WA Immigrant Solidarity Network – February 27, 2025

Posted on February 27, 2025

[Español Abajo]

As the Washington legislative session moves forward, we’re in a critical moment in the fight to ensure immigrant communities have access to the health coverage they need and deserve. We’re calling on all organizations committed to immigrant justice to sign onto our letter urging state legislators to fully fund the Apple Health Expansion (AHE) and address this inequity.

Last year, thanks to the work of our community members, organizational partners, and champions in the legislature, we secured funding to expand Apple Health, allowing over 12,000 low-income community members to access affordable healthcare for the first time.

This has been a life-changing step forward for so many people, but it’s only the first step to closing the gap for immigrant healthcare access in Washington. Without sustained and expanded funding, our community members risk losing this essential care. We cannot let that happen, so we’re calling on the legislature to:

  1. Fully fund the Apple Health Expansion to ensure that those already enrolled can continue to receive care;
  2. Expand funding to open enrollment for over 16,000 immigrants  who are still waiting for access to care;
  3. Invest in community-led outreach, accountability, and long-term solutions to this lack of access to care.

Healthcare is not a privilege, it’s a human right. Together, we can make sure immigrant communities in Washington are seen, valued, and have all of the tools they need to thrive. If you’re part of an organization that believes the same, sign onto our letter by Wednesday, March 5th and help us push for the funding our communities need and deserve.

SIGN ON

In solidarity,

Catalina Velasquez
Pronouns: She/Her
Executive Director

[English Above]

  1. Financiar completamente la Expansión de Apple Health para garantizar que las personas ya inscritas puedan seguir recibiendo atención;
  2. Aumentar la financiación para abrir la inscripción a más de 16,000 inmigrantes que siguen esperando para acceder a la atención médica;

Catalina Velasquez

Vote for Derek Sarley for State Representative!Derek Sarley is the only candidate left on the ballot that is committed to serving; Skyler Rude is running to be a placeholder and has already said he will NOT serve.
