WSDCC Message – July 11, 2025

Posted on July 16, 2025

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

Happy Friday, Washington Democrats!

I hope you all enjoyed a rejuvenating Independence Day with friends and family. I know it can be difficult to remain patriotic and hopeful for the future of our country in the current political moment, but we must never forget what we are fighting for, and how truly great we can be as a country when we stand up for what we believe in.

I hope you will join me in thanking the hundreds of Washingtonians who stood up on Capitol Hill on the 4th to protest Trump’s attacks on immigration, LGBTQ+ rights, and basic freedoms. This is what loving our country looks like – and it is all of our responsibility to speak out and stand strong for our Democratic values!

And now that summer is in full swing, we are less than a month away from the August Primary Election. Stay tuned for opportunities to get involved and help get out the vote for terrific Democrats statewide!

Working for Washington

We’re proud to report that we held a very successful People’s Town Hall in Spokane on Monday, June 30th!

Over 100 Washingtonians came out to hear Washington Democratic champion, Rep. Pramilla Jayapal, and other local Democratic leaders discuss what matters most to them. The energy was electric, the room was packed, and one thing’s for sure: we can tell these People’s Town Hall events are having an impact and getting folks fired up.

We’re shining a light on the real impacts of Trump’s extremist policies, from attacks on immigrants and threats to birthright citizenship, to the GOP’s plan to rip health insurance away from 626,000 Washingtonians – and we’re putting pressure on Republicans who think they can get away with it!

Thanks to your help, we’re organizing, we’re educating, and we’re empowering people to take action – let’s keep it up!

Next Town Hall – Pasco on 7/14!

And we’re not stopping there – we’re thrilled to host our next People’s Town Hall in Pasco, this coming Monday (7/14)! This town hall will feature AG Nick Brown and focus on the Trump administration’s illegal power grabs, ongoing threats to democracy, and what Washington state is doing to fight back against Washington, D.C.

Date: Monday, July 14, 2025

Time: 5:30 PM

Location: HAPO Center, 6600 Burden Blvd, Pasco, WA 99301

RSVP Online Here!

We’re working hard to make this our biggest, best town hall yet so please consider attending if you live nearby (or if you don’t!) – and help us spread the word!

Trump Budget – Impacts on WA

Republican Senators once again failed to stand up for Washingtonians, caving and passing Donald Trump’s disastrous billionaire-first budget. This vote is shameful and will hurt Americans in every state. Their budget will ‘actively transfer’ money from the poorest Washingtonians to the richest among us. It won’t make life better for Washingtonians, it will rob them of their health insurance, take food off the table, and kill good-paying jobs — all to line the pockets of the GOP’s billionaire donors. Trump’s budget is nothing short of an attack on working families across Washington state — and Democrats in Washington are mobilizing to hold Republicans accountable everywhere because the stakes have never been higher.

Unions are warning this is the “biggest job-killing bill in the history of the country.” If it is signed into law, it will threaten 1.75 million construction jobs and 2 million clean energy jobs all to fund another round of tax handouts for billionaire GOP donors.

Low-income families stand to lose hundreds if not thousands of dollars in income while wealthy ones will gain even more, according to a new analysis of Congressional Republican tax and budget proposals.

  • This bill cuts $1.3 trillion in food assistance and health coverage while giving the wealthy that exact amount in tax breaks
  • The poorest 20% of Americans will lose 3.8% of their income while the richest 20% will see their incomes increase by 3.7%
  • Adds $3.25 trillion to the national debt, while revenues fall by $4.47 trillion
  • Increases energy bills by hundreds of dollars across the country
  • Endangers our communities by making it easier to buy dangerous firearms and silencers

We cannot stand and accept the fact that Republicans are putting Washingtonians’ health care, food assistance, and jobs on the chopping block:

  • Republicans cut over $1 trillion from Medicaid — ripping away health care from 626,000 Washingtonians and threatening coverage for 1.86 Million Washingtonians
  • 14 Washington hospitals are at risk of closing — ripping away access to critical emergency medical care for millions of Americans
  • At least 1 in 4 nursing homes will have to close their doors, and over half of nursing homes will be forced to cut staff
  • 888,300 Washingtonians are at risk of losing food assistance, forcing working families and children to go hungry

This bill is a direct attack on vulnerable populations in Washington State and nationwide that makes almost everyone worse off. We must stand up, speak out, and fight back every day to protect everyday Americans and resist the GOP’s toxic and damaging agenda.

Washingtonians may see credit score boost as medical debt removed from reports, KXLY

Ferguson calls One Big Beautiful Bill a ‘grotesque betrayal’, The Spokesman Review

The passage of the “One Big Beautiful Bill” late last week capped off months of challenging negotiations by federal lawmakers, marking the first major legislative win of the second Trump administration. However, while federal Republican lawmakers celebrated in a Fourth of July ceremony at the White House, many state lawmakers have long worried about what the bill could mean for the budgets of Washingtonians already struggling to make ends meet, including the state itself.

Must Watch: Impacts of Trump Bill Are Devastating, says Rep. DelBene, Bloomberg Television

Suzan DelBene, democrat congresswoman from Washington and chair of the DCCC, says that potential cuts to Medicaid and nutritional assistance in the Trump tax bill could spur backlash and allow Democrats to retake control of the House in the midterm elections.

What I’m Watching

Check out this great episode of Endless Urgency with Mike Nellis featuring DNC Chair Ken Martin!

Ken consistently brings great ideas and thoughtful, effective leadership to our Party, and I’ve really appreciated the opportunity to work closely with him both as WA State Party Chair and now as DNC Vice Chair.

He touches on the state of our democracy, Trump’s horrendous budget, how the Democratic Party can (and must) show up differently in 2025 and 2026 – I hope you will give it a watch!

Thanks for all you do,

Chair Shasti Conrad

**In Zillah, we don’t put up with would-be kings. Come out and let your neighbors know they aren’t alone.

Our peaceful movement is only getting bigger and stronger. “NO KINGS” is more than just a slogan—it’s the foundation our nation was built upon. Born in the streets, carried by millions in chants and on posters, it echoes from city blocks to rural town squares, uniting people across this country to fight dictatorship together.

The president thinks his rule is absolute. But in America, we don’t have kings, and we won’t back down against chaos, corruption, and cruelty. Grow our movement and join us.

A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events.
