As the month comes to a close, the Washington Families for Freedom team wants to be direct with you.
Right now, LGBTQ+ students across this country are under attack. Federal health officials have announced new rules that would effectively block access to gender-affirming care for young people — taking decisions out of the hands of families and doctors.
At the same time, here in Washington, extremist millionaire Brian Heywood is trying to push two dangerous initiatives onto the ballot that would further undermine student safety, privacy, and dignity in our schools.
These attacks are connected. They are part of a broader effort to target LGBTQ+ students and roll back protections that help them learn, grow, and stay safe.
That’s why this moment matters so much.
We are $7,500 away from reaching our end-of-month goal, and closing that gap will determine whether we can fully fund our rapid response effort to stop Brian Heywood’s harmful initiatives before they ever reach the ballot.
Donate and help us close the gap!
Brian Heywood is pouring millions of dollars of out-of-state hedge fund money into paid signature gathering across Washington. His goal is simple: buy his way onto the ballot with initiatives that would force outing, lead to invasive exams for girls participating in school sports, and erode trust between students and the adults meant to protect them.
Our rapid response is how we fight back in real time. It’s the organizing, outreach, and on-the-ground work that ensures families know the truth before they sign their support for these harmful initiatives, and that Washington remains a place where students are supported, not targeted.
We know this strategy is working. His campaign is still tens of thousands of signatures short. But if we fall short tonight, Brian Heywood has the personal wealth to keep his operation running. We don’t. We rely on people like you.
Every dollar counts, and every day matters. Your contribution — whether it’s $25, $100, or more — directly supports the rapid response that is slowing signature collection, protecting vulnerable students, and keeping these initiatives off the ballot where they belong.
This is a moment when grassroots action can still beat millionaire money, but only if we act together before the clock runs out.
Thank you for standing up for Washington’s students and families when they need it most.
