extreme voter suppression bill in modern history.3 It would block 8 in 10 married women from voting unless they obtain a new birth certificate, eliminate online voter registration in 42 states, and require documents that 21 million Americans simply don’t have.4 This bill isn’t about election security. It’s about election theft. The Senate could vote on it as early as next month—and we have a real shot at stopping it, but only if we have the resources to run targeted campaigns in key states and flood senators with constituent pressure right now.
Here’s why a monthly gift matters more than a one-time donation.
A recurring gift—even $5 or $10 a month—pooled with many others is what allows MoveOn to plan ahead, sustain campaigns from start to finish, and keep organizers in the field instead of scrambling from crisis to crisis. One-time donations help us respond. Monthly donations help us win.
MoveOn runs on grassroots funding. We don’t take corporate money. We’re not beholden to wealthy donors. That independence is what keeps us accountable to you—and it’s what makes us effective. But it also means we depend on members like you to keep the lights on and the movement moving.
We are 288 monthly donors short. If you’re able to give right now, will you start a monthly gift of $5 to MoveOn today?
No, I’m sorry, I can’t make a monthly donation.
I know not everyone can give, and that’s OK. But if you can chip in monthly, your gift will directly fund the organizing that gets us to 12 million, keeps ICE out of our neighborhoods, and stops Trump from rigging the elections he can’t win fairly.
History shows that when enough people stand together—sustained, organized, nonviolent—they win. We have a real shot at being that movement. But we need to fund it. 2026 can be the year we turn the corner—but only if we build the movement now.
From the bottom of my heart, thanks for all you do—especially in this extraordinary moment.
–Cheryl Zando, Chief Operating Officer, MoveOn
P.S. I don’t write to you often. But I believe this is a genuine turning point—and that what we do right now will determine whether we stop Trump’s tyranny and build a country where everyone can thrive. If you can start a monthly gift of $5 today, it will make a real difference. Thank you.
No, I’m sorry, I can’t make a monthly donation.

March For Our Lives Virtual Events
This month, we honored the eight year anniversary of the life-changing shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
Eight years after the shooting, we still carry the names, the faces, and the promise we made to each other that day: we would do everything in our power to stop this from happening again.
We’re not just remembering. We’re organizing, training, and mobilizing the next generation of leaders who will fight for gun violence prevention.
Since Parkland we’ve won concrete victories: a federal Office of Gun Violence Prevention, state laws that have saved lives, and thousands of young people mobilized to hold officials accountable.
But gun violence still takes far too many lives every year, and the powerful gun lobby keeps blocking the change we desperately need.
Thank you for believing in this work,

Good news out of Virginia:
Virginia’s state legislature recently passed a sweeping package of gun safety bills that will help keep people safe!
Lawmakers in Virginia passed a package of five gun safety bills, moving forward legislation that would tighten regulations and hold the gun industry accountable.
This is what progress looks like — and it’s confirmation that our hard work is paying off.
We’re doing everything we can to get more young people involved in the fight to end gun violence and push for gun safety legislation at the state and federal levels.

No Kings No Billionaires: Together We Stand ›
All times PST

In 2026, our movements have already delivered powerful blows to the Trump administration’s billionaire agenda, and we’re in the best position yet to stop their death march and weaken their power. Millions of white people are defecting and rising up– it’s our role to be ready to move them away from authoritarianism and into movements of resistance.
To be ready to accomplish all of this, next week on Wednesday, March 4 at 8 pm ET, we’re launching our newest training program: Block by Block Training and Action Series, to equip SURJ members to organize our communities to get into formation to do our part.
Block by Block is our national campaign for 2026 to 1) mobilize members into mass actions like marches and local ICE resistance, 2) elect working-class champions and block MAGA candidates, and 3) grow our power by bringing more and more people into our movement.
In this training, you’ll learn everything you need to implement this strategy. We’ll train on recruitment and building a local movement, strategic noncooperation, building electoral power, and more. We’ll provide all the structure, toolkits, and guidance you need to plug into our national program and make a real difference– block by block.
The MAGA agenda wants to use this year to elect more of their people to rig elections, destroy what’s left of our social safety net, deport hundreds of thousands more of our neighbors, and ensure that Wall Street and Silicon Valley overlords have free rein to take advantage of us all.
Solidarity is rising– and if we keep it up, we’ll not only stop their strategy, we’ll have a mass movement of people who are fighting for not a return to the status quo, but an entirely new vision for this country.
Let’s use the momentum we’ve built to take a big, bold, beautiful shot together– can you join us?

One of the most common questions we get at SURJ is: how do I talk to other white people about racism? The truth is, there is no magic set of words to learn– it takes practice. Whether it’s at your family dinner table or your neighbors down the street, our work to break the racist, anti-immigrant lies the billionaire agenda deployed towards white communities has never been more important.
Can you join us next Tuesday, February 17th at 6 pm ET for the first training and phonebank in our series, “Talk to Our Neighbors, Crack ICE”? We’ll be training you to talk to white working-class voters in the key congressional districts that will determine control of the House in the 2026 midterm elections. Using a deep listening method where you’ll engage around shared values, we’ll talk to people about their feelings on Trump’s immigration policies and deployment of ICE, and then organize them towards seeing what they stand to gain in choosing solidarity over MAGA’s racism.
Support for ICE is at an all-time low. And we know that working-class people have so much shared interest in rejecting racism and defunding ICE. As grocery prices skyrocket and basic healthcare services send families into debt, all of us– white people included– will be better off in a country where our government funds communities and not ICE terror.
Trump’s aggressive and violent deployment of ICE is causing many white working-class communities to re-evaluate their views and beliefs on immigration. Right now, we have a chance to turn towards these folks, bring them into a vision of shared interest, and get practice being in deep conversation with other white people about racism and immigration.
Join us on Tuesday to start laying the groundwork to defeat MAGA in the midterms, push the mainstream Democratic Party to take a bold stance on ICE, and skill up. If you can’t make it next week, there are many other dates and you can join at any time.
In solidarity,
SURJ

Earlier this month at a rally, a frustrated constituent called out Rep. Stephen Lynch for not doing enough to fight back against Trump’s abuses of power and protect our democracy.
Instead of hearing them out, his response was to dismiss their comment completely, telling the very people he’s supposed to serve that what he does is his decision to make, and if they don’t like it, they can run for Congress themselves. After two decades in office, this is how he acts.
This is the problem with Democrats, Kendall.
There’s a sense of entitlement that’s taken root. A belief that once the election is won and you’re “safe” in your seat, listening to your constituents is optional. That instead of demanding better, voters should fall in line with the options they’ve been given.
That’s not how democracy works, and it’s certainly not how you win elections.
When our leaders act like they own their seats instead of working everyday to earn them, people start to lose faith in our party and our democracy — and justifiably so.
But we aren’t going to settle for that. We won’t be cornered into supporting candidates that don’t want to hear from us, and won’t prioritize the issues that matter to us most.
Like Lynch said: if you want a say, run for Congress. We’ll gladly take him up on that offer.
Leaders We Deserve is backing Patrick Roath, a bold young leader who has consistently stepped up to serve his community when it matters most, and delivered real results for the people of Massachusetts. He’s fought to protect voting rights, asylum seekers, and has stood up for working families time and time again.
Patrick’s priorities won’t be firing back at his own constituents or taking a lukewarm approach to Trump’s attacks on our freedom. They’ll be to make affordable housing a reality, address the high costs of childcare, and to put forth an agenda that’s driven by working people and the issues that they face.
And Patrick’s campaign is powered entirely by grassroots supporters. No corporate cash, and no billionaire donors. That means he’s counting on people like you to help him compete against a 20+ year incumbent armed with establishment support and deep-pocketed donors.
Thank you for being a part of this movement with us.
With gratitude,
David Hogg

In just one week, Texas and North Carolina voters will head to the polls for the primaries — and it will be the most important day in Leaders We Deserve’s history.
There’s not a single other organization out there investing more to elect young progressive candidates than we are right now. We built this movement to prove that young progressives have what it takes to lead with integrity, govern effectively, and win tough races — and that we’re not waiting our turn to do it.
Next week, we get to show that through two critical races.
In North Carolina’s 4th District, Nida Allam is challenging a corporate PAC-backed incumbent who’s forgotten who she represents. Nida will bring her fearless leadership to fight for a government that puts working people first, and deliver for North Carolinians on lowering health care costs, raising wages and standing up for workers’ rights.
And then there’s Christian Menefee in Texas’ 18th Congressional District, a proven fighter with a track record of showing up for his community and holding power to account. He was just sworn in to Congress through a special election a month ago, and will have to defend his seat next week.
These are leaders who understand what’s at stake for our democracy, and are ready to put up a fight. They’re not interested in climbing the ladder, they’re interested in changing our party and shifting power back into the hands of working people.
This moment is huge, and we can’t afford to waste it. We can sweep these critical races, and do so without a dime of corporate PAC money, but I need your help to get us there.
I’m about to be back on the road with our candidates, meeting volunteers, knocking doors, and doing everything possible to make sure we win on March 3rd. And I’ll keep you posted from the ground because you’re a part of this team too, Kendall.
Let’s make history and prove that young progressives can change the game.
Thank you,
David Hogg

The government shutdown is underway with seemingly no end in sight.

But the American people are standing strong. They’re ready for change. And we’re ready to help.Visit our website to learn how you can get involved.
Policy: Housing is
a Human Right
In 2024, a record-breaking number of people experienced homelessness. In 2023, nearly 70% of Americans reported being ‘very concerned’ about the cost of housing. The American people care about this crisis and want it addressed.
A nation cannot call itself just while millions sleep on the streets. The housing crisis is not an accident—it is the result of policy choices that put profit over people. Skyrocketing rents, unchecked speculation, and a system that treats shelter as a commodity instead of a necessity have left too many without a place to call home.
The solution is clear: Guarantee housing as a human right. Invest in affordable housing, strengthen tenant protections, and curb corporate landlords who hoard empty units while families struggle. No one should be homeless in a country of abundance.
Action must follow principle. Demand rent control, public housing investment, and policies that prioritize people over profit. Support leaders who fight for fair housing, not those who serve developers.
This is not charity—it is justice. A stable home is the foundation of health, education, and opportunity. When people are housed, communities thrive, crime decreases, and economies grow. The right to shelter is as fundamental as the right to food or clean water.
A roof over one’s head should not be a privilege—it should be a guarantee. End the housing crisis. Secure the right to a home for all.

“Civic Power” Report: Organizing Is How We Win Elections and Pass Bold Policies
