When times get tough, come together. Now is a great time to reconnect as we hear from a stellar panel of local political experts. Come reflect and gather takeaways with Washington State Democrats Chair Shasti Conrad, seasoned political consultants Crystal Fincher and Sandeep Kaushik, and cultural leader Colleen Echohawk, moderated by the Honorable Jeanne Kohl-Welles.

Because you’re a part of your local LD, use the code 37THDEMS for a $10 discount on your ticket!

P.S. Comes with a drink and free access to a taco/nacho bar!!

For those whom the travel is too far, “online” tickets get you livestream access.

WAIDF accepting late fellowship applications

We can’t give up on the futures we dream of, which means we can’t give up on continuing to build up the people who can make it happen and we can’t give up continuing to invite more folks into the fold. We’re here–and each of us all participated in this program–to make positive change possible together.

That’s why we (Washington State Institute for a Democratic Future, or WAIDF) spearhead a fellowship to provide aspiring progressives with the knowledge and tools to make change. Fellows travel across our state every other weekend (and to Washington, D.C.) to gain a comprehensive view of how policy is made, explore the different levels of power and influence in our political and governmental systems across different regions, and see the direct impacts of policy on the ground in our many communities.

Applicants must be between 21 and 39 years old. The extended deadline to apply is November 19th. We can be reached at info@democraticfuture.org for any questions.

We encourage asking an employer and/or union to cover the cost of the fellowship for professional development. Better yet, for those without even that option, our board and alumni do significant work to bolster up a scholarship fund to alleviate financial barriers

If this makes you think of anyone who should apply, be sure to let them know!

With an impending Project 2025 Trump administration, it’s perhaps the best time for folks to join spaces like WAIDF, foster deep connections with shared ideals and make connections even amid some differences. If nothing else, it’s clear we all have to continuously get outside of our bubbles and beyond establishment in order to successfully push for change.

In December, Spot the AI Deepfake

This is our first of a salon series, all on different topics aimed to help us understand what’s going on around us.

For this fully virtual December event, we’ll hear from one of our very own, Pamela Cortez (Class of 2024), and Seth Reznik, whose team has presented to the DNC and governments around the world. These two AI experts will show deepfake examples and discuss:

  • overlap with gender and impact
  • how deepfakes are made
  • how we can detect and respond; and
  • how to protect campaigns and constituents.
