Friends –

I want to take a moment to say Happy Earth Day!

As we celebrate our beautiful Mother Earth today and the rest of this month, let’s remember that our responsibility to these lands and each other is ongoing. Earth Day is every day.

“People forget that the soil is our sustenance. It is a sacred trust. It has worked for us for centuries. If we continue this thoughtless submission to pesticides, there will not be an abundance of food to bequeath our children.”

– Cesar E. Chavez

In the fight for climate and environmental justice, food justice, and racial and social justice, we must work together to heal and protect these lands. We must look to our Indigenous siblings who’ve cared for Mother Earth since time immemorial and who hold the knowledge and practices needed to lead us out of an extract economy and into stewardship that benefits us all. We must protect agricultural workers who put food on our tables while bearing the brunt of climate change.

From the forests to the river beds and from the most rural corners of our state to the growing cityscape, it’s our shared responsibility to ensure we are caring for and protecting these lands. Whether it’s standing up to big polluters or cultivating a community garden, each action we take can make sure this generation and future generations have a healthy, thriving environment.

Adelante,
