WA Immigrant Solidarity Network – August 7, 2026

Posted on August 7, 2026

[Español Abajo]

What is happening in Eastern and Central Washington is heartbreaking. We are all seeing the devastating impact of wildfires on families and communities across the region.

To everyone directly impacted: we see you. We hope that you and your loved ones are safe, and that anyone who needed to evacuate was able to do so safely.

Disasters like these do not affect everyone equally. Immigrant and refugee families often face additional barriers to receiving emergency alerts in a language they understand, replacing important documents lost in the fires, or asking institutions and government agencies for support—especially in this moment of heightened fear around immigration enforcement.

No one should be left without information or support because of their language, income, or immigration status. Whether you need help right now or are in a position to support others, we want to uplift some community organizations and resources to support those impacted:

RESOURCES FOR THOSE IMPACTED BY WILDFIRES
(Current as of August 7 – conditions and resources are changing quickly)

Manzanita House Spokane is sharing regular updates on their Instagram, and is maintaining a regularly updated list of local resources for support HERE.

Spokane Public Schools has released a full list of local resources to support impacted families in Spokane.

Unidos Nueva Alianza Foundation (UNA)is providing follow up support for community members and families impacted by the fires in Schawana and surrounding areas.

The Confederated Tribes & Bands of the Yakama Nation has curated a page with regular updates and resources for community members impacted by the Signal Peak, Ransier, and Red Sky fires.

You can also dial 211 from anywhere in WA to find current information about shelter, food, transportation, and other local assistance. Washington 211 has also created a dedicated Spokane wildfire resource page.

YOUR RIGHTS AT WORK DURING THE FIRES

These fires may also put many immigrant workers in a difficult position of having to choose between risking their health or losing income they depend on. Outdoor and agricultural workers often cannot simply escape the dangerous smoke, but no one should have to knowingly risk their health to support themselves.

WA employers have a responsibility to monitor wildfire smoke levels and take steps to reduce exposure if smoke levels become dangerous.

Workers also have the right to report unsafe working conditions or smoke-related symptoms and seek medical care without fear of retaliation.

If you report unsafe conditions and face retaliation, the WA Dept. of Labor & Industries (L&I) can help—contact any L&I office by calling 1-800-4BESAFE (1-800-423-7233), or by visiting: www.Lni.wa.gov/SafetyComplaints.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

WASHMASKS, a Mutual Aid organization supporting migrant & indigenous farmworkers is doing a pop-up donation drive this weekend in Seattle for migrant families and farmworkers impacted by the Spokane fires.

The Pacific Islander Community Association of Washington (PICA)is accepting support for Pasifika families impacted by the Spokane fires through its Spokane office.

In moments like this one, we must step up to help one another to ensure that no one has to go through this alone.

In care and solidarity,

The Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network

P.S. Please forward this email to anyone you know who may need these resources, or is in a place to help. You can also text and call the WAISN Hotline at 1-844-724-3737 if you need resource navigation support.

[ENGLISH ABOVE]

Ten years ago queer and transgender immigrants came together during a time of growing fear and uncertainty for immigrant communities to launch WAISN because no one else was coming to save us.

If you believe in this work, you know it takes resources to keep this movement going. Please donate today to help us build the next 10 years of immigrant justice for our communities.

Power our next 10 years

Time is running out to vote! Drop your ballot off at one of these ballot boxes: www.bentoncountywa.gov/government/elected_officials/auditor/elections/current_election/drop_boxes...If you know someone: a parent, sibling or friend, who doesn’t vote because they have a feeling it doesn’t matter.... Tell them to vote for their kids, to vote for their brother or sister, for their neighbor. It might matter to that other person and we are MUCH stronger when we do things for each other... not for ourselves. #vote #franklincountywa #bentoncountywa #tricities ...

In recognition of the opening of the Center for Recovery, the August 5 Badger Club Forum will feature an important conversation about causes, prevention and treatment of addiction. Two experts will consider what addiction is; the gap between what we know and what we do; what the community is and can be doing; what families need to know; and substance abuse prevention and looking to the future.
