Tri-City Democrats

Tri-City Democrats – Friday, November 14, 6:00 PM
Greetings fellow Democrats!
It’s getting cold out, so we’re going to move indoors for our winter gatherings. This month we’ll meet at the round Table Pizza on Court Street in Pasco. November 14 at 6pm Pacific. Come gather with like-minded folks and share some fellowship, food and beverages. As is our normal practice, Tri-City Democrats will order several pizzas to share. We’ll have the donation box available for those who care to financially support the group. Some of our generous members are likely to purchase pitchers of beer to share. If you want the salad bar or soft drinks, you are on your own for those items.
At this writing, we do not have a planned program, but we will have ‘Hate Has no Home Here’ signs available. We are also in the process of proposing some minor alterations to our bylaws, which we may discuss briefly and possibly vote on.

Today we…
Support new arrivals through education, relationships and community so they can thrive in their new home.
In the future, we will…
Create a community of open hearts, helping hands and supportive systems where strangers become friends and we all thrive.
At B5, we’re celebrating Thanksgiving in the month of November. There’s a tree on the wall, and everyone is invited to add leaves to it. While leaves are dropping from trees outside, we’re adding leaves with messages of gratitude to our tree, and on the 25th we had an early Thanksgiving with families from the B5 community, introducing them to the Thanksgiving basics, like mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie. We did the basics; they added what they could. The food tables overflowed as we shared a meal in celebration and gratitude.

All this is made possible because of you, and others like you, who have given generously to our work. Your contributions make this work possible. You help make the Tri-Cities a more welcoming place.
People often ask how our B5 families are doing in these uncertain times. Are they afraid? That’s not a question that we ask, but a recent poll published in the New York Times (November 19, 2025) found that roughly 70 percent of immigrants, regardless of status, would make the choice to come to the U.S. again. The poll found that immigrants still feel safer here than in their home countries. And, “they believe their own future, and their children’s future, to be bright.”
That’s an encouraging poll, and one we see at work in our people. One mom with 3 kids affirmed that poll when she told me, “If I am poor in America, it is by choice. Here there is opportunity to work, and if I get more education it will be even better.” The work of B5 is to equip our students with the skills they need (language and literacy) to get jobs, improve their job situation, or pursue further education.

One of the students in our adult English program, a young mother from Afghanistan, exemplifies this opportunity. Shmala is going to move on from our program to CBC in January. She’s been learning English with us since she arrived in the Tri-Cities in October 2021, taking short breaks for the birth of two children. In January she will begin online classes so she can pursue her college education, a dream she’s had since she was a little girl.
Shmala was apologetic when she told us she will begin studying at CBC. When Shmala first arrived, the Tri-Cities felt like a dark place to her and her husband. They knew no one here, and they were grieving the loss of their country and all their livelihood. In the midst of that dark place, a time when she was cut off from the support of her own family in Afghanistan, “B5 became my family,” she said. She doesn’t want to leave the community, so she will continue at B5 as a childcare provider and a reading tutor for our elementary students. We will continue to walk alongside Shmala in her educational journey, and count on her input to help others.

This pause in refugee arrivals could feel like a threat, but we’re choosing to see it as an opportunity. Taking time to ask our students about their goals will help us learn how to improve or add to our program to better prepare our students for the workforce or for further education. We’re talking to students who recently arrived and to students who’ve lived here for over 20 years. Your support helps keep us focused on the opportunities before us. This Thanksgiving, we are especially thankful for you.
With Gratitude,

Theresa Roosendaal
Executive Director

FAQ from A Better Richland
Richland registered voters will vote this November to update the Richland City Council election process to be like the rest of Washington’s First-Class Cities, Pasco, and Kennewick.
Currently all seven members of the Richland council are elected “at-large.” They can live anywhere in the city. A vote to change the city charter would mean five council members would have to be elected from the districts where they live and two would still be elected “at-large”. Each of the five proposed districts would have approximately 12,000 residents. An interactive map on our website can show you in which district you would live.

The 2026 Washington state legislative session is less than two months away and soon we will have opportunities to advocate with our state legislators to champion bills and make important investments to protect and support WA’s immigrant and refugee communities.

This will be an opportunity to keep building on the skills we have learned in the previous monthly meetings, where we discussed building people power and sharing our stories. But we welcome everyone, even if you weren’t able to join us for last month’s meeting.
If you want to better understand how we can make change together at the state level, why you should join us at Immigrant and Refugee and Advocacy Day (IRAD) on January 22, 2026, and the different ways you can help advance our policy priorities, then we hope you can make it!
n solidarity,
The Policy & Advocacy Team at WAISN
[ENGLISH ABOVE]

Help Us Keep the Door Open for Every Future Leader
In moments like these, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. The pace and harm of national politics, the cruelty, chaos, and fear many communities feel, it can make it hard to know what to do.
But we can take action right now by supporting the WAIDF Scholarship Fund.
Your gift helps ensure cost is never the reason someone can’t say “yes” to the Washington Institute for a Democratic Future. Every dollar reduces tuition, offsets travel for fellows across the state, and helps our cohorts reflect the full diversity of Washington’s communities.
This season, we’re working to raise $10,000 by December 31 for the Class of 2026.
Together, we can meet this moment with determination, because every fellow we support is one more leader ready to defend democracy, strengthen communities, and build a more just future for Washington State
Give today to the WAIDF Scholarship Fund.

There’s a lot of talk about “centrism” in politics — but what is “the center” really about? Is it about splitting the difference between the far-right and far-left? Or is it about standing for things that are broadly popular and broadly beneficial?
Centrism can mean a lot of different things, but as Civic Action founder Nick Hanauer argues in The New Republic, the neoliberal centrism that has long dominated our politics is fundamentally about balancing the interests of the very wealthy with the interests of everyone else.
The neoliberal centrism of splitting differences is how you end up with a federal minimum wage stagnant at $7.25 for 15 years — it’s right in the center of the $0 that wealthy extremists want, and the $15/hour that’s overwhelmingly popular.
That’s not centrism, that’s defending the status quo.
But there’s also another kind of center — a majoritarian center that’s focused on centering the interests of the majority of people. It’s not about splitting differences — it’s about pursuing policies that are broadly popular and broadly beneficial.
That’s what true majoritarian centrism is about. It’s the neoliberal center that’s actually extreme.
Check out Nick’s piece, share it with friends & family, and let us know what you think.

I want to pose an important question:
IS GUN VIOLENCE PREVENTION WORTH $1 PER MONTH?
For a fraction of the cost of a single cup of coffee, you can help pass proven laws, fund community violence prevention, and defend progress that continues to save lives across Washington.
I’ll be honest – this only works if we pitch in as a collective. We have a robust volunteer and advocacy network across the country. If everyone pitched in $1, we will sustain this work and more.
When you give just $1 per month, you’re not funding us. You’re joining us.
You’re saying that you believe a safer future free from gun violence is possible– and that you believe it’s worth at least $1.
Become a $1 Monthly Member Now
Your dollar becomes progress. Your voice becomes power. And together, $1 turns into a movement.
With gratitude,

On Election Night, gun safety advocates overwhelmingly showcased their commitment to ending gun violence by powering our endorsed candidates to victories across Washington. With growing uncertainty on the federal level, it’s reassuring to know that Washingtonians are continuing to show up for their communities to elect gun violence prevention champions up and down the ballot.
The Alliance for Gun Responsibility would like to congratulate all of our endorsed candidates for waging campaigns that prioritized public safety. Our victories now create the opportunity for us to achieve meaningful change around the issues that unite us.
In Seattle, our supporters helped drive historic wins that elected gun violence prevention champions including: Erika Evans, Seattle City Attorney, Dionne Foster and Alexis Mercedes Rinck, Seattle City Council, and Girmay Zahilay, King County Executive.
We are excited to welcome and work with these newly emboldened leaders of the gun safety movement.
In Maine, gun safety advocates turned out in support of Question 2, which creates an Extreme Risk Protection Order law. Also known as Red Flag laws, this policy allows families to take control of their loved ones’ safety. We were honored to collaborate with our state partner organization, the Maine Gun Safety Coalition, to add Maine to the list of the over 20 states nationwide with Red Flag laws.
We’d once again like to thank the thousands of volunteers and advocates who made phone calls, sent text messages, and knocked on many, many doors. Our collective action continues to make meaningful strides and produce real results. Together, we will continue fighting for responsible gun and community violence intervention laws, and working with elected officials committed to ending preventable gun violence.
With gratitude,
Alliance for Gun Responsibility Team

Like most ten-year-old boys, mine loves superheroes and hates villains. (He also has a passion for engineering sewer systems, but that’s a story for another day.)
If you’ve ever spent time with kids, you know this: their moral compass is loud. They know what’s fair. And they definitely know what’s not.
So when I explained Washington’s tax code in kid-level terms, my son didn’t miss a beat:
“That’s not fair!”
And he’s right.
Even kids understand that it’s wrong for people with the most wealth to pay the least in state and local taxes, while working families shoulder the highest burden. What’s harder for kids to see is the ripple effect:
- Families, especially Black and brown families, pushed further from opportunity.
- Generational wealth kept out of reach.
- Communities left without the basics: child care, strong schools, accessible health care, and support for seniors and people with disabilities.
But here’s what my son did understand: We don’t have to accept this. We can fight back.
And right now, we need everyone who believes in fairness — kids, adults, communities across Washington — pushing for a tax code that actually works for the people who make this state run.
Because last session, the wealthiest in our state didn’t just oppose progressive revenue proposals, they tried to shut them down entirely. They even threatened ballot measures to undo any progress we made. And we can expect more of that.
It’s not just ten-year-olds who can see how when big corporations and the wealthy rig the system for themselves, it sets up an unfair system for all of us.
Our kids deserve better than a tax code built to protect the ultra-rich while starving the public systems the rest of us rely on.
Can we count on you to make sure lawmakers hear from regular people, not just the wealthy few?
We need to deliver a loud, unapologetic reminder that Washingtonians want a tax code that works for all of us.
➡️Chip in today to our Fight Back Fund.
Your contribution powers organizing, advocacy, and the backbone of the movement demanding a fair tax code.
Thanks in advance for stepping up — our kids deserve a state that works for them, not just for billionaires.
In solidarity,
Treasure

Invest in Washington Now, 509 Olive Way Ste 1133, Seattle, WA, 98101

Five years ago, Invest in Washington was founded on a simple belief: that all Washingtonians can thrive when the wealthy pay their fair share.
And we’ve made extraordinary progress in just those five years (see below!) But now, everything we’ve fought for is on the line.
Federal cuts are already impacting working Washingtonians, and while families struggle, some state leaders are already whispering about “belt-tightening” – cuts to education, health care and more.
That’s why we’re asking for your support of our Fight Back Fund, a rapid response effort to protect our progress and push for the next phase of tax fairness in 2026.
Together, we’ve made real progress. With your support, we’ve:
- Won the first progressive revenue measure in 30 years, passing and defending the Capital Gains excise tax.
- Closed tax loopholes for special interests and the wealthiest corporations.
- Advanced a first-in-the-nation wealth tax through one chamber of the Legislature, a major step toward lasting tax justice.
- Built a network of over 120,000 tax justice activists in every corner of the state.
That’s what people power can do. But the challenges working Washingtonians face in the coming year are profound:
- Congress and Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” (HR1) are slashing SNAP benefits and sending healthcare costs for Washington families into a death spiral.
- Across the country, we have seen the highest job loss numbers since 2003, and here in Washington state thousands of tech workers have been laid off.
Even $25 makes a difference – your support helps us:
- Invest in grassroots organizing that builds power.
- Share compelling stories like this one from Reverend Jan Bolerjack that show how policy decisions impact people’s daily lives
- Build the public pressure lawmakers need to do the right thing
Because while families across Washington are paying more at the grocery store and struggling to make ends meet, the wealthiest Washingtonians are about to receive$7 billion in new federal tax breaks.
That’s not just unfair – it’s unsustainable.
You’ve already shown what’s possible when we stand together. Let’s do it again.
Chip in today to keep Washington moving towards a tax system that works for everyone.
With gratitude,
Treasure Mackley

Every day, hundreds of community members held at the Northwest ICE Processing Center (NWIPC) face an increasingly dire situation. Since the start of the year, the number of people detained at the NWIPC has surged from roughly 700 to over 1,500 people, pushing the facility to capacity. And Northwest Immigrant Rights Project remains one of the few organizations providing consistent, in-person legal services inside the facility.
The challenges are immense. Wait times to meet with our clients have increased dramatically. A newly implemented “Detainee Initiative Program” has accelerated life-altering immigration proceedings from a period of months to just a few weeks, dramatically reducing the time available to our clients and staff for preparing frequently complicated immigration cases. The NWIPC has the lowest bond-release rate in the entire country at only 3%, according to recent data. And there have been documented human rights violations at the facility for many years, tracked by our partners at the University of Washington Center for Human Rights.
Despite these challenges, NWIRP continues to fight these injustices. We remain on the ground every week, conducting intakes, advising individuals on their rights, and representing clients in complex legal proceedings. And we continue to pursue legal remedy in court, where the District Court ruled in favor of NWIRP’s clients last month. But sustaining this level of work—and expanding it to meet the growing need—requires long-term support.
This is where you can make a profound difference.
Your gift today will allow NWIRP to continue our dedicated services at the detention center. It will ensure that community members in detention will have legal counsel by their side as they face a racist and unjust system.
In a moment when the challenges are rising faster than ever, your support is essential. Together, we can continue defending the rights and dignity of every person in detention.
Thank you for standing with immigrant communities and with NWIRP.
With gratitude,

Malou Chávez (she/her/ella)
Executive Director
P.S. Over the summer, Congress approved massive increases to immigration filing fees, making access to safety even more difficult for the communities that we serve. If you would like your donation directed to the payment and processing of filing fees, please indicate this in the dropdown menu on our giving page.

Despite the current administration’s repeated mistreatment of our immigrant community members, we are committed to challenging their unlawful policies and practices in court. And your support is what makes this possible.
One of the many ways NWIRP is stepping up to combat the dramatic expansion of the government’s detention and deportation machine is by filing habeas petitions in federal courts. Habeas petitions are used primarily to request release from unlawful detention. Since the start of the Trump administration NWIRP has filed habeas petitions on behalf of 39 persons unlawfully detained at the detention center in Tacoma.
One of those community members, Rigoberto Hernandez Hernandez, was released earlier this year after his unlawful arrest in August. Rigoberto is a firefighter who lives in Oregon, and was arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol at his work site–while on the front lines battling the Bear Gulch fire. When ordered to respond to the habeas complaint filed by NWIRP and Innovation Law Lab, the government agreed to release Rigoberto and dismiss the removal proceedings against him.
In addition, NWIRP has led the way nationally in challenging a new detention policy, by filing two class actions: the first, focused on Tacoma detention center, where the District Court ruled in favor of NWIRP’s clients last month; and the second, a nationwide class that has arguments scheduled tomorrow, November 14, in Riverside, California. In addition, NWIRP has supported dozens of attorneys around the country in filing habeas petitions–by providing habeas templates and mentoring attorneys on their cases. The results have been dramatic both locally and across the country, where more than a hundred court decisions have sided with NWIRP’s arguments challenging the government’s new detention policy as unlawful.
We cannot do this work without you. As we prepare for whatever comes next, please consider making a gift to support our ongoing efforts to protect community members from unlawful detention and deportation.
Thank you. We are so glad you are part of our community.
In Solidarity,

Malou Chávez (she/her/ella)
Executive Director
P.S. Over the summer, Congress approved massive increases to immigration filing fees, making access to safety even more difficult for the communities that we serve. If you would like your donation directed to the payment and processing of filing fees, please indicate this in the dropdown menu on our giving page.

Did you see this?

The Yakima Herald says:
As devastating as [cutting Medicaid] would be for individuals, it also imperils critical basic funding for hospitals and nursing homes around the state.
“Hospitals will close in Washington state, in rural parts of our state and urban parts of our state,” Ferguson warned last month. “Take that to the bank. That’s going to happen. Nursing homes in our state will close.”
Newhouse is sticking to his story, though, falsely claiming that the Medicaid system is rife with fraud and waste, and that this bill merely cleans up the books and keeps benefits flowing for legitimate recipients.
But Newhouse is no fool. He chose his words carefully before he voted.
He may have promised not to directly cut Medicaid, but he knew full well that’s exactly what H.R. 1 would ultimately mean. Now he’s coldly trying to justify turning his back on the harm this heartless legislation will cause the 4th District.
That’s not just disappointing or dismaying. It’s disgraceful.
Rep. Newhouse can change his vote when this bill comes up again. We know that personal stories and experiences can powerfully persuade members of Congress. Can you share your reasons for opposing Medicaid cuts?
Thank you for all you do!
Sincerely,
Emilio Meraz-Rodriguez

The Washington Health Trust is back in the Senate
The 2025 legislative session has started, and it’s time to contact our elected officials! Once again, Senator Bob Hasegawa from Legislative District 11 has introduced the Washington Health Trust (WHT). We’re incredibly grateful for Senator Hasegawa’s advocacy on this critical issue, and now, it’s time for us to spring into action. We need co-sponsors to the bill ASAP. The deadline for co-sponsors is 5 PM today, so time is of the essence. See the Actions below.
We’re Spreading the Word!

Whole Washington volunteers, Board members, and our Executive Director were in Olympia on opening day, dropping off literature and making contact with office staff. It’s a bustling time in the capitol and a great opportunity for us to create some heat.
As Jim noted, we’re “taking our bill to our legislators before they’re even sworn in.” Thank you to all for your time, passion, and advocacy!
What are the chances for the WHT this year?
We’ve been advised Senate Bill 5233 will not receive a hearing this session. It’s our responsibility and obligation to not go silent. Our healthcare is much too important.
A hearing on comprehensive universal healthcare is more pressing than ever. Washington State has a massive budget shortfall (10 to 12 billion in the coming four years). Opportunites to save money need to be reviewed, and the WHT is just such an opportunity.
Both the Universal Health Care Commission Report and the 2021 Gerald Friedman analysis, show significant savings (anywhere from 738 million to 12 billion, depending on the model) while providing expanded benefits like vision, dental, and mental health services. We’d feel better and we’d save money. It’d be negligent to ignore a close review of the bill at this time.
What actions do we take right now?
There’s plenty we can do to press the WHT forward. Right now, these are the two big ones.
- Make Online Comments in support of the bill. Click on the top green button on the right that says Send a comment on this bill to your legislators. You’ll click the Support button and add your personal comments. Remember to send to your Senator plus both House Representative
- Contact your elected officials. This is the most vital action you can do today! Call or write them and let them know you support this Universal Healthcare bill. Ask your Senator to co-sponsor SB 5233 as soon as possible. Ask your Representatives to introduce a companion bill. Need help finding contact info? Use the District Finder here.
Reach out to Republicans and Independents too. Universal Healthcare is good for all of us!
Please reply back to this email if you make contact or leave a message. We’d love to hear what actions you’re taking and what you’re hearing from their offices.
Want to know more about the new WHT?
Join us tomorrow for the Virtual Town Hall! We’ll cover what’s different, share our stories, and plan together how to make the most of this moment!
Thank you so much for anything and everything you put in today to make some noise and increase the awareness for this legislation. This is not Whole Washington’s bill. It’s Washington’s bill. We can make our lives better. We just have to demand it.
In passionate and hopeful solidarity,
Whole Washington

One Million Rising Registrants,
After an incredible summer of organizing together and building our capacity to fight authoritarianism into the future, join us for our final One Million Rising call this Wednesday, October 8, at 8pm ET/5pm PT.
Many of you have been taking part in our Signs of Solidarity, Ground Avelo, and other One Million Rising campaigns. Come hear more about how they’ve been going, how you can stay plugged in, and how they’ve evolved as you’ve been spreading strategic non-cooperation across the country.
The highlight of this call will be our launch of the Courage Collectives.
For One Million Rising, we talked about how the best way to fight authoritarianism isn’t by aiming at the top, but through addressing the pillars upholding the regime. Those pillars can be houses of faith, educational institutions, military branches, and any number of other organizations, societies, or groupings of people that hold community power. But we didn’t talk about how to organize to address these pillars.
Unlike your typical organizing model, pillars-based organizing may not be local. As an example, alumni of a university that is upholding the agenda of an authoritarian administration may be located across the country. Come learn how we’ll be organizing pillars-based communities with our Courage Collectives. **Bonus: We’ll also be giving a training on what power mapping is and how to connect it to your pillars-based organizing work.
After the October 8 call, One Million Rising will wind down as a freestanding program, and the infrastructure and campaigns will fold back into the No Kings movement, the new Courage Collectives, and other organizing paths we’ll share on the call. Join us this Wednesday to learn more.
Thank you for growing this movement with us,
The One Million Rising Team

Indivisible Rural Program [2021 WORKING DOC]

Join Our Call December 3rd 5pm PST!
Dear Rural Indivisibles,
I’m writing with a quick reminder and warm invitation to join us for this month’s Rural Caucus Call. As we close out the year, we’re gathering to reflect on what our local groups have accomplished, connect those wins to our broader national priorities, and share an early look at what’s ahead for the caucus in 2026.
This call is also a space to ground ourselves before the year ends — to celebrate, listen, and prepare for the work and care we’ll need moving forward.
You’ll leave with a clear picture of the incredible work rural groups have led this year, how those efforts strengthen our national strategy, and what our early plans are for the caucus in 2026 — including ways you can plug in.
Our hope is that you leave feeling an even stronger sense of ownership in the Rural Caucus. We’ll uplift stories directly from local groups and include a listening segment with a short survey so your voice shapes where we go next.
Before the holidays begin, we want you to take something for yourself — so we’ll be inviting everyone to make a small self-care plan and commit to returning together in January, ready and renewed.
We truly hope you’ll join us for this closing conversation of 2025. Your presence continues to shape this caucus and the possibilities we’re building across red & rural communities.
Looking forward to being in community with each of you.
Warmly,
– The Indivisible Red and Rural Caucus Team

Join Our Call December 3rd 5pm PST!
Dear Rural Indivisibles,
It’s been a while! Since my departure as co-leader of the Rural Caucus in 2023, I’ve missed you all dearly. This is an incredibly dedicated and resilient community, and it’s about to get even more powerful.
Aftyn Behn, former group leader and co-founder of the Red and Rural Caucus, is running in a special election to flip Tennessee’s Seventh Congressional District. You may recall Aftyn from the first-ever rural caucus summit or from her leadership of inclusive and open rural calls. It’s indisputable that Aftyn’s efforts made a permanent mark on rural organizing at Indivisible. Now, it’s time to show her the same enthusiasm she gave us.
Flipping TN-07 won’t be an easy race to win–Trump won the district by 22 points in 2024. However, we saw races across the nation flip by that margin just two weeks ago. If anyone is up for the challenge, it’s Aftyn. In addition to her time with the Rural Caucus, Aftyn has served as a social worker and a state House Representative. She’s a fighter running to feed kids, fix roads, and fund hospitals. As a longtime activist, Aftyn understands the power of grassroots organizing.
Early voting in the race began on November 13th, and we have just two weeks until voting closes on Election Day (December 2nd). This is our only chance to flip a congressional seat in 2025, and we need your help. You can help get out the vote for Aftyn by:
Signing up for a phonebank. Dials into TN-07 start TOMORROW, and you can join from anywhere in the country! We will start every shift with a training, so first-time phonebankers are welcome!
Knocking doors with Neighbor2Neighbor. If you live in TN-07, take this opportunity to get outside and meet your neighbors! We will provide you with a list of ten like-minded neighbors, a script, and a printable flyer to leave behind.
Splitting a donation between Aftyn and Indivisible. What does Aftyn’s campaign have in common with Indivisible (aside from our shared love of grassroots organizing)? Neither of us are taking a dollar of corporate PAC money. If you are able, please help us power our GOTV efforts and get Aftyn over the finish line.
Want to learn more about Aftyn? Join the What’s the Plan call featuring Aftyn Behn, this Thursday, November 20, 2025.
Flipping this district won’t be easy, but rural organizers understand that the most impactful undertakings rarely are. Let’s harness the grassroots power of our caucus and send one of our own to Congress.
In solidarity,
Tricia Sauer
Rural Caucus Co-Founder

NDTC trained 960+ winning candidates in 2025. Now we’re asking: Who’s next?
The answer might be a school board member ready to run for city council, a volunteer organizer who doesn’t realize they’d be a great candidate, or a neighbor who keeps saying “somebody should do something.” It might be you.

We’re ready to train you.
Are you ready to win?
Now that we’re fully done counting, we trained 1440+ candidates in 2025, and totaled 965+ wins — we count 50 new mayors and 640+ new city council and school board members who trained with NDTC. Also, 20% of the current Virginia House of Delegates Dems are NDTC learners. And we are r.e.a.d.y. for 2026.
If you are looking at this week’s headlines and think we deserve better — you’re right. And you, yes YOU, can step up. You’re the person who knows your community better than anyone. You can be the reason our schools get funded, our communities are livable, our government responsive. If you’re ready to run on work on a campaign in 2026, we’re ready to train you.

Why this story matters:
The case, now at SCOTUS’ doors, has huge implications for the mid-terms, especially with Texas’ own filing deadline coming up in early December.
Why this story matters:
Trump and his cronies have shown no indication of respecting the peaceful transfer of power; that’s why their defeat has to be resounding and undeniable.

It’s official: We just filed our brief to protect transgender kids at the Supreme Court.
Our client, Becky Pepper-Jackson, is a 15 year old girl who just wants the same opportunities as any other kid. But she lives in West Virginia – where a 2021 law bans her from playing school sports because she’s trans.
Becky is the only openly trans kid playing sports in the state – but she’s not alone.
27 states across the country have passed similar bans since 2020. These bans make bullying, harassment, and humiliation the law of the land, opening the door to transphobic witchhunts for trans and cis kids alike. Many of these states require invasive sex testing that orders kids as young as 12 to “prove” their sex by submitting detailed medical records about their weight, their anatomy, and even their menstrual cycles or submitting to physical inspections if they want to play a sport.
Every kid should be allowed to grow up with the freedom to be themselves on and off the field.
These bans are a continuation of the Trump administration’s attempts to push trans people out of public life entirely – censoring our speech, threatening our health care, and forcing schools to drop policies protecting trans kids.
We can’t let these attacks go unchallenged – which is exactly why we’ll be arguing this case at the Supreme Court in January. As long as there are threats to our rights, the ACLU will always be there to fight back.
We’ll keep in touch with the latest on this major case and more ways you can join this fight with us. Thanks for all you do to support this critical work. And to the Trump administration – we’ll see you in court.

If you want to make the biggest possible impact in the fight against MAGA extremism, here’s the truth:
Emerge is one of the highest-ROI investments in Democratic politics.
After 20 years of training, recruiting, and electing Democratic women, our 2025 results speak for themselves:
• 77% — Emerge’s overall win rate.
Nearly 300 alums were on the ballot in 20 states, and 223 won their races.
• 63% — Win rate for Emerge’s first-time candidates.
That’s six times the national average for first-time Democratic candidates!
• 94% — Win rate for Emerge incumbents.
Our leaders stay in the fight and keep delivering for their communities.
Emerge alums are shifting power everywhere, but the stakes are only getting higher. If we want to stop Trump’s agenda and rebuild our democracy, we need to train even more women to step up and run.
Will you invest in Emerge today to help build the next class of Democratic women leaders?

With just 10 days left until the deadline, our November goal is slipping out of reach, and unless we close the gap, we’ll have to scale back upcoming trainings for Democratic women ready to run.
That’s why we’re counting on 8 supporters from 99352 to match our average contribution of $22 before midnight tonight.
Every donation strengthens the pipeline by helping us train first-time candidates who are six times more likely to win with Emerge.
If we hit this goal, we can train even more women who win.
If we fall short, we slow down when we can least afford it.
Let’s close this gap.

Heading into Thanksgiving with loved ones who voted for Trump and now regret it?
You’re not alone. So many folks who once backed him are feeling the chaos: ICE raids at daycares, Epstein’s circle resurfacing, Trump living in luxury while families can’t afford groceries. People are shaken, uncertain, and quietly reconsidering what they thought they believed.
If we’re going to protect our freedoms from the fascists in charge, we need the biggest “we” possible. That means finding common ground, rebuilding trust, and organizing the people in our lives who are ready to step away from MAGA.
So we created a resource to help you have those conversations with clarity, boundaries, and purpose.
Together,
Women’s March

Dear MoveOn member,
The leaves are changing, and it sure looks like the political tides are changing as well.
Earlier this month, Democrats didn’t just sweep races up and down the ballot; they made history.
The message was clear: We all deserve to be able to thrive, not just scrape by, and we will not accept Donald Trump’s vicious and cruel authoritarian agenda.
To celebrate these historic victories, and to remind Trump and his MAGA allies that the mass movement to end their tyranny is growing stronger every day, MoveOn just printed a big batch of these festive “My Favorite Season Is the Fall of Fascism” stickers, and we’re giving them away for free—while supplies last!
Click here or on the image below to order yours now!
This month’s results filled us with hope, Kendall.
Zohran Mamdani will become the mayor of New York City.1 Democrats flipped 13 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates.2 Voters who listed the economy as their top issue swung toward Democrats in New Jersey and Virginia by a shocking 93%.3 Democrats won two statewide races in Georgia.4 They even broke the Republican supermajority in the Mississippi State Senate.5 Mississippi!
This shows that the massive waves of support we saw at last month’s historic No Kings rallies were not fleeting—our movement is continuing to grow, and these electoral victories are another step toward putting a real check against Trump’s hateful agenda and abuses of power.
But it doesn’t end here.
The countdown starts now toward next year’s midterm elections where we will have the opportunity to expand these wins into a historic blue wave that doesn’t just stop Trump, but puts our country on a path toward a brighter, more equitable, progressive future.
We’re in this for the long haul, Kendall.
Thanks for all you do.

Dear MoveOn member,
Did you hear the big news? The No Kings coalition has announced there will be a third No Kings Day!1
There couldn’t be a better time for another massive day of protest. Because our movement is booming and growing stronger every day.
Just look at the numbers.
In April: 3 million of us protested at 1,300 Hands Off! events.
In June: 5 million of us protested at 2,100 No Kings events.
And in October: 7 million of us protested at more than 2,700 No Kings events.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump is flailing on the economy, and his approval rating is in the gutter—only 37% of Americans approve of Trump.2
Everywhere, all over the country, people are coming together to state loudly and clearly: We will overcome tyranny.
And that’s so important, because one of the most powerful ways to beat back authoritarianism is through mass mobilization. Research shows that if just 3.5% of a country’s population mobilizes in a sustained way, they turn the tide against authoritarians.3
But we’re not quite there yet. During last month’s No Kings Day, 7 million of us protested. It was the largest protest in American history. But to meet the 3.5% rule, we need 4 million more people to join us—11 million total.
We’re almost there. And to help us get there, MoveOn and our partners will be coordinating a third No Kings Day in the coming months.
But massive and historic days of protest do not just happen overnight. The third No Kings day of action will take months to build and prepare for. It will take finding volunteer leaders in more communities across the country, consistent and sustained organizing to build community, skills, and leadership, recruiting new people into the progressive movement, and, as the day draws closer, recruiting, training, and supporting thousands of volunteer leaders all across the country.
And that work starts now.
MoveOn will continue dedicating our work, day in and day out, 24/7, to building this mass mobilization movement alongside a web of other allied organizations. But in these chilling times, we need your help to ensure we have the financial resources to turbocharge our organizing, community by community all across the country.
Will you start a monthly donation of $5 to MoveOn now to build and sustain the mass mobilization movement to stop Trump’s tyranny?
No, I’m sorry, I can’t make a monthly donation.
Kendall, you might be wondering: Can protests really make a difference?
The answer is a resounding “yes!” While protests aren’t enough to stop Trump’s tyranny on their own, they are an essential component. Here’s what mass mobilizations do:
- They change the narrative. When thousands show up in every corner of the country, we disrupt the Trump administration’s attempt to project inevitability and strength. We show that resistance isn’t fringe—it’s everywhere and it’s growing. As Robert Reich put it: “The Emperor has no clothes.”
- They bring new people into the movement. Events like this reach neighbors who aren’t yet engaged. They help people take that first step and connect with others in their community who are ready to act.
- They build courage. When people see so many others in the streets, it gives them permission to speak up in their own lives—with family, at work, in their communities. Courage truly is contagious. And right now, we need it spreading everywhere. They also protect our rights when we turn out in such large numbers and ensure we can continue to express our dissent amid authoritarian overreach.
- They give us renewed hope. Protests are filled with joy—music, dance, chants, speeches, and solidarity. When you see thousands of others who refuse to accept this as normal, you remember that change is possible and that together, we still have the power to shape what comes next.
That’s why grassroots organizing and mass movements matter so much. When millions of people gather on the same day, someone afraid will find courage. Someone alone will find community. Someone ready to give up will decide to keep going. And all of us will remember we’re capable of far more than Trump wants us to believe.
That’s how movements change history. And that’s why MoveOn is excited to help coordinate the next No Kings Day and to continue to build the progressive mass movement against authoritarianism.
But we cannot do it without you.
Will you start a monthly donation of $5 today to help MoveOn power our organizing that’s building the movement to stop Trump’s tyranny? It’s It’s going to take each and every one of us doing all that we can.
No, I’m sorry, I can’t make a monthly donation.
Thanks for all you do.

March For Our Lives Virtual Events

The agency meant to stop illegal guns is being pulled off that job right now:

TL;DR ATF agents who used to investigate shady gun dealers are being reassigned to immigration raids and city patrols. Inspectors who could shut down dangerous sellers are gone. Enforcement has been slashed while the people who profit from guns keep operating.
That means more illegal guns on our streets, more weapons flowing to cartels, and more kids at risk.
An anonymous ATP investigator shared, “They’re de-regulating an industry that sells tools that can take people’s lives in seconds.”
March For Our Lives is organizing young leaders to expose this and demand accountability. We train organizers, run campaigns, and keep pressure on officials who choose political theater over public safety.
But none of that happens without resources from advocates like you.
Will you chip in $10 right now to power organizers fighting to keep guns out of the wrong hands?
Thank you for standing with survivors and young leaders.

Hi,
Last week, voters across the country sent a clear, powerful message:
Gun safety wins. Hope wins. Our movement can win.
From Virginia to Maine, from New York City to Atlanta, Americans showed up and voted for leaders who believe that our lives are worth protecting. Here are some of our big wins:
- Abigail Spanberger was elected Governor of Virginia.
- Zohran Mamdani was elected Mayor of New York City.
- Mikie Sherrill was elected Governor of New Jersey.
- Mayor Michelle Wu was re-elected in Boston.
- Mayor Andre Dickens won re-election in Atlanta.
- Aftab Pureval was elected Mayor of Cincinnati.
- Mary Sheffield was elected Mayor of Detroit.
- Pennsylvania retained all three of its Supreme Court seats.
- Georgia flipped two Public Service Commission seats.
- Maine voters approved a red flag law that makes it easier for family members to petition a court to restrict a potentially dangerous person’s access to guns.
Each of these victories represents more than a victory at the ballot box — they represent lives saved, communities strengthened, and a future where every young person can feel safe at school, at the movies, or at home.
Our movement at March For Our Lives was born from tragedy, but we won’t let the gun lobby wear us down and make us give up on this fight. We will use these victories to recharge, regroup, and refocus our energies.
Are you with us?
With hope,
March For Our Lives

Last week we asked you to sign on to the We Ain’t Buying It! boycott of Target, Amazon, and Home Depot from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday.
If you have not yet, take 20 seconds and do it now.
Now, we need everyone on board.
4,300 people have signed on to SURJ’s pledge to boycott, and our goal is 11,000.
Can you copy and forward the email below to five people in your life to help us get there? Friends, family, neighbors, teachers – people who care about justice just like you. We Ain’t Buying It! is a nationwide, multiracial boycott, so share this far and wide.
Hey friend,
I’ve joined forces with SURJ, Black Voters Matter, Indivisible, and the Working Families Party to take part in the We Ain’t Buying It! boycott, and I’m asking you to join me.
Take 20 seconds and sign on to boycott Home Depot, Target, and Amazon from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday.
After nearly a year of the Trump administration and corporate America’s attacks on working families, immigrants, and people of color, we are looking for a way to break out of this pain and disrupt the status quo.
That’s how We Ain’t Buying It! was formed: it’s a national boycott of Home Depot, Target, and Amazon from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday 2025. It’s a way to send a clear message to corporate America and the Trump administration that we have the power, and we won’t cooperate with their cruelty. This holiday shopping weekend — when 20% of annual retail sales happen — we’re using our collective power to show corporate America that our values aren’t for sale.
Why these stores?
- Home Depot is allowing ICE agents to illegally detain and kidnap laborers from their stores. The laborers in our communities are not able to look for work safely.
- Target has rolled back its DEI initiatives, which included ending programs that help Black employees advance, cutting financial support for Black-owned businesses, and removing LGBTQ+ products from their stores.
- Amazon is a virtual monopoly, contributes to dangerous working conditions for its employees and drivers, and CEO Jeff Bezos has donated over $1 million to the Trump administration.
People just like us from all across the US are signing on because enough is enough. If they profit off our pain, they don’t deserve our dollars.
I know Black Friday and Cyber Monday are huge days for sales, but I’m going to spend my money elsewhere and enjoy knowing I did it at stores that I chose instead of ones I settled for.
Sign the pledge to boycott these retailers between November 27th and December 1st and speak the only language corporations understand: our wallets.
There’s momentum right now in the world to fight back, and I’m asking you to be a changemaker and harness it with me. Let’s do this together and declare: We Ain’t Buying It!

David let us know that he wants to call grassroots donors to thank them for supporting us during this critical moment for Leaders We Deserve.
Want a chance to get a call? Donate $25 now and you might be on the list.
Right now, we’re laser-focused on funding our $20 million investment in a new generation of progressive leaders. We have some big plans for this election cycle:
🔴 Defeating vulnerable Republicans and flipping their competitive districts blue.
🔵 Challenging ineffective Democrats in safe-seats with young, bold candidates.
🟣 Running progressive champions for open seats and building a bigger bench.
But we also know that this work is only possible with your support. We aren’t funded by right-wing billionaires and corporate PACs. We rely on people just like you chipping in whatever amount makes sense for them, whenever they can.
If we don’t keep our fundraising on track, we risk needing to scale back on our plans for this election. We can’t let that happen.
Thank you for your support,
Leaders We Deserve
| To give by check: Leaders We Deserve 611 Pennsylvania Ave SE #192 Washington, DC 20003 Email us: info@leaderswedeserve.com |

Let’s clear up a common misconception about Leaders We Deserve:
Our mission is not “young people vs. old people.” It’s about fighters vs. folders — and that cuts across every generation.
We focus so much on opening the door for young leaders because it’s been bolted shut for decades. This isn’t a new phenomenon. Wealthy donor networks, corporate PACs, and party machines have designed a system that makes it nearly impossible for younger candidates — and working-class people of any age — to run for office and win.
At the end of the day, this work isn’t about age. It’s about electing leaders who will actually fight for us — not ones who fold the moment their donors get uncomfortable or drag their feet while our planet burns.
And here’s the truth: we should never discount older generations, because real change only happens when all of us stand together, regardless of our age.
Leaders We Deserve would not exist without older Americans who want to see the status quo change and are fed up with watching the rights they spent their youth fighting for be ripped away. Many of our strongest grassroots supporters remember being young and feeling unseen by power, so now they’re determined to help pass the torch to a new generation of leaders. (Side note — not only did they fight for their generation, they literally opened the door for the next by lowering the voting age to 18!) We should all be extremely grateful for their support.
It’s far from just financial support that they bring, though. We rely on older people as mentors and examples. They marched for civil rights, protested wars, fought for reproductive rights, and defended democracy long before many of us were even born — laying the groundwork for our generation to lead youth-led movements on gun violence, climate action, racial justice, and more. We may be different ages, but we share a common belief: too many people in power simply are out of touch with our daily lives and struggles.
That’s why we built LWD: to finally open the door for community-rooted leaders of all ages who reflect our lived experiences. But it only works when we do it together.
Look at Akbar Ali. He’s on the brink of becoming the youngest legislator in Georgia state history if he wins his runoff, made possible because Rep. Shelly Hutchinson, a longtime community leader, chose to step aside and lift up the next generation. That’s the model.
We see it in Speaker Pelosi passing leadership to the next generation. We see it at the No Kings protests, led in large part by older Americans. Some of them literally fought fascism and are showing up again to defend our democracy, while I’m sorry to say, too many Gen-Z and millennials stay at home. If we feel fed up and pissed off by the status quo in our 20s and 30s, imagine how frustrated the generations before us feel. And yet, they still show up in overwhelming numbers every day to fight for a better future, our future. Leaders We Deserve is here to empower young people to have a voice in power and to encourage older generations to pass the torch so new leaders can learn from them and be as effective as possible.
That is what an intergenerational coalition looks like. And we need more of it.
We endorse young candidates not because they’re young, but because they’re the long-term investment our country desperately needs. And we need your help to keep building this bench.
Will you chip in today to help grow our movement and elect the next generation of leaders?
Thank you for helping build a future worthy of every generation, present and future.

Each day, more and more headlines appear that show our administration is fracturing.
But the American people are standing strong. They’re ready for change. And we’re ready to help.Visit our website to learn how you can get involved.
Policy: Housing is
a Human Right
In 2024, a record-breaking number of people experienced homelessness. In 2023, nearly 70% of Americans reported being ‘very concerned’ about the cost of housing. The American people care about this crisis and want it addressed.
A nation cannot call itself just while millions sleep on the streets. The housing crisis is not an accident—it is the result of policy choices that put profit over people. Skyrocketing rents, unchecked speculation, and a system that treats shelter as a commodity instead of a necessity have left too many without a place to call home.
The solution is clear: Guarantee housing as a human right. Invest in affordable housing, strengthen tenant protections, and curb corporate landlords who hoard empty units while families struggle. No one should be homeless in a country of abundance.
Action must follow principle. Demand rent control, public housing investment, and policies that prioritize people over profit. Support leaders who fight for fair housing, not those who serve developers.
This is not charity—it is justice. A stable home is the foundation of health, education, and opportunity. When people are housed, communities thrive, crime decreases, and economies grow. The right to shelter is as fundamental as the right to food or clean water.
A roof over one’s head should not be a privilege—it should be a guarantee. End the housing crisis. Secure the right to a home for all.

The craziest darn thing happened one Saturday in late January. I had been laid up since the afternoon before, so when I awoke, I checked my social media feed to see what my friends had been up to in the past day or so.
Project 2029 is growing! Join us!
We are actively seeking volunteers who are motivated to improve our current system. We’re everyday citizens from all walks of life – from young to old, white collar to blue collar, and from all across the U.S.
Reach out today to get involved!
Don’t have time to volunteer?
Get updates, follow & share our message on social!
Project 2029 | Drive Change Together
Project 2029 is an all-volunteer, national grassroots movement committed to disrupting the broken system and redefining what democracy means from the ground up.
We are not affiliated with or supported by any political party or political action group (PAC). We are funded by donations from everyday individuals who support our vision and shared hope for America.
