A local newspaper recently called me the “gay Lorax”– a reference to the iconic Dr. Seuss character who “speaks for the trees.”
In a previous article, they noted that I was not opposed to “making the trees gay.”
While this coverage of my campaign for State Lands Commissioner was a fun tongue-in-cheek nod to the historic nature of my candidacy, I am finding myself in these final days of the campaign filled with a seriousness of purpose and sense of responsibility.
With your support, in four days I have the opportunity to be elected the first out LGBTQ statewide executive officeholder in the 135-year history of the State of Washington.
The late Harvey Milk noted that “the more people open their hearts to us, the less we will have to fight for our rights.” So many of you have opened your hearts to me during this campaign– finding common cause for equality and fairness as well as conservation values and responsible management of our public lands.
As you read this however, the logging industry is running $600,000 worth of negative dishonest TV ads– smearing my reputation in an attempt defeat me.
Please don’t let them succeed. We are so close to making history.
I am fighting back with TV and digital advertising of my own– but need help raising the funds in these final days to increase the reach and frequency of my ads.
Can you make a contribution today of $25, $50, $100, $250 or any amount up to $2400 to help make history?
We’ve made great strides since the late WA State Senator Cal Anderson served with integrity, dignity and courage.

But too many LGBTQ young people still are bullied or face rejection from their families. Too many young people sadly still take their own lives because of harmful messages they receive while they are coming to terms with their identity.
Representation matters.
Your contribution can make the difference in this very close race. You can be a part of making history.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your financial support.
