WA Immigrant Solidarity Network – January 12, 2026

Posted on January 12, 2026

[Español Abajo]

Every year, lawmakers come together in Olympia to determine how our state will care for its people. This year we need to make sure they are showing up for immigrants and refugees.

We know that our communities are worried. Immigration enforcement agents are hiding behind masks while surveilling our neighborhoods and workplaces. The costs of housing, healthcare, and food are crushing families all across the country.

And as always, it is our immigrant and working class friends and neighbors who are carrying the heaviest weight.

But even in times like these, we are not powerless, and no one can take away our power to organize and care for one another. That’s why our 2026 Policy Platform is focused on critical protections for the well-being and dignity of all immigrants and refugees in Washington.

Here is what we are advocating for as part of our primary campaigns this year:

  • Making sure that everyone, regardless of immigration status, has access to the healthcare they need. That means fully funding Apple Health Expansion and protecting the personal data of our community, because no one should have to choose between seeing a doctor and staying safe.
  • Pushing Washington to fund the Deportation Defense Hotline, so that no call for help goes unanswered. The Hotline is a lifeline for community members across the state during immigration enforcement activities and emergencies — connecting families to legal aid help, and over 1,200 vetted resources in more than 300 languages.
  • Ensuring that our personal data can’t be used to target us. We are advocating to close loopholes and pass stronger protections to ensure that no one’s personal information is exploited as part of the mass deportation machine.

The WA state legislative session started today, and key bills tied to some of these priorities are already moving through the legislature. We need your help to make sure this vision becomes state law before session ends on March 12th.

Take ten minutes to help advance important policies for immigrant communities

By signing in “PRO” on the bills at least one hour before their hearings, you can help show broad support to advance them out of committee. It only takes 2 minutes each!

We built our 2026 Policy Platform based on information from community members just like you. It is rooted in the urgent, consistent needs raised through our Deportation Defense Hotline, listening sessions, surveys, direct conversations, and the shared priorities of our partner organizations.

We know what our communities need to thrive, and we are going to show up everyday until it is a reality.

In community,

The Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network
