“You’re a queer Latina who works at Planned Parenthood. Don’t you think you’re too much for your district?”
That’s the “advice” from a political operative as I first considered running for office. I was furious — not just for myself, but for the 400,000 LGBTQIA+ Washingtonians. Were we all “too much”?
That interaction lit a fire under me. Not only did I run — I defeated a MAGA Republican and flipped a competitive State Senate district. Last year, my colleagues elected me Deputy Majority Leader.
Now, I’m the Democrat running for Congress in Washington’s 6th Congressional District against an anti-abortion Republican — and I need your help to hold this critical open seat.
If I win, I’ll be the first openly LGBTQIA+ person to represent Washington in Congress. I’ll also be the first queer Latina elected to Congress from anywhere in the country — and I’ll bring the voices of working-class people and marginalized people into the halls of power.
But it won’t be easy.
The Washington Republican Party admits that flipping the 6th District is a priority for them, and they’ve already started launching attacks and insults against me.
Together, we can send a message that ALL are welcome in Washington. Together, we can reject the division and bigotry of the MAGA movement.
Thank you so much 💙
