It’s essential to know about the guaranteed rights protecting the fundamental humanity of everyone living in the United States, regardless of immigration status.
Whether you’re at home or out in public, you have rights that law enforcement or immigration agents cannot take away. Here’s what to remember if you or your loved ones find yourselves in a situation dealing with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or law enforcement:
- Don’t open the door. If someone arrives at your home stating they belong to an agency above, you are not required to let them in. Always communicate through a closed door or window and demand to see a court-issued warrant before taking any other action. Without a warrant signed by a judge or your permission, no officials may enter your home.
- Remain silent and do not sign anything. You have the right to remain silent — just say out loud that you will not answer any questions or sign anything without an attorney present. This will protect you from being forced to share information or sign documents that you may not understand.
- Record and document everything. You have the right to take photos, record video, and write down any details from the encounter.

Es importante conocer los derechos que protegen la humanidad de todos los que viven en los Estados Unidos, independientemente de su estatus migratorio.
Ya sea en su casa o en un lugar público, usted tiene derechos que las autoridades o los agentes de inmigración no pueden quitarle. Esto es lo que debe recordar si usted o sus seres queridos se encuentran en una situación relacionada con la migra (ICE, por sus siglas en inglés) o con la policía:
- No abra la puerta. Si alguien llega a su hogar diciendo que pertenece a una de las autoridades mencionadas, no está obligado a dejarles entrar. Comuníquese siempre a través de una puerta o ventana cerrada y exija ver una orden judicial antes de hacer otra cosa. - Grabe y documente todo. Tiene derecho a tomar fotos, grabar vídeos y anotar cualquier detalle del incidente.
