WA Immigrant Solidarity Network – August 30, 2025

Posted on August 30, 2025

[Español Abajo]

This is Israel Gonzalez, WAISN’s Rapid Response Organizer, and I want to thank you for attending our General Meeting this month! Our monthly General Meeting allows community members from across Washington to share their experiences, discuss strategies for empowering their own local communities, and give us an opportunity to involve directly affected people in our strategic decision-making processes.

Just in case you missed it or if you had any questions, here is a brief summary of the most important points we discussed and ways you can get involved:

We are hiring!

Hotline Operations and People Development Manager – WAISN is seeking a Hotline Manager to oversee daily operations of the Deportation Defense Hotline, supervise a team of Hotline Organizers, and ensure trauma-informed, culturally competent, and caring services for callers while also maintaining a people-centered support system for the staff. Priority deadline: Sept 8.

Executive Associate – WAISN is looking for an Executive Associate to provide administrative support to the Executive Directors, manage schedules, coordinate meetings and travel, prepare reports, and ensure strong communication across departments and with external partners.

Operations Manager – WAISN is seeking an Operations Manager to lead day-to-day operations—including finance, HR, and IT—while supporting the Finance & Operations team, strengthening organizational systems, and advancing our organization’s mission through facilitating cross-team collaboration and problem-solving.

Language Justice Organizer – WAISN is looking for a Language Justice Organizer responsible for the coordination and implementation of internal and external strategies of multilingual interpretation, translation, and communication in alignment with WAISN’s vision, mission, organizing principles from the frame of language, power, and its many intersections.

Deportation Defense Hotline and Rapid Response

Save, share and use the WAISN Deportation Defense Hotline number—1-844-724-3737.

Call or text the Hotline 6am to 6pm, Monday to Friday to learn more about the rights that protect all Washingtonians, get support for detained persons, report immigration activity, request accompaniment to vulnerable locations, and to get connected with over 1400 immigration and community resources. Our Hotline organizers speak English and Spanish, and we offer interpretation in nearly 300 languages.

In July, we received reports of 53 detentions, and the hotspots were Yakima County and Tukwila (King County). The two most common types of detentions were traffic stops and ICE or USCIS check-ins. Two resources we can share to build community knowledge and resilience against these detentions: the Hotline number so that we can dispatch Rapid Response teams to verify and support impacted families and the Accompaniment program so that people don’t have to face check-ins alone.

At this month’s meeting, we shared a powerful moment where we invited attendees to bring in absent loved ones who had been impacted by the detention and deportation machine. We extend this invitation to you all: Who would you like to bring into your heart and thoughts at this moment?

To keep up to date on immigration enforcement activity, follow us on social media, where we share regular updates about the immigration enforcement activity reported through the Hotline and our Rapid Response Teams.

One tip Hotline organizers share with community members is the importance of being prepared. This month we talked about memorizing important phone numbers in the event of a detention, sharing Know Your Rights information, and talking about the Legal Counsel for Youth and Children Immigrant Safety Plan—a step-by-step guide that helps parents take control by choosing trusted caregivers and gathering important documents to make sure children stay safe and protected no matter what.

Get your family prepared in the event of detention

Support our Washingtonian community by downloading WAISN shareable resources and spreading the word to your friends and loved ones:

Know Your Rights with ICE Flyer – available in 11 languages

WAISN Bystander & Observer Guidelines

Know Your Rights with ICE Training – September 25th

Do you know what to do if ICE comes to your home or workplace? Do you know what a judicial warrant looks like? Come and learn all this and more in this training.

Policy and Advocacy

Virtual Session: Defending Immigrant & Refugee Rights in WA – Tuesday, Sept. 2nd

Join WAISN’s Policy & Advocacy team this Tuesday, September 2 at 6:00 PM for a community education session and discussion about data sharing practices being used by Washington state agencies and what we can do to take action and protect immigrant data.

General Meeting

Our general meeting is the third Thursday of every month, please join us on September 18 for the next one!

Zoom Information:

In solidarity,

Israel Gonzalez

P.S. If you witness immigration activity, raids, and detentions in Washington, please call or text the WAISN Deportation Defense Hotline at 1-844-724-3737. We have organizers available Monday through Friday from 6am to 6pm to take your call. Our team speaks Spanish and English, and we have interpretation available in nearly 300 languages.

[ENGLISH ABOVE]

Israel Gonzalez

Time is running out to vote! Drop your ballot off at one of these ballot boxes: www.bentoncountywa.gov/government/elected_officials/auditor/elections/current_election/drop_boxes...If you know someone: a parent, sibling or friend, who doesn’t vote because they have a feeling it doesn’t matter.... Tell them to vote for their kids, to vote for their brother or sister, for their neighbor. It might matter to that other person and we are MUCH stronger when we do things for each other... not for ourselves. #vote #franklincountywa #bentoncountywa #tricities ... See MoreSee Less

In recognition of the opening of the Center for Recovery, the August 5 Badger Club Forum will feature an important conversation about causes, prevention and treatment of addiction. Two experts will consider what addiction is; the gap between what we know and what we do; what the community is and can be doing; what families need to know; and substance abuse prevention and looking to the future.

    August 14, 2026  6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
4501 W Lattin Ct, West Richland, WA 99353, USA or Pasco Round Table

It's August, and by the time we meet (at 6pm on August 14th) we should know the result of the primaries! We are inviting candidates who have made it through the primary to come visit with us. We will also have 'Hate Has no Home Here' and 'Vote Blue' signs available.

We are hoping that it won't be too hot and smoky for a picnic at the farm - 4501 W Lattin Ct, West Richland, WA. We have plenty of shade and misters and sprinklers to take the edge off the heat. We have the Pasco Round Table reserved in the event that the weather does not cooperate, and we'll make a final announcement on Wednesday the 12th. Come gather with like-minded folks and share some fellowship, food and beverages. If we are picnicking, bring a dish to share, and Tri-City Democrats will provide utensils and plates, and napkins. If we're at the pizza location, TCD will purchase an assortment of pizzas to share. You're on your own for salad bar and beverages, though there are usually pitchers of beer provided by fellow members. We'll have the donation box available for those who care to financially support the group.
