In a moment, I’m going to ask you to chip in before our end-of-month deadline. But first, let me tell you why reaching our goal and defeating Initiative 2109 is so important.

Hedge fund millionaire Brian Heywood has poured millions into getting I-2109 on the ballot so he can eliminate the capital gains tax Governor Inslee signed into law. Essentially, he’s trying to buy himself a tax cut, no matter the cost to the rest of us. Keep in mind: This tax only applies to extreme Wall Street profits – it does not apply to the sale of a home, small business, farmland, farm equipment, or anything in a retirement or college savings account.

If the capital gains tax is repealed, Washington would lose billions of dollars in funding for childcare and education. Mega-millionaires like Heywood can afford the capital gains tax, but Washingtonians can’t afford to lose any more funding for childcare and education.

But protecting our progress won’t be easy. To fight back against the millions Heywood is spending to pass I-2109, we need the support of this grassroots team.

Before our end-of-month deadline at midnight, chip in $5 or whatever you can afford to help us reach our goal, defeat I-2109, and save our state’s investments in children and families.
