“At first the voter I spoke with was opposed to Zohran because she felt no one should get anything for free, but as we talked about her grandchildren and how important it was for her kids to be able to afford to stay in New York to raise her grandchildren, she started to consider how free childcare might help them. She promised to consider Zohran and look up what he stands for and share the information with her adult kids.” –Flora, national SURJ phonebanker sharing about a conversation with a potential voter
If Zohran Mamdani wins the New York City mayoral race, it will deal a massive blow to the billionaire class in the largest city in America – a win for all of us. You may have heard that disgraced New York City mayor Eric Adams just dropped out of the mayoral race. With Adams out, Wall Street bros and real estate moguls are hard at work propping up billionaire-funded Andrew Cuomo. But SURJ for a Livable New York is hard at work, too.
Alongside our coalition partners, we are working to elect Zohran by talking to hundreds of thousands of white New Yorkers about issues that matter most to them, like rent control, free public transportation, and childcare for all. Can you join us on the phones to block Cuomo’s billionaire backers and score a Zohran win for working class people everywhere?
With MAGA attacks on free speech, Trump deploying the national guard to majority people of color and progressive cities, and an onslaught of executive orders targeting anyone who disagrees with Trump, it can be tempting to hide away. However, taking action right now to organize other white people is one of the most powerful things we can do.
Like SURJ member Flora’s story above, every conversation we have is an opportunity to bring one more voter with us. A Mamdani win will be a sign of hope across our country that when working class people organize, and when white people do our part, we can win.

Can’t make the phonebank, but still want to help out? You can make a donation to SURJ for a Livable New York to support our work to elect Zohran.
In solidarity,
