As I reflect on the journey that has brought me here, one value has guided me through it all: justice…Justice for our environment and for the people of Washington who rely upon clean air, clean water and healthy public lands.
With 25 years of experience in environmental policy and conservation, I’ve dedicated my career to translating values into action. From leading treks through the Cascade Mountains to crafting laws that protect Puget Sound, my focus has been on improving the lives of all people regardless of their background or differences.
But my fight for justice goes beyond policy. It’s personal. Growing up as a closeted gay kid, I endured my share of messages that were hurtful.
At the same time, I found my passion for the outdoors and for serving others by teaching environmental science to young people and leading treks through the North Cascades during my summers. These experiences shaped the leader I am today—one who believes deeply in fairness, equality, and respect for all.
Whether I’m standing up for tribal treaty rights, economic opportunity in rural communities, or protecting the natural beauty of Washington, my mission has always been to build a more inclusive and just future. As your Lands Commissioner, I will bring people together to manage our public lands for everyone, not just for corporations or a privileged few.
But to keep pushing forward, I need your help. With only 10 days left until ballots start arriving in mailboxes, your support will help us ensure justice is at the forefront of decision making at the Department of Natural Resources. Can I count on you to chip in $25, $100, $250 or $1000 today to keep this momentum going?
Your contribution of any amount up to the $2400 individual limit is deeply appreciated.
You are an important partner, and together we can protect Washington’s natural resources, uphold the values of fairness and justice, and ensure that people in every community benefit from our public lands. Thank you for standing with me.
Sincerely,
Dave
