Friend,
I’m about to ask you to chip in $7 or any amount to fight back against the latest WA Republican voter suppression scheme.
But first, a quick overview:
I’m proud that Washington state has the best voter registration laws and the most secure and convenient voting system in the country.
But Jim Walsh, the extreme right-wing chair of the Washington Republican Party, absolutely HATES it.
He’s been telling lies and spreading fear about our voter registration process for years, and his party has fought hard against any measure to make voting easier for Washingtonians.
Now, Walsh is calling on the election deniers in the Trump administration to back him up. He just introduced a measure calling on Trump’s Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate our state’s voter registration process.
Why call in the federal government to stick their noses in our business? The same old unfounded claims of non-citizens voting — which Republicans all over the country use as an excuse to make voting harder.
(It doesn’t seem to matter to Walsh that you already have to prove your citizenship to register to vote.)
Look, if I lost state elections as much as Jim Walsh and Washington Republicans, I’d be mad too. But instead of making it harder to vote, maybe they should come up with some ideas that actually appeal to voters. Just a thought!
Thank you so much,
— Chair Shasti Conrad
