The Washington Institute for a Democratic Future (WAIDF) is now accepting applications for its 2026 Fellowship Class!

In times of chaos, we organize. Because it takes all of us to build a better future and create an ecosystem of leaders in politics, business, government, and public service, working together for progress.

WAIDF is a premier leadership development program that has prepared more than 700 leaders for careers in public service, politics, advocacy, and civic engagement across Washington state and beyond. Fellows spend six months learning directly from policymakers, community leaders, and experts while building a strong, lifelong network of peers and providing the tools and knowledge to mobilize. 

What we’re looking for:

Applicants between the ages of 21 and 39 who are passionate about civic engagement, equity, and community leadership. Ideal candidates possess a combination of professional or volunteer achievements, unique life experiences, and a strong desire to contribute to Washington’s civic and political life.

How to apply:

The application includes a resume, personal statement, and letters of recommendation, with select candidates invited to interview in early December. Our process is designed to highlight your leadership potential, community connections, and commitment to equity.

Let’s go! Join WAIDF as we channel our anger and build power by cheering on the Seahawks, Sunday, September 21. 

We have a new coach, new quarterback, new cheerleaders and new opportunities for a shutout this fall! And we’re not just talking about football.

Here’s the game plan:

• Kickoff: 1:05 p.m.
• Tickets: Sent to you the week of the game
• Pre-game meetup: Olympic Hall (near the Pro Shop) two hours before kickoff (11:05 a.m.—food, drinks, photos, and networking with the WAIDF crew

WAIDF heads to battleground Arizona – Join Us!🌵✈️

We’re back, baby — and we’re taking WAIDF’s Extended Learning Program to the battleground state of Arizona! Join an intimate group of no more than 15 alums, friends and partners for three days of leadership, learning, and laughs in the Grand Canyon State.

What to Expect:

• Deep dives with Arizona leaders on labor, environment, immigration, education, infrastructure & more
• Connections with Indigenous voices, organizers, and political pros on the ground
• Networking, tacos, desert sunsets, and (yes) pool time
• Great food, fabulous tours, and unforgettable company

Trip Details:

• When: November 13 – 16, 2025 (Programming starts on Friday, Nov. 14)
• Who: WAIDF supporters, friends, partners and of course, alumni (15 spots max!)
• Hotel: ~$250/night, union-friendly option or choose your own stay
• Flights: Attendees book individually
• Cost: $25 application fee added to total hotel fees (single/double occupancy available)
