WSDCC Wrap-up September 23, 2022

Posted on September 23, 2022

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

Click on the image to play the audio clip.

At a town hall this week in Amboy, Joe Kent revealed his first-day, No. 1 priority if elected to Congress — impeaching President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. For what? Providing student debt relief, taking bold action to combat climate change, or creating millions of good-paying jobs? The Biden-Harris administration, with help from Washington’s congressional Democrats, has done more in just the last few months than Donald Trump during his entire presidency.

But that’s not all, folks. Kent also talked about his desire to virtually end all immigration in the U.S., continued to spew conspiracy theories about the 2020 election and the Jan. 6 insurrection, made many hateful transphobic and xenophobic comments, insisted Planned Parenthood and the FBI should be defunded, voiced support for his MAGA Republican buddies Tiffany Smiley, Jim Jordan, Marjorie Taylor Greene and Matt Gaetz, and so much more.

Let me remind you, this is the same guy who said, “I don’t think there’s anything wrong with there being a white people special interest group.” Click on the image above, and you can hear that quote for yourself. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Joe Kent is not only the antithesis of our Democratic values, but of American values. And we can’t allow him to win. Far too much is at stake.

None of Kent’s hateful comments come as a surprise when all the GOP does is stoke the flames of vitriol and violence. And rather than call it out or work to combat any extremism, they profit from it. We’ve seen it here in Washington state with not only Kent, but Smiley and Matt Larkin too — all of whom would happily fall in line to enact Trump’s MAGA agenda if elected and control of Congress flips. But we have the chance to not only protect our Democratic majorities, but strengthen them by winning races like in WA-03.

This is our moment to flip the 3rd, and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez is just the candidate to do it. She is committed to finding meaningful solutions to the problems impacting Washingtonians most — problems that impact her and her family day to day, whether it’s being a small business owner, trying to find quality child care, or dealing with rising costs. The differences couldn’t be more stark. This is why it’s abundantly clear, Marie is the voice Washingtonians need in Congress. It’s our job to help get her across the finish line, but we need your help!

Below you will find plenty of opportunities to get involved in southwest Washington, where you can support Marie and many of our incredible candidates, ensuring MAGA Republicans like Kent come nowhere close to serving in public office. But again, that takes all of us. So, sign up today, and be on the lookout for additional events in southwest Washington and statewide.

WORKING FOR WASHINGTON

This past weekend, the Washington State Democratic Central Committee met in Wenatchee to conduct important state party business! It was the first in-person meeting held since the start of the pandemic. Members met safely, worked hard, and were proud to nominate a diverse group of candidates to the 2022 Washington State Democratic Slate, including Congresswoman Kim Schrier! Now it’s time we help ensure Dr. Schrier and Democrats up and down the ticket are elected in November — and we’ve got 46 days to do it!

Find the full slate of candidates online at wa-democrats.org/2022slate.

DEMOCRATS IN THE NEWS

After Herrera Beutler: Can a Centrist Democrat win over Southwest Washington?
The race for Washington’s Third District has attracted national attention — first to see if the extreme faction of the Republican Party would punish Herrera Beutler for demonstrating a sense of conscience and morality by voting to impeach Trump, and now to see if a Democrat can win in a Republican district by appealing to the center.
EDITORIAL: Restore expanded tax credit to lift even more children out of poverty
Data confirm the expanded child tax credit worked, said U.S. Rep. Suzan DelBene, who was instrumental in making the credit part of pandemic relief. The Washington Democrat is spearheading efforts to make the benefit permanent.

TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES

Messaging for the Midterms: Messaging GOTV | 5 p.m. Oct. 3
We all know what to do to Get Out the Vote: door knocking, phone banking, texting, mailers, lit drops, etc. It's tough to get people to vote during the midterms and even tougher to get them excited about local elections. We need to tell people why they should vote, not just who to vote for, when and where. Learn messaging strategies that will compel people to want to get out and vote.

Register to attend for free HERE.

Keep in touch, stay engaged, and as always, thank you for all you do!

Does the current water crisis in the Colorado River basin predict the future for Eastern Washington rivers?

    REGISTER HERE

Most experts agree that how our principal river systems are managed will tell the story. Water is essential for continued growth and economic success for the region, which is entering its third consecutive drought year. Reservoir storage in the Cascades is far below average with little sign of recovery.

The federal Bureau of Reclamation's latest water supply forecast says that irrigators in the Yakima Basin may receive less than half of their full entitlement this year. And it's not just Washington's eighty-billion-dollar agriculture industry that depends on water. The rivers provide water for our cities and industry, generate electricity, move all manner of commodities, and provide for our unique quality of life.
