WA Immigrant Solidarity Network – March 13, 2025

Posted on March 13, 2025

[Español Abajo]

This is Israel Gonzalez, WAISN’s Rapid Response Organizer, and I want to thank you for attending our General Meeting last month! This meeting allows community members from across Washington to share their experiences, discuss strategies for empowering their own local communities, and give us an opportunity to involve directly affected people in our strategic decision-making processes.

Just in case you missed it or if you had any questions, here is a brief summary of the most important points we discussed and ways you can get involved:

We are hiring!

Digital Organizer – WAISN is looking for a Digital Organizer responsible for implementing a social media strategy to educate, provide resources, and mobilize WAISN’s audiences through our social media platforms.

Deportation Defense Hotline

Save, share and use the WAISN Deportation Defense Hotline: 1-844-724-3737.

Call the Hotline to learn more about the rights that protect all Washingtonians, get support for detained persons, report immigration activity, request accompaniment to vulnerable locations, and to get connected with other immigration and community resources.

Our hours are 6am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. If you cannot get through to an operator (or outside these hours), to report a detention or immigration activity, or to request accompaniment, send a text message to the Hotline number. We will return the call as soon as possible. We ALWAYS give priority to detentions, accompaniment requests and reports of immigration activity.

Tips for Reporting Immigration Activity

If you call the Hotline to report immigration activity, the following information is crucial to helping us understand if people’s rights are being violated:

  • Who: If possible, the person seeing the activity should call the Hotline. First-hand reports give us a clearer picture of the activity.
  • Who are the agents with: ICE, CBP …? Are they wearing uniforms or vests? Are there vehicles on scene? What identification is on the uniforms or vehicles?
  • What are the agents doing? Are they stopping people and asking questions? Is someone being detained? If you talked to them, what did they say they were doing?
  • When: Is the activity still happening? Are the agents still in the area?

Where: What is the exact location? Are the agents inside a building or outside? If it feels safe for you to do so, can you stay on the scene to observe until a Rapid Response team arrives to verify?

Organizing

Our Rapid Response teams continue to grow! If you have signed up to be part of a team, please be patient, we have a long list of people. Below are the counties where we have a team.

Want to be a part of a Rapid Response team? Join us for an upcoming virtual training on Saturday March 29 from 12pm-2pm!

Deportation Defense

Need Support for an Immigration Appointment or Court Hearing?

Our Accompaniment Program provides companionship and support for immigrant community members attending immigration appointments, court hearings, and check-ins. Volunteers stand alongside you, offering emotional support and serving as witnesses in case of any issues, including detention. To request accompaniment support, call the Deportation Defense Hotline at 1(844) 724-3737

Want to join the Accompaniment Program?

As an Accompaniment Volunteer, you provide more than just companionship—you serve as a witness in critical moments. If a detention occurs, you are trained to document the situation, notify loved ones, and connect impacted individuals with legal support. Your presence can make the difference between someone disappearing into the system or getting the immediate help they need.

Now more than ever, immigrant communities face uncertainty, fear, and systemic barriers in their fight for dignity and justice. Being in an immigration proceeding does not grant relief from deportation, and many attend these appointments alone, at risk of detention without warning.

Now is the time to show up, stand in solidarity, offer support, and bear witness. To schedule a training session to become an Accompaniment Volunteer, contact WAISN’s Deportation Defense Organizer at yahaira.padilla@waisn.org today.

Our general meeting is the third Thursday of every month, please join us on March 20 at 3 PM for the next one!

Rapid Response Organizer

P.S. If you’d like to report immigration activity, raids and detentions in Washington, please call the WAISN Deportation Defense Hotline at 1-844-724-3737. We have operators available Monday through Friday from 6am to 6pm to take your call. Our operators speak Spanish and English, and we have interpretation available in nearly 300 languages.

Update! The host location has developed Strep Throat, so in an abundance of caution, we're going to revert to the Pasco Round Table location. Sorry about the late notice! We do still plan to have our presenter from Save Our Wild Salmon.

As usual at the pizza location, Tri-City Democrats will order several pizzas to share. We'll have the donation box available for those who care to financially support the group. Some of our generous members are likely to purchase pitchers of beer to share. If you want the salad bar or soft drinks, you are on your own for those items.

We have scheduled the 'Save our Wild Salmon' group to come talk to us about the Snake River Dams and we will have 'Hate Has no Home Here' signs available.

Does the current water crisis in the Colorado River basin predict the future for Eastern Washington rivers?

    REGISTER HERE

Most experts agree that how our principal river systems are managed will tell the story. Water is essential for continued growth and economic success for the region, which is entering its third consecutive drought year. Reservoir storage in the Cascades is far below average with little sign of recovery.

The federal Bureau of Reclamation's latest water supply forecast says that irrigators in the Yakima Basin may receive less than half of their full entitlement this year. And it's not just Washington's eighty-billion-dollar agriculture industry that depends on water. The rivers provide water for our cities and industry, generate electricity, move all manner of commodities, and provide for our unique quality of life.
