I want to take a moment to talk to you about an issue that is incredibly important to me, and I hope it’s important to you too: gun safety.
As you may know, Washington is one of the best states in the nation for gun control. Over the last decade we have made great strides in implementing common-sense gun safety laws that protect our communities and save lives. But now, we are facing a serious challenge.
My right-wing opponent, Pete Serrano, and his organization, the Silent Majority Foundation, have been working tirelessly to roll back the progress we have made. They are currently representing a gun retailer that was accused of selling thousands of high-capacity magazines after a ban went into effect.
In fact, I’m facing off against Serrano and his organization in court to defend Washington’s assault weapons ban, which Serrano is seeking to have declared unconstitutional.
Serrano is extreme, but I want you to hear this from me: As Attorney General, I will do everything in my power to protect the progress we’ve made for gun safety in Washington.
One of my proudest accomplishments as an attorney was helping write Initiative 1639: Safe Schools and Safe Communities. This landmark legislation, approved by nearly 60% of Washington voters, regulates deadly weapons of war and ensures safe storage for all firearms. Measures like these save lives, and I will always fight for common sense gun safety laws, including eliminating ghost guns and keeping high-capacity magazines off our streets.
I will keep fighting tooth and nail to protect our communities and ensure the safety of all Washingtonians, but I need your help. We can’t afford to miss this opportunity to keep Washington safe — too much is at stake.
Thank you!
