My name is Gabriel Neuman, and I serve as the Director of Policy & Advocacy at GSBA, Washington State’s LGBTQ+ & Allied Chamber of Commerce. Our work focuses on expanding economic opportunity and building a more inclusive, thriving future for LGBTQ+ Washingtonians and everyone who supports equality.
I’m reaching out today because I’m proud to stand with No Hate in WA State—and because this moment couldn’t be more urgent for us.
This November, Washington voters will face IL26-001 and IL26-638, which would roll back protections and rights for LGBTQ+ youth in our state. They would make schools less safe, undermine trust between students and educators, and send a clear message that Washington is no longer a place where everyone belongs.
For me, this is personal.
I spent part of my childhood in Washington’s foster care system after experiencing abuse at home. During that time, I relied on trusted teachers and counselors—adults I could speak to confidentially, who helped me navigate incredibly difficult circumstances.
These initiatives would put that kind of support at risk. We can’t let that happen. They would require schools to disclose sensitive conversations to parents upon request, removing a critical layer of safety for young people who may not have a safe home environment. It’s harmful to our students, our educators, our communities, and the future of our state.
Washington has long been a state known for its openness and forward-thinking values. These measures threaten that foundation.
But here’s the truth: when people understand what’s at stake, they stand with us.
That’s why No Hate in WA State is working on the ground to educate voters, build support, and protect Washington’s students. And it’s why your support today matters so much.
Thank you for standing with us,
Gabriel Neuman
