Washington Families for Freedom is a coalition of parents, teachers, students, and community members working to ensure every child in Washington can learn, grow, and feel safe in school.
We urgently need your help to take on extremist millionaire Brian Heywood, who is using out-of-state paid signature gatherers to promote two poorly written initiatives ((IL26-001, IL26-638), that will threaten the safety of every Washington student, putting some students at greater risk of abuse at home and at school through possible invasive genital exams, forced outing, and restricted access to help when they need it most.
They began collecting signatures in September. To reach the ballot, his campaign needs roughly 380,000 valid signatures by January 2, and they are currently tens of thousands of signatures away.
These numbers show something important: we are succeeding in slowing them down. BUT if Brian Heywood spends enough of his own money to keep his paid signature-gatherers on the streets, and if we don’t boost our own organizing capacity right now, we risk losing this fight. He’s already put in nearly $2 million of his own wealth, made from hedge funds, to pay for signatures.
