WA Immigrant Solidarity Network – October 30, 2025

Posted on October 30, 2025

[Español Abajo]

We want to thank you for attending our General Meeting this month! Our monthly General Meeting allows community members from across Washington to share their experiences, discuss strategies for empowering their own local communities, and give us an opportunity to involve directly affected people in our strategic decision-making processes.

Just in case you missed it or if you had any questions, here is a brief summary of the most important points we discussed and ways you can get involved:

Policy and Advocacy

JOIN US for our next Community Advocacy Meeting. We know the path of organizing for immigrant justice is a struggle. Let’s continue creating places of belonging and advocacy for a truly inclusive state for all Washingtonians, regardless of immigrant status.

What: Community Advocacy Meeting
When: Tuesday, November 4th, 2025 6pm
Where: Zoom

JOIN US

Mark your calendar: IRAD 2026 is just around the corner! Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Day (IRAD) is our largest annual event committed to collective learning and action in the name of immigrant and refugee justice. IRAD Pre-registration for WAISN members will begin on November 10th, and general registration will open on December 10th!

Deportation Defense Hotline

Save, share and use the WAISN Deportation Defense Hotline number—1-844-724-3737.

Call or text the Hotline 6am to 6pm, Monday to Friday to learn more about the rights that protect all Washingtonians, get support for detained persons, report immigration activity, request accompaniment to vulnerable locations, and to get connected with over 1400 immigration and community resources. Our Hotline organizers speak English and Spanish, and we offer interpretation in nearly 300 languages.

This month we talked about the importance of first-hand reports because they are most likely to have the information we need to activate a Rapid Response team to verify, document, and support. Details are crucial when documenting violations of civil and criminal rights or violations of Keep Washington Working (KWW) and allow us to elevate cases to our coalition partners and electeds. Our rumor control flyer has information about what to look for when making a report:

LEARN MORE

We also dove into the term “Deportation Defense” (DD), which represents an intentional reclamation of language normally used in legal contexts. And at its core, DD is about care, solidarity and accountability for the safety and well-being of immigrants. At WAISN it shows up in many ways, including through the Hotline, our network of Rapid Response and Accompaniment volunteers, and the Fair Fight Bond Fund. It also shows up as the Know Your Rights information and vital community resources we share.

To keep up to date on immigration enforcement activity, follow us on social media, where we share regular updates about the activity reported through the Hotline and verified by our Rapid Response Teams.

Do you know what to do if ICE comes to your home or workplace? Come and learn that and more at one of our upcoming Know Your Rights Trainings:

Rapid Response

This month, we made explicit how Rapid Response is not mass mobilization and shared a statement from WAISN Executive Director Catalina Velasquez: “Rapid response is about protecting our neighbors in real time, and centering their safety, dignity, and autonomy. Mass mobilization has power, but when misaligned, it can turn immigrant lives into symbols for someone else’s outrage, and give the federal government cover to expand deportation efforts. We must be strategic and respond with nonviolence, not because we lack rage, but because we cannot afford to lose the ground immigrant organizers fought to build for decades. Solidarity with immigrants means listening, respecting immigrants’ agency, and showing up in ways that serve, not overshadow. We must continue building a strong, connected, and just world together. We must commit daily to collective care, defense, and justice.”

We invited attendees to share how they are practicing and witnessing Rapid Response in their communities and heard powerful stories of mutual aid, care, vigilance, and accountability from across the state.

You can also join us for a Rapid Response Training workshop to learn more about existing rapid response networks that support impacted families, build community resistance in the face of mass detention and deportation, and hold immigration agencies accountable for how they are showing up in our communities:

On September 11 and 12, almost 300 Rapid Response and Accompaniment volunteers, WAISN members, Steering Committee members, and WAISN Legal Round Table members from across the state came together for our first ever Deportation Defense Convening. Under the slogan Rooted Resistance, we started organizing for community-led deportation defense cases: working with impacted families to exert pressure at key points in the detention pipeline to try to get a detained person released.

WAISN facilitators led sessions on:

  • Mapping the Deportation Pipeline
  • Deportation Defense 101: Community-Led Casework
  • Scenario planning
  • Panel Discussion with 4 organizers from across the state experienced in DD casework
  • Relationship building: basebuilding with community members and coalition building
  • Powermapping

Community Resources and Membership

We are excited to share that we now have twelve active accompaniment volunteer teams across Washington — a huge accomplishment that reflects how our network has grown in both capacity and commitment.

We currently have 186 vetted volunteers who are ready to respond, accompany community members to court hearings, ICE check-ins, and other critical appointments. This growth means more families and individuals are not facing these moments alone — they have someone standing beside them in solidarity.

To request Accompaniment Support call the Deportation Defense Hotline —1-844-724-3737. If you are unable to connect with us please send a text message stating you need accompaniment and ensure you include the day of accompaniment needed and the best number to reach you.

Save the date: Accompaniment Volunteer Training is coming up! On November 12, we will be hosting a virtual training, open to anyone who wants to support our immigrant and refugee communities as an accompaniment volunteer. Stay connected — we’ll be sharing more details soon, including the exact time and registration link.

If you are part of an organization fighting for immigrant justice, we want to invite you to join WAISN as an official organizational member! WAISN Organizational Membership is a statewide and intersectional paid membership model where your organizational superpowers and capacity can both support immigrant justice and receive support from the entire WAISN network.

General Meeting

Our general meeting is the third Thursday of every month, please join us on November 20 for the next one!

In solidarity,

The Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network

P.S. If you witness immigration activity, raids and detentions in Washington, please call the WAISN Deportation Defense Hotline at 1-844-724-3737. We have organizers available Monday through Friday from 6am to 6pm to take your call. Our organizers speak Spanish and English, and we have interpretation available in nearly 300 languages.

[ENGLISH ABOVE]

¡ÚNASE A NOSOTROS!

Since the Covid-19 pandemic, support for public health policies has gradually declined. At the federal level certain policies and practices regarding vaccines have been thrown into question.

Vaccine proponents note the long-time and widespread benefits of the traditional MMR vaccine; vaccine skeptics generally insist it causes autism. Some say the approval process (Operation Warp Speed for Covid-19) was either rushed or rigged; others say the process was instrumental in reducing suffering and saved the lives of millions of people.

    Whistle Workshop & Learning Event

    December 12, 2025  10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Richland Public Library, Conf Room B, 955 Northgate Dr, Richland, WA

📣Our Voices United is sharing whistle safety packs as a simple, but powerful, grassroots tool that helps communities stay alert and protect each other. Indivisible Tri-Cities is joining in to help promote this campaign and support local outreach.

🧊These whistles create instant signals when ICE activity is nearby, helping neighbors gather quickly, record what's happening, and stand with anyone who may be approached. Join us this Friday to learn more!

🎶Different whistle patterns can signal urgent moments, like ICE being in the area or someone being detained. This gives those nearby a way to respond that's faster than social media and doesn't rely on being on your phone all the time.

🛡️Though it's a small tool, it helps combat quiet threats by creating visible community action, solidarity, and support. When we come together in efforts like this, our collective strength grows.

  • Family Meeting: Child Care & the Washington State Budget Emergency

Family Meeting: Child Care & the Washington State Budget Emergency

    December 16, 2025  6:30 PM - 7:30 PM
    https://www.mobilize.us/mobilize/event/873403/

Organizing for a brighter future for Washington families in 2026 starts now! It’s time to huddle up and make a 2026 game plan for protecting child care during the Washington state budget crisis.

Join SEIU 925, Children's Campaign Fund Action, and MomsRising for a virtual Family Meeting: Child Care & the State Budget Emergency.

Our state is in a budget crisis, and we know most of our families are too. We’re calling a family meeting to learn about what’s at stake and to co-create the budget solutions that will lift all families.

Together, we'll get up to speed about the state of the 2026 state budget and how budget choices will impact moms, families, caregivers, and workers in our state. We'll hear from leaders from across Washington state, including Senator Claire Wilson, Senator Emily Alvarado, Representative Mary Fosse, and leaders from SEIU 925 and MomsRising.

We hope you can join us in getting organized and informed so we can hit the ground running in early 2026! Make sure to RSVP so you receive the Zoom link once it's available.
