WA Immigrant Solidarity Network – October 8, 2025

Posted on October 8, 2025

[Español Abajo]

This Hispanic Heritage Month, we want to honor and remember not just who we are, but also all that we continue to strive for.

Across the country, we’re witnessing an intensifying wave of federal immigration enforcement. These policies, no longer hiding their roots in xenophobia¹, are meant to racially target, criminalize, and dehumanize Spanish speaking and Latin American communities.

But these are not new threats, they are part of a long legacy of structural violence enforced through detention and incarceration, ICE raids, and militarized borders. This system threatens to push our community’s voices and stories to the margins, and it’s because of that that we’re committed to keeping them alive and visible.

WAISN is proud to have origins and sustained leadership of queer and trans Latinx immigrant experiences who believe in building a world where all of us can be supported, respected, and free. This vision of justice is not just about inclusion, it’s about building fairer systems where every one of us can truly thrive.

Because we know that our lives, our stories, and our families matter. We come from people who have survived colonization, war, dictatorship, and displacement. We carry with us legacies that defy erasure, and every one of the diverse voices that make up the Latinx community—queer, trans, Afro-Latinx, indigenous, immigrant—are what make it vibrant, resilient, and beautiful.

As we honor our cultures, join us in uplifting those who are refusing to let our stories be erased. Across Washington, Latinx-led organizations are offering support, education, healing, and community in the face of systemic violence—and they need our support:

  • Comunidades works to increase the participation and leadership of Latinos in the Columbia River Gorge through leadership development and civic engagement.
  • Entre Hermanos promotes the health and well-being of the Latino Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and questioning community through disease prevention, education, support services, advocacy and community building.
  • Firelands is made up of working people joining together to make our rural WA communities healthy, vibrant places to grow up and raise a family now and for generations to come.
  • Pacific County Immigrant Support provides assistance and advocates for immigrants in Southwest Washington.
  • Mujeres in Action (M.i.A) provides support for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, and educates our community from a Latine perspective to eliminate family violence.
  • Unidos Nuevos Alianza protects and promotes the rights of immigrants, Latinx, and underrepresented communities.

Hispanic Heritage Month is a reminder that our stories are sacred, our lives are political, and our future is collective.

En comunidad,

Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network

[ENGLISH ABOVE]

Since the Covid-19 pandemic, support for public health policies has gradually declined. At the federal level certain policies and practices regarding vaccines have been thrown into question.

Vaccine proponents note the long-time and widespread benefits of the traditional MMR vaccine; vaccine skeptics generally insist it causes autism. Some say the approval process (Operation Warp Speed for Covid-19) was either rushed or rigged; others say the process was instrumental in reducing suffering and saved the lives of millions of people.
