On June 24, 2022, thousands of women and feminists from around the country went to WeWontGoBack.com to find an action to attend on the day the Dobbs decision was announced. Protesters spontaneously showed up to hundreds of snap actions across the country to demonstrate against this horrific attack on human rights.
This year, a grassroots campaign to protest again on June 24 sprung up on TikTok. Women’s March did not call for a strike. Most of our time and resources are committed to other work. But we saw the dozens of new event submissions pouring into the Women’s March map, and we had a decision to make.
Do we ignore this wildfire campaign that unexpectedly popped up? Do we say, “Sorry, we didn’t account for this in our work plan” and ask the organizers to fall in line with one of our officially planned activities? Hell no. We support the women-led organizing that is taking place organically.
So over the past month, our tiny team has been working overtime to update the map infrastructure, moderate submissions, and put together resources and support for action hosts who want to mobilize on June 24, 2024 for another day of action.
Power-hungry people who view women and children as their personal property think they can beat us into submission, literally and figuratively. Christian nationalist, white supremacist, MAGA extremists believe that if they pass enough anti-democratic laws that criminalize us and humiliate us, they can bend us to their will.
But what they don’t understand is that they can’t reverse the social and cultural change that has already taken place. We will never submit. We will not comply. We won’t retreat. We won’t surrender. We won’t go back.
What we do now will set the foundation for the next four to five decades. #WeWontGoBack. We WILL go forward… in the fight, forward to freedom, forward to our feminist future.
In struggle,
