May Day 2026 is projected to be the biggest yet in US history– and it’s only eight days away. Momentum across the country is building– Durham public schools have officially cancelled school. The Chicago Teachers Union has negotiated a district-wide celebration of May Day. Unions and community organizations are calling on their members to call out and take action.
To contribute towards the momentum, we’re being called on to stand with them and take the May Day Pledge to commit to a day of no work, no school, no shopping. SURJ members have a goal of getting 2,000 people in our network to sign the pledge. Can you commit to a day of escalating against the billionaires, creating economic consequences for their greed, and participating in nation-wide noncompliance by signing the May Day pledge today?
This May Day will be a historic show of economic force against the billionaire agenda and Trump’s allies. SURJ’s partner Neidi Dominguez, founding executive director of Organized Power in Numbers and executive team member of May Day Strong, put it like this today in an article from the Guardian:
“The labor movement in our country cannot advance while ignoring the assault on democracy. And the pro-democracy movement can’t ask working people to defend abstract principles while they can’t afford housing, paying bills or accessing healthcare. We need a national movement that does both. That’s why labor and community organizations are throwing down hard this May 1.”
Sign the pledge and then we’ll see you May 1.
In solidarity,
SURJ
