Happy Friday, Washington Democrats!
Working for Washington
It’s official: Washington is now the only state in the country that voted more Democratic in the 2024 election.
Until all the votes are certified and our data analysts have time to unpack everything, we won’t have a full picture of what went right here in Washington state. But I know that our deep bench of qualified candidates, our incredible party infrastructure, and the beating heart of our party – each of you – helped us stave off the national 6 percentage point red shift that swept across the rest of the nation.
This week, I had the privilege of joining the 34th LD Democrats for their Holiday and Awards Party. Being in community with fellow Democrats and celebrating our wins and the changemakers who helped achieve them was exactly what I needed as we grapple with the realities of a second Trump Administration.
I was also honored to join the Institute for a Democratic Future for a post-election recap at the Backyard Bar in Columbia City. What is clear to me is that Washington Democrats have a winning playbook that can and should be replicated as our party seeks a new way forward.

What I’m Reading
WA voter turnout appears to be lowest since 2000, The Seattle Times – What a misleading headline. Don’t be fooled by bad statistics – MORE votes were cast in 2024 than in 2022, 2018, 2016, 2014, and 2012. Because we now have automatic voter registration, the size of the pie got bigger – so even though as a percentage of registered voters we are seeing voter participation rates on-par with 2000, more total votes were cast this year than most previous elections with the exception of 2020. I, for one, am proud of Washington’s elections systems that make it easier to register and vote by mail.
