In case you haven’t heard, we’re taking Meta to court.
Washington is one of 29 states standing together to hold Meta accountable for allegedly putting profits ahead of children’s safety.
The case states that Meta knowingly designed Facebook and Instagram to drive compulsive use among children and teens, while misleading parents and the public about the risks. It also alleges that Meta illegally collected personal information from children under 13 without obtaining the parental consent required by federal law.
After years of trying to stop this case from going to trial, Meta has run out of roadblocks.
Now, we’re in court.
Social media can have its benefits. But it also has a dark side. People across Washington are deeply concerned about the effects social media can have on our kids. That’s why we’re standing up to one of the most powerful companies in the world and demanding that it follow the law.
We’ve also been working to pass a bill in the legislature to protect kids online. It didn’t pass last session, but that won’t deter us from continuing to push for a bill.
This kind of fight takes leadership at every level, and it takes a strong Washington Democratic Party to keep electing leaders who will stand up to powerful corporations and fight for Washington families. Will you chip in $15 or whatever you can today to support the Washington State Democrats?
