President Joe Biden is in Washington today! It’s very exciting to have him here to talk about the great work the administration and our congressional Democrats have done over the past year. At Green River Community College, the president talked about the work happening at both the federal and state levels to support our clean energy economy, invest in our infrastructure, and create millions of new jobs while protecting our climate and environment

President Biden also took the occasion of Earth Day to sign a new executive order increasing protections for old-growth forests — conserving land and protecting some of our oldest and biggest trees from logging. Protecting our trees doesn’t just mean protecting our beautiful green forests but also our climate, since trees collectively store billions of tons of carbon dioxide in their trunks, branches, and roots. We know we can simultaneously protect our trees and forests and our rural and timber economies. In fact, it’s climate change that may have some of the biggest impacts on these industries and communities. Crafting win-win policies is exactly the sort of thing we expect from our leaders — President Biden is delivering.

This morning, President Biden was also with Sens. Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell and Congresswoman Kim Schrier, discussing Democrats’ work to lower the cost of prescription drugs, especially insulin. Our legislative Democrats led the charge on this, and passed state legislation this year to limit insulin costs to $35 a month — now we need the same action nationally.

There’s a lot of exciting stuff going on, and I’m glad we had President Biden here to talk to us about it!

Convention in June – I’m so excited for our upcoming 2022 convention at the end of June. We’ll be at the Tacoma Convention Center, with about 1,700 of our great Democratic delegates. I expect we’re going to have some exciting VIP guests to announce soon!

This convention will be a celebration of the accomplishments Democrats have achieved while holding the White House, governor’s office, and both chambers of the state and federal legislative branches. It also serves as a critical opportunity for us to begin fundraising in earnest and ensure we have the necessary resources to deliver all of our Democratic leaders back to office. The energy and momentum we will build during our convention in Tacoma is vital, as it helps us preserve our decisive Democratic legislative majorities and “build the bench” by electing thousands of Democrats in down-ballot races statewide.

Make sure you save the date for our convention and gala dinner Saturday, June 25!

Our Team is Growing – I want to welcome our new Communications Director joining the party staff this week, Olivia, and our King County Regional Field Director Dylan!

Our staff is growing as we get ready for campaign season, and I’m excited about the strong, experienced, and effective team we’re assembling here. We’ve got a lot of campaigning to do this year. I know this crew is made up of the right folks to help support our candidates, local party organizations, and all of our volunteers and activists. We’re all going to work together to get out the vote and WIN! You’ll hear more from us on this as our team continues to grow.

We Need YOU – As new members of the staff join the team, we also need to continue growing our ranks of volunteers. Our grassroots volunteers are our lifeblood; they help us with critical work, like voter contact and running our Coordinated Campaign operation. With more organizers coming on board, we want to make sure we’ve got tons of motivated volunteers ready to go and drive us to victory. Whether it’s making phone calls, knocking on doors, or helping out at our offices, we can use your aid. Please sign up here wa-democrats.org/volunteer, and let us know what you can do to help support our party in this crucial year.

And for many of you, we already have events happening in your area! Click here to see some of the volunteer events we have scheduled, where we’d love to have your help: wa-democrats.org/organizingevents

Thank you so much, as always! President Biden has me inspired and ready to go — we know you feel the same. Let’s go out and win!

With gratitude,

Tina Podlodowski
