Dear Eastern WA friends of FAN,

We hope you are well as this back-to-school time begins! There are a few things we are eager to share with you, and please let us know if you have any questions:

Regional Organizing: First, we hope you saw our announcement this summer of the departure of our Eastern WA Regional Organizer, Lauren Schubring, as she moved on to a regional/urban planning position. We are grateful for her excellent teamwork and the relationships she built with you as advocates and faith communities throughout Eastern WA. You can read her note on our website, and we trust you will continue to see her in the community and at FAN events!

To continue the momentum, we are hiring for a new Eastern WA Regional Organizer, and we hope you will spread the word! Applications considered through September 30.

Stand Against Christian Nationalism: A group of clergy and allies in your area, led by Rev. Rick Matters, is organizing a local response to the ReAwaken America tour coming to the WA-ID border September 16-17. FAN is supportive of these efforts for Christians to be on the frontlines of denouncing this ideology that breeds division and hate; see our announcement here. We invite you to lift up the liberative themes of your multi-faith traditions in vigil and the media during that time as a counter-narrative. The local organizers have a petition they would like as many people as possible to sign in advance of event: read more and sign the petition at: https://bit.ly/ChristianNationalismPetition. The Episcopal Diocese of Spokane is helping lead the way with this powerful recent statement by Bishop Gretchen Rehburg and will offer vigil resources faith communities might use.

FAN Annual Dinner! Would you like to volunteer to make this in-person celebration in Spokane a success? We are preparing to gather our statewide network in Spokane, Renton, and online, on Sunday evening, November 20. FAN Board Member Rev. Jim CastroLang is excited to welcome you in-person to our gathering at the Thrive Center, 110 E. 4th, Spokane. More information and registration will be coming later this month. Please let us know if you can help at fan@fanwa.org or 206-625-9790, and we will put you in touch with Jim.

We will continue to share our updates via our e-news, but didn’t want to miss this opportunity to provide you some local updates. Thanks for all you do for justice!

In solidarity,

Elise
