Over the weekend, millions of people– including many SURJers like you– mobilized in all 50 states for the Hands Off! actions. These mass mobilizations early on in Trump’s term are important low-barrier ways for people to experience courage and prevent the further consolidation of authoritarian power.
While most of the national coverage focused on big cities, there were also hundreds of rallies in small towns and rural communities– places deeply impacted by this administration’s policies and where showing up might have been a riskier action. And– mass mobilizations alone aren’t going to get us to the world we want. We must keep organizing. We must keep meeting masses of people where they’re at and bringing them deeper into action for the long-haul.
Did you attend an April 5 rally and are wondering what’s next? Inspired and ready to take on a new level of leadership in your organizing? Here are two ways to do that this week:
May 1 is International Workers’ Day and this year in cities across the country, we’ll be celebrating by joining with the Labor Movement to stand with immigrants, trans people, people of color, and those on the frontlines of attacks and against billionaires pitting us against each other. As a May Day rally host, you’ll receive coaching and a step-by-step organizing guide to either organize a group to attend a local action near you or to plan an action in your community.
Then, join us on Wednesday, April 9 at 8 pm ET / 5pm ET for an action hour to show up for immigrant communities. We’ll be partnering with “Never Again Action,” a Jewish-led mobilization against the persecution, detention, and deportation of immigrants in the United States. We’ll be taking action to stop a federal immigrant registry and protect immigrants from being targeted and rounded up by the government.
