There’s still a lot of work to do in order to tilt races towards Democrats in November, but as voters continue to sour on the Trump-Vance economy, the August primary results could have the makings of the first ripples that come before a blue wave.
In each of the fully Republican-controlled LDs 12, 14, 25, and 35, Democrats have at least one race where our candidates combined to earn at least 49% of the ballots cast. LD14 was particularly notable, given its history of favoring Republicans in midterm elections.
Now, Republicans will be forced to divert resources to protect seats that are traditionally safe for them.
Turnout was lower than in the last 3 primaries. But Democrats held a turnout advantage across every group of voters based on recent primary participation.
These numbers don’t determine what happens in November. But they do provide an important snapshot of the electorate heading into the general election, and show that several traditionally Republican districts could see competitive races this fall.
Now, we can’t leave the Dem momentum here. We need to make sure every Democrat is out there, getting their vote out come November. All our hard work these last couple of years comes down to the general. Let’s do this.
