That’s all that separates our friend Dave Upthegrove from his Republican challenger in an incredibly tight race to advance to the general election for Washington’s Commissioner of Public Lands.

Election officials in every single county in Washington have been hard at work doing a mandatory hand count of the ballots to make sure that every single vote is recorded — and Dave needs help right now to pay for the unexpected recount expenses and refill his coffers for a very competitive general election.

If Dave is locked out of the general, two Republicans will square off in the race for Commissioner of Public Lands, who oversees the Washington Department of Natural Resources, responsible for protecting our forests and other environmental protections in the state.

We need an environmental and social justice leader as the steward of our six million acres of state land — someone who has actionable plans to mitigate the climate crisis and take real steps forward to conserve and protect Washington’s public land. Dave is that leader, and it is imperative that he has the resources he needs for his recount and the general election.
