WA Immigrant Solidarity Network – April 10, 2025

Posted on April 10, 2025

[Español Abajo]

Hello friends and advocates,

Last Monday, the Governor made a choice to protect the wealth of a few instead of the health and wellbeing of our communities.

By refusing to support a wealth tax in Washington, the Governor is handing this budget debate back to lawmakers with one clear message: more cuts to critical programs are coming. These cuts put every program that supports vulnerable community members at risk — from youth education, elder care, and resources for those who are houseless, to life-saving programs that we have fought for like Apple Health Expansion.

Unless we act now.

Let’s be clear, this isn’t just a policy debate. This is about the lives of our neighbors, our elders, and our children. Health care is a human right, not a bargaining chip. By refusing to consider all options for increasing revenue including making the ultra rich pay their fair share, our state has chosen to balance the budget on the backs of immigrant communities and working people—many of whom are already pushed to the margins—by cutting many of the programs we depend on.

That’s why the Health Equity for Immigrants Campaign has launched an email campaign to flood the inboxes of budget writers with one unified message: immigrant healthcare is non-negotiable and Apple Health Expansion must be off the chopping block and be fully funded.

Can you take 2 minutes to send an email demanding lawmakers fully fund Apple Health Expansion in this legislative session?

 Send a letter to lawmakers

Together, we can remind our electeds that immigrant justice isn’t negotiable, it’s necessary.

Sasha Wasserstrom

Vote for Derek Sarley for State Representative!Derek Sarley is the only candidate left on the ballot that is committed to serving; Skyler Rude is running to be a placeholder and has already said he will NOT serve.
