WSDCC – November 1, 2024

Posted on November 1, 2024

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

Our success has inspired Democrats across the country, and that’s because of people like you.

Happy Friday, Washington Democrats!

4 days until Election Day! It’s the final countdown!

This is the last few days where we have to make everything count! This week we also had a terrifying reminder of how fragile our democracy is and how critical this time is to uphold the security of our elections.

Vancouver Ballot Tampering

On Monday morning, October 28th, Washington Democrats learned about an attempt to disenfranchise Washington voters through the destruction of ballots at a Vancouver, WA ballot drop box. We encourage anyone who dropped their ballot after 11:00 a.m. AM on Saturday at the Fisher’s Landing dropbox in Vancouver, WA to check the status of their ballot at VoteWA.gov or by calling the Clark County Auditor at 564-397-2345. Anyone who thinks their ballot may have been affected is encouraged to request a replacement ballot.

Washington Democrats trust law enforcement and the Clark County Auditor to find those responsible and hold them accountable. Voting is safe and easy, and Washington state is proud to have one of the most secure elections systems in the country. We take the rights of every voter extremely seriously.

Any Washington voter concerned about the status of their ballot after it has been mailed or turned into an official and secure ballot drop box can check its status at VoteWA.gov or by calling their county’s auditor or elections department to find out where their ballot is in the process of being counted.

Washington Democrats encourage everyone to return their ballot through postage-free mail, via a secure and official ballot drop box, or at an official in-person voting center as soon as possible prior to the 8:00 p.m., November 5th deadline. Anyone with questions about voting or who wants to report suspicious activity regarding our elections is encouraged to call Washington State Democrats’ Voter Protection Hotline at 206-309-VOTE (8683)

Working for Washington

This week’s message is going to be short. Right now, I am on the road – rallying voters and volunteers every day until the election with our candidates in Longview, Vancouver, Spokane, Richland, Yakima, Olympia, Tacoma, Bremerton, Arlington, Bellingham, Everett, Wenatchee, Bothell, Issaquah, Bellevue, Federal Way, and Seattle!

You still have time to join us for the GOTV Tour – come out and help your fellow Democrats win BIG on Tuesday!

As we sprint through the homestretch, I want to convey my deep gratitude to every single person who has powered our campaign. No one knows what’s going to happen on Election Night and the days after. But we DO know that we will have left everything on the field to defend this country that we love so much. Your fellowship throughout this journey has been nothing short of awe-inspiring. Thank you.

We built a Coordinated Campaign to WIN. And they have delivered. 190,000+ door knocks. 1 MILLION dials. Amazing. This is what happens when you ignore the polls and focus on direct voter contacts. Thank you to every Field Organizer, Community Organizer, and Regional Field Director who recruited and inspired volunteers. We built a field team of 30 people and each of you made lasting impacts in Washington state. Christina Carvalho, Brett Andres, Christopher Cooke, Stuart Scofield, Hannah Kurowski: you all did tremendous work leading our Coordinated Campaign for the 2024 cycle. Thank you.

Our State Party is the best in the country because of our incredible Local Party Organization leadership and our staff. I want to thank my Vice Chair, David Green and every single member of the Washington State Democratic Central Committee who donate their time and energy for the betterment of our state and nation. Our candidates who ran in every place and nearly every race have demonstrated their unshakeable commitment to improving our communities, running issues-based campaigns that lay out a winning agenda for all Washingtonians. Thank you.

I could not have led this Party without the support and guidance of our Executive Director, Scott Forbes and the tremendous work of Senior Operations Director Heather Hess, Senior Advisor Maria Oyama Leininger, Senior Political Advisor Drew Estep, Development Director Joe Barden, Director of Communications Stephen Reed, Party Affairs Manager Isabella Maffei, Operations Manager Adrienne Mendoza, Data Director Brett Andres, Events Manager Joelle Robertson, Digital Manager Marie Ann Sabangan, and Kele Isibor who is officially the Office Manager, but basically the person who keeps my head attached to my body.

Finally, I want to thank you – the voters, donors, and volunteers who have made our state such a beautiful place to live and raise our families. Let’s finish this election with everything we’ve got. Now let’s go win this!

Her Closing Statement

I encourage everyone to watch Vice President Harris’ speech from the Ellipses in Washington, D.C. Her closing argument was something to watch. You can do so here.

Update! The host location has developed Strep Throat, so in an abundance of caution, we're going to revert to the Pasco Round Table location. Sorry about the late notice! We do still plan to have our presenter from Save Our Wild Salmon.

As usual at the pizza location, Tri-City Democrats will order several pizzas to share. We'll have the donation box available for those who care to financially support the group. Some of our generous members are likely to purchase pitchers of beer to share. If you want the salad bar or soft drinks, you are on your own for those items.

We have scheduled the 'Save our Wild Salmon' group to come talk to us about the Snake River Dams and we will have 'Hate Has no Home Here' signs available.

    April 11, 2026  9:00 AM - 10:30 AM
Columbia Basin College Gjerde Center 2600 N. 20th Ave., Pasco, WA 99301

Residents of Washington’s 8th Legislative District are invited to attend a town hall meeting with their state lawmakers on Saturday, April 11. Sen. Matt Boehnke, R-Kennewick, Rep. Stephanie Barnard, R-Pasco, and Rep. April Connors, R-Kennewick, will provide an overview of the 2026 legislative session and take questions from attendees.

The meeting will cover key issues, including passage of a new state income tax, capital budget investments, the lawmakers’ opposition to the state’s proposal to site a home for sexually violent predators in Kennewick, and legislation that passed or failed during the 60-day session.

Constituents are encouraged to attend, ask questions and share their perspectives on issues affecting their families and communities.

“We’re looking forward to meeting with constituents, answering questions about the 2026 session, hearing directly about the concerns they want addressed, and discussing how decisions made by the Legislature will affect our district now and in the future,” the lawmakers said.

Does the current water crisis in the Colorado River basin predict the future for Eastern Washington rivers?

    REGISTER HERE

Most experts agree that how our principal river systems are managed will tell the story. Water is essential for continued growth and economic success for the region, which is entering its third consecutive drought year. Reservoir storage in the Cascades is far below average with little sign of recovery.

The federal Bureau of Reclamation's latest water supply forecast says that irrigators in the Yakima Basin may receive less than half of their full entitlement this year. And it's not just Washington's eighty-billion-dollar agriculture industry that depends on water. The rivers provide water for our cities and industry, generate electricity, move all manner of commodities, and provide for our unique quality of life.
