MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR
It’s Friday, Washington Democrats!
Happy AANHPI Heritage Month
Here’s the statement I released with DNC Chair Ken Martin and DNC AAPI Caucus Chair Bel Leong-Hong to mark AANHPI Heritage Month:
“Throughout our country’s history, generations of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders have contributed their skills, values, and talents to make our nation great. Today, they are the fastest-growing demographic group and are a central part of the Democratic Party’s coalition.
“As we honor the legacy of AANHPI trailblazers who came before, Democrats will continue to stand up for critical programs that care for the elderly, educate our children, ensure our safety, provide affordable health care and housing, and benefit small business owners and working families alike. We will keep fighting to bring sanity and humanity to our nation’s immigration enforcement as we work to end discrimination and xenophobia in all of their forms.
“AANHPI voters have been critical in notching Democratic wins across the country — especially in electing Governors Mike Sherill and Abigail Spanberger, as well as protecting fair elections in Virginia. We will always protect the sacred right to vote as we strive to elect Democratic champions who reflect the incredible diversity and lived experience of the AANHPI community.”
Working for Washington

Filing week ENDS TODAY! Please consider strengthening our party by becoming a Precinct Committee Officer. Precinct Committee Officers or PCOs are the on-the-ground neighborhood party officials who help us contact voters and vote on endorsements in their Legislative Districts and County Parties. They can even help appoint legislators when there’s a vacancy. Even if your precinct already has a PCO, you can serve as an acting or appointed PCO for a nearby precinct that doesn’t have one. When filing week begins, you file to run for PCO here. You have until 5PM TONIGHT!
Last weekend, I was honored to join the Snohomish County Democrats at the Labor Temple in Everett, Washington. At their meeting, Snohomish County Democrats overwhelmingly endorsed U.S. Representative Rick Larsen and U.S. Representative Suzan DelBene for re-election. Snohomish County has a lot of opportunities for Democrats to gain ground. I’m proud of the SnoCo Democrats who are putting in the work to turn the red parts of their county purple and the purple parts blue. Keep it up!
Thank you to everyone who took part in the “No School, No Work, No Shopping” May Day rally and action. In Seattle, Washington Democrats joined thousands of marchers to protest the Trump administration, fight for strong worker protections, and support our siblings in organized labor. It was a beautiful day for a march. Nothing says “spring has sprung” like solidarity with workers and fighting for civil liberties!
This week, I was in Arizona at the DNC’s NextWave Boot Camp to train the next generation of political operatives using the lessons we helped battle test in Washington state last year. These volunteers traveled from around the country to learn about what’s working in this Washington. I was proud of their passion and commitment to helping us retake the West and build Democratic power around the country.
Democrats Fight Back
Hundreds of South Sound families will be getting help to preserve their affordable housing thanks to the efforts of U.S. Representative Marilyn Strickland. As more and more families are priced out of the region, investments like these are crucial to helping families stay in their homes and make life more affordable by making these homes more energy efficient. Thank you, Congresswoman Strickland, for fighting for affordability in our communities!
U.S. Representative Marie Gluesenkamp Perez cut red tape for childcare providers, ensuring kids have access to healthier nutrition in the process. The “banana bill” changed regulations for childcare providers that receive federal funding to allow the minimal preparation of fruits and vegetables. Passing this common sense solution to help kids have access to healthy foods was no easy lift in this dysfunctional Republican Congress. Thank you, Congresswoman Gluesenkamp Perez for your leadership in keeping our children healthy!
Washington’s own Congresswoman Suzan DelBene was on the Endless Urgency Substack Live for an interview with Mike Nellis. She discussed the DCCC’s decision to add 8 more Congressional Districts to the Red to Blue program that will help us flip control of the U.S. House of Representatives. The whole interview is worth a watch. Check it out here!
While a court in Louisiana overturned decades of precedent and ignored science to rule that abortion medication should not be sent through the mail, the U.S. Supreme Court stayed that decision until they could issue a ruling. This is by no means a slam dunk for reproductive rights, which is why I am so thankful our state continues to be a haven for science-based reproductive healthcare. I was interviewed on this issue, which you can view here.

Yours truly is quoted in this article on the need for Democrats to fight fire with fire when it comes to redistricting. Washington state has 11 seats in the state legislature from a Democratic supermajority, which is required to get the ball rolling on drawing new Congressional Districts.
Thanks for all you do,
