Today, Congress will vote ONCE AGAIN on H.R. 9495—a bill that would give Trump and his allies unprecedented power to dismantle nonprofits that challenge him.
This bill is a direct attack on our democracy and ability to resist MAGA fascism.
H.R. 9495 was defeated last week in a parliamentary procedure requiring a two-thirds majority, but Republicans are plotting a second attempt to push it through today.
We need to ensure they don’t have the votes to pass this dangerous bill.
As a reminder, here’s why H.R. 9495 is so dangerous:
🚩 Unchecked Power: Trump and his Treasury Department would have sweeping authority to label U.S. nonprofits as “terrorist-supporting organizations”—no oversight, no due process, just unilateral power.
🚩Political Targeting: Under this bill, nonprofits advocating for human rights, environmental protection, reproductive rights, and other critical issues could lose their tax-exempt status simply for opposing Trump’s Project 2025 agenda.
🚩Chilling Effect: This broad and vague authority could intimidate organizations and stifle advocacy work. Nonprofits would risk financial ruin just for standing up for our basic rights and freedoms.
