MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

Today is a dark, devastating day in our nation’s history. We are outraged. We are angry. But we will continue to fight. It is time to be loud and support people who might need an abortion someday, as well as the medical professionals who provide abortion care.

Abortion has always existed and will continue to exist. It is pivotal health care that cannot be denied, and should be available when we need it, on the timeline we choose, and in the community we trust. But MAGA Republicans want to destroy our freedoms, control our lives, block policies a majority of us favor, and overturn our will by court order.

Abortion is still legal in Washington state, but that is not guaranteed. If we lose a single seat — whether it’s in Olympia or D.C. — MAGA Republicans will have the inch they need to completely strip away our freedom to decide whether and when we grow our families by trying to ban safe, legal abortion everywhere. And make no mistake, today’s decision goes beyond abortion. All of our freedoms are in jeopardy.

Now is the time for us to show up and fight for our communities. Abortion justice can’t wait. The only way to ensure we have freedom to get the care we need and make the decisions that are right for our families is at the ballot box. There is only one party protecting abortion care — the Democrats. We must reelect leaders like Sen. Patty Murray and Dr. Kim Schrier to ensure abortion care is accessible, funded, and recognized in Washington state and beyond.

Someone you love will need an abortion some day, and we will fight like hell to guarantee when that day comes, they can get the care they need and have the freedom to decide.

WORKING FOR WASHINGTON

Just yesterday, I made the official pitch before the DNC’s Rules and Bylaws Committee for Washington to become one of the first western states to hold an early presidential primary in 2024. The full DNC will make the ultimate decision by Aug. 6, but no matter the outcome, we’re just so grateful to have participated in this process. It is a real honor to advocate for our state, and share the many reasons why Washington is leading the way for the Democratic Party.

Since 2017, we have increased the vote for Democrats in Washington state — anywhere from 4-14% across all 39 counties —  leading to a number of flipped legislative seats and every statewide office captured for the first time in 60 years. That’s not the result of some random event or a coincidence, but years of hard work and grassroots organizing across several cycles, enabling us to turn popular support for Democratic policies into Democratic majorities. We are a powerful progressive force, and it’s because of YOU. It’s time for that to be recognized on the national stage.

STAFF CORNER

STAFF CORNER
How long have you worked for the state party, and what is your role here?
I’ve been with the state party as its communications director since mid April, happily exchanging Idaho politics for Washington politics.
Why are you a Democrat?
My values are Democratic values. I aspire to live in a society where every person can prosper and participate because they are able to access their full potential. Equity is how we reach equality, and that is exactly what the Democratic Party is working toward.
Why do you enjoy this work?
It is an incredible thing to find true meaning in your work. My role with the state party enables me to help move us closer to that better, brighter tomorrow by electing leaders who not only put people first but are reflective of the communities they serve. Democrats turn hope into change, and I want to be a part of that.
