MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR
It’s Friday, Washington Democrats!
Working for Washington
Election results are in and the people have spoken!
Voters across Washington rejected MAGA politics and demanded Democratic leadership:
- State Senator Deb Krishnadasan gained a higher vote share in LD 26 than any Democratic candidate since 2012 in that district.
- State Senator Victoria Hunt won her race by more than 10%, dashing any hopes Republicans had of flipping this East King County district.
- Every Democratic incumbent for the legislature won their race, cementing our majorities in Olympia.
- Pierce County’s Charter Review Board now has a majority of Democrats for the first time in recent memory (possibly in the history of this Board per the Pierce County Democratic Chair – if you can help us prove this, let us know)!
- We made huge gains in downballot races in crucial communities in CD-3:
- Democratic-endorsed candidates for City of Vancouver Mayor and all three of the City Council positions on the ballot won their races.
- Democratic-endorsed candidates for both Camas City Council races won their elections by double digits (including beating former CD-3 MAGA Congressional primary candidate Leslie Lewallen).
- Democratic-endorsed candidates for City Council in Longview won two of the three races on the ballot, while the third remained too close to call as of press time.
- SJR 8201, the Constitutional Amendment allowing Long-term Care Program funds to be invested, passed with more than 57% of the vote. Washington State Democrats joined a bipartisan coalition endorsing this common-sense reform to ensure the long term stability of this crucial safety net for Washington’s current and future senior citizens.
On Veteran’s Day, Grant County Democrats hosted a rally and food drive in honor of veterans and to support the Moses Lake Food Bank. The rally was a strong success, raising nearly $400 and 200 pounds of food for those who need it most. Thank you, Grant County Democrats!

Washington Democrats Fight Back
This week, Washington’s U.S. Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell stood firm against the so-called “deal” to reopen the federal government. They understood that the stakes for 22 million Americans were too high to rely on a pinkie promise from Senate Majority Leader John Thune to hold a vote on extending health care subsidies.
In every corner of the state, Washington Democrats racked up wins. These amazing results reflected the hard work of the candidates, their campaigns, and all of you – the incredible volunteers who power our movement. Thank you to everyone who did the hard work of knocking doors, making phone calls, and activating their neighbors and communities to turn out for Democratic candidates!
House Democrats on the Oversight Committee released sickening emails from convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein that Donald Trump “knew about the girls” and spent hours with one of his victims. Despite Trump’s denials, he knew his close friend Epstein was a pedophile and a predator. Trump’s White House and his Congressional cronies have been bending over backwards to avoid justice, accountability, and transparency for Epstein’s victims. Now that U.S. Representative Adelita Grijalva has finally been sworn in, she will provide the final signature to force a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives to release the Epstein Files.
Attorney General Nick Brown filed a brief with the U.S. Supreme Court to protect Washington’s popular (and effective!) vote-by-mail system. This Supreme Court case coming from Mississippi will have big implications for our state. AG Brown understands how important vote-by-mail is for military families and active duty service members. Secretary of State Steve Hobbs is also working to support the AG’s office and ensure that our democratic rights are protected!
One of the biggest surprises of this past election came out of Sunnyside, where Evaristo Salas Jr. won his school board race. The Democratic-endorsed Evaristo previously spent 27-years in prison for a wrongful conviction. Already mentoring at-risk students, now Evaristo will have a larger platform to help more students and provide strong leadership.
The Working Families Party in Washington state is a tremendous ally in our efforts to elect Democrats up and down the ballot. I was happy to have the opportunity to point out their great work and how our movement functions best when we expand our tent to include everyone whose support we need to elect Democratic candidates who will make our state a better place to live and raise a family.

Don’t let what’s happening in the other Washington distract you from the amazing election we just held in our Washington. Camas, Longview, Sunnyside, Spokane, Yelm, Bellevue – all these communities and more declared loudly that they demand Democratic leaders. Congratulations to all the candidates and campaigns who ran to protect our state from Trump’s overreach and to build prosperity and lower the cost of living for every Washingtonian!
Thanks for all you do,

Chair Shasti Conrad
