There are now over 3,000 May Day actions in all 50 states. School districts across the country are shutting down on May 1 because teachers and students are planning walk outs. Actions against major corporations, teach-ins about the war in Iran, and small-town street corner protests are coming together in a coordinated action to demand: workers over billionaires.
Check out the May Day map below to find an action near you. And don’t forget to sign the pledge to commit to a day of no work, school, or shopping.
And then register for the final May Day mass call tomorrow, April 29, at 8 pm ET featuring one of SURJ’s own members alongside Liz Shuler, president of the AFL-CIO and other partner organizations across the country who will ground us in this historic moment and the importance of taking action this May Day.
White communities have a track record of being recruited by those at the top to reject solidarity with working class people of color and instead choose whiteness. And— we also have a powerful legacy of anti-racist white workers who refused to be divided by racism. Who stood together in the face of impossible odds.
This May Day, we’re claiming that legacy as our own. See you Friday!
In solidarity,
SURJ
