My name is Isabelle and I’m a SURJ national member. I’ve been making calls for the Virginia Governor’s race because as a white person, I cannot sit on the sidelines and let MAGA use the electoral system to amass more power. ICE is terrorizing our immigrant neighbors and our rights are being violated daily. Not acting means risking my trans friends and family’s access to life-saving gender-affirming healthcare, my ability to afford having multiple children if I want, and having a planet that can sustain us living on it.
Virginia is the only Southern state where pregnant people still have a right to safe legal abortions. Yes, I have loved ones in Virginia, but I’d make calls no matter the state because I want to have rights tomorrow. And the next day. And the next day after that.
If white people with more privilege and safety allow anyone to be unsafe, then none of us are safe. Will you join me to make calls to white voters in Virginia to block MAGA from the Governor’s office?
I have plans for my life that I want to see through, like having kids and owning a home. I want to decide what happens to my body. And I want everyone else to have the freedom to build what they want with their lives, too. I know this future all depends on white people joining with Black, Brown and immigrant communities, so I’m joining SURJ phone banks to listen to what’s important to working class white people in Virginia. I want to be able to connect them to a concrete action they can take—to cast a vote against MAGA and billionaires—to make that future more likely to happen for all of us.
I’d love to see you on the Zoom with me because it feels a lot more powerful, a lot more possible, when we do this together.
