Doug White Update 6-05-2022

Posted on June 5, 2022

The celebration begins!

It is good to be a Democrat and member of the LGBTQ+ community. I feel this more than ever during PRIDE month. I was born at the beginning of the golden age for the LGBTQ+ community. It wasn’t actually golden, but more like we aren’t going to take any more sh*t so get over it age. I was 9 years old when Stonewall started a revolution. I was 12 when homosexuality was delisted as a mental disease. I turned 20 when the first AIDS case was diagnosed. As time moved on I was always uplifted by the spirit and strength of the gay community. Whenever life threw us lemons we made margaritas. There was nothing that could hold us back or keep us down. That spirit has never been stronger. As a social force we have protected the disenfranchised and strengthened the constitution getting ever closer to true equal rights for everyone.

Gracias.

The Yakima Police Department is a point of pride for me and I tell their story all up and down the district. Today I went on my first ride along and my opinion was confirmed 10 fold. A professional workforce dedicated to keeping our citizens safe. I am familiar with the outreach they do to youth, gangs, domestic violence, and more. This work they do shows how much they care about the community; they go beyond handling crimes and invest in the community to keep us on the right path with support, a gentle nudge, and sometimes a firm hand. Thank you

Rod's House gave me a tour this week and proved again how caring our communities are. Rod's House Started with a home donated by Comprehensive Health and now this safe haven for youths has grown into 6 locations and expanded its services. Being a Meal partner is a good way to get involve and give back. Cook a meal for 30 people (not as difficult as you might think) and help youths in need. I learned about "soft seating". Something I had not thought of before, but many do not have a comfortable and safe place to relax, if only for a short while.
