This Pride Month, we are loudly and unapologetically celebrating the queer people– especially the trans folks– in our lives. Just like being anti-racist, being pro-trans in our organizing is not only the right thing to do, it’s the only way we’ll win.
Avoiding talking about trans and queer people has the same effect as avoiding race: a deadly human toll and a wide open playing field for the far right to continue to use trans and queer people as scapegoats to cover the tracks of their billionaire agenda.
As you may know, we’re in the midst of a spring fundraising drive where every donation will be doubled by a generous donor. Can you give a gift today to support our work to out-organize MAGA’s deadly scapegoating strategies in white communities?
From the millions of phone calls we make in elections to our work on the ground in small towns in the South, SURJ is moving white folks across the country on issues of queer and trans identity.
This looks like a Kentucky People’s Union leader meeting a trans person for the first time at a community meeting– and then joining them at a rally at the statehouse. It looks like training hundreds of members to first validate voters’ struggles– and then agitate them towards blaming corporate overlords, not their neighbors.

SURJ is also a queer-led organization founded by queer Southerners with thousands of queer and trans members. This is not a coincidence. From healthcare to policing, white queer people have a clear understanding of our shared interest in the issues championed by racial and economic justice movements.
From the first Pride being a riot against violent policing to the work of ACT UP in the AIDS crisis to trans lives being on the line today, Pride Month has always been a call to action to fight for queer people.
Happy Pride!
