Friend,

I graduated from Tyee High School in SeaTac. The education I got there prepared me for my future – working for UPS, getting a law degree, and eventually, representing Washington’s 9th District in Congress.

Thanks to Washington’s new capital gains tax, Tyee High School received long-overdue funding for improvements that will help ensure another generation of Washingtonians gets a great public education.

But mega-millionaires want to repeal the capital gains tax with Initiative 2109, which would strip away funding for schools and childcare at the expense of Washington families.

Every Washingtonian deserves an education that prepares them for their future. That’s why I’m asking for your support. If you can, contribute today to the No on I-2109 campaign so we can protect funding for Washington state’s schools.

I’m working in Congress to ensure all Americans have access to a high-quality education, because it yields endless rewards: a better workforce, a stronger economy, and greater community engagement, to name just a few. I want Washington students to have the best public education they can get, regardless of their families’ income – and to achieve it, we must defeat I-2109 and preserve the capital gains tax.

The stakes in this fight go beyond education. If I-2109 passes, Washington will lose millions in funding for affordable childcare, further straining the working parents who cannot get back into the workforce without it.

The capital gains tax only applies to the wealthiest 0.2% of Washingtonians. Repealing it would put even more money in their pockets. Meanwhile, every single Washington family would suffer from the loss of funding for schools and childcare if I-2109 passes. It would mean a less educated workforce, a weaker economy, and fewer opportunities for our children in the future.

We can’t let I-2109 pass – and we need all the grassroots support we can get to defeat it. So I’m personally asking: Will you chip in to help the No on I-2109 campaign preserve this critical funding for Washington state?

Tyee High School is just one of 170+ school improvement projects the capital gains tax is funding. With your help, we’ll make sure every one of them gets done.

Thanks for your support,

Adam Smith
U.S. Representative for Washington State’s 9th District
