WA Immigrant Solidarity Network – February 17, 2026

Posted on February 17, 2026

[Español Abajo]

In 2025, the WAISN Deportation Defense Hotline and our volunteer Rapid Response Teams received hundreds of reports of activity across Washington by federal immigration agencies.

We’ve seen that immigrant communities are often being targeted in plain sight—in public places like neighborhood streets and outside local businesses—often without warning or due process. That’s why we’ve been working to restart our updates on immigration enforcement activities, which will be shared regularly over email, to help you and your loved ones stay informed.

This update is part of our commitment to demystifying immigration enforcement activity, centering the real experiences of impacted communities, and exposing the violent systems that criminalize forced migration and profit from the caging and deporting of immigrants and refugees.

These numbers are not just statistics, they reflect stories of family separation, surveillance, and intimidation tactics that sometimes lead to deadly consequences.

In 2025 WAISN received more than 1,000 reports of immigration enforcement activity through our Deportation Defense Hotline and Rapid Response Teams—here’s what we saw:

Reports by County: Of those, we received confirmed reports of immigration activity from 30 out of 39 counties in Washington, with King, Yakima, and Whatcom counties having the highest number of confirmed reports.

Detentions: We documented confirmed reports of close to 650 individual detentions. The majority of them occurred during traffic stops, in public spaces—especially in parking lots—or during immigration check-ins.

Additionally, in 2025 our Rapid Response Teams responded to two raids (a targeted operation from immigration officers to detain a large group of people in a specific location, most commonly in work places), in Whatcom and King counties, where we documented that a total of 54 people were detained.

Trends to Watch: Throughout the year we documented escalations in enforcement practices and volume, with reports to the Hotline peaking during the spring and summer. That’s when masked immigration agents reportedly began more regularly surveilling our communities in unmarked vehicles, particularly during the mornings (6am-9am) and evenings (5pm-8pm) when people are coming to and from work or school. Many detentions appear to be warrantless arrests with no probable cause.

And our communities responded to meet this moment: Calls to the WAISN Hotline to report activity and detentions more than doubled from 2024, and we had more than 200 WAISN Rapid Response Team activations in 2025.

WAISN’s Rapid Response Network is an ecosystem of care, led by directly impacted people—including trans and queer immigrants—who are often the first targeted by this cruel detention and deportation system.

Nearly a decade of experience has taught us that crisis politics can create a surge of attention to this work, and just as quickly, retreat. Rapid response, as we practice it, is a long-term strategy and ensures that we are going beyond reacting to a political or social moment, building accountability and community resilience.

We’ve trained 3,000+ rapid response volunteers to date, many of whom have already started mobilizing, organizing, and developing situated and localized strategies to document and confirm reports of immigration activity in our communities and support impacted families.

You are not alone. We all have constitutional rights regardless of immigration status. If you see immigration enforcement first-hand or a loved one has been detained, please text or call the WAISN Hotline at 1-844-724-3737 from Monday through Friday 6am-6pm. If no organizers are available when you call our Hotline, please send a text to the Hotline number letting us know what you are calling about, and we will try to follow up if possible.

When reporting immigration enforcement activity, try to provide as many details with documentation as possible, including:

  • Date and time of sighting and activity
  • Street name and description of the area where it happened
  • Pictures and videos of the interaction
  • Descriptions of what agents were doing and wearing, and what vehicles were present

Our community will get through this together by keeping each other informed, making sure our friends and neighbors know their rights, and sharing only first-hand information about immigration activity to avoid unnecessary fear.

Please know that WAISN is here to support you. Our Rapid Response teams are ready, and our network remains alert—it was built for this moment.

In the face of threats and attacks on our collective safety, community will prevail.

In solidarity,

The Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network

[ENGLISH ABOVE]

Update! The host location has developed Strep Throat, so in an abundance of caution, we're going to revert to the Pasco Round Table location. Sorry about the late notice! We do still plan to have our presenter from Save Our Wild Salmon.

As usual at the pizza location, Tri-City Democrats will order several pizzas to share. We'll have the donation box available for those who care to financially support the group. Some of our generous members are likely to purchase pitchers of beer to share. If you want the salad bar or soft drinks, you are on your own for those items.

We have scheduled the 'Save our Wild Salmon' group to come talk to us about the Snake River Dams and we will have 'Hate Has no Home Here' signs available.

Does the current water crisis in the Colorado River basin predict the future for Eastern Washington rivers?

    REGISTER HERE

Most experts agree that how our principal river systems are managed will tell the story. Water is essential for continued growth and economic success for the region, which is entering its third consecutive drought year. Reservoir storage in the Cascades is far below average with little sign of recovery.

The federal Bureau of Reclamation's latest water supply forecast says that irrigators in the Yakima Basin may receive less than half of their full entitlement this year. And it's not just Washington's eighty-billion-dollar agriculture industry that depends on water. The rivers provide water for our cities and industry, generate electricity, move all manner of commodities, and provide for our unique quality of life.
