Memorial Day is an important day for my family. My mom, dad, and I are all proud veterans, and today, we remember fellow servicemembers who made the ultimate sacrifice to serve our country and protect our freedoms.

My parents met while serving at Walter Reed Medical Center, where my mom, Pat, was an Army nurse and my dad, Hank, was a medical logistics officer. He went on to serve in Vietnam, where over 58,000 brave U.S. servicemembers lost their lives, and retired from his 26-year military career as a Colonel.

I was raised to understand the value of democracy and public service and the importance of using my voice to fight for our rights. That’s why after I graduated from law school, I served as a JAG Attorney in the U.S. Army, which took me across the country and to Iraq.

My time in the Army had an incredible impact on my life — and it made me a stronger advocate for military families. Throughout our combined decades of service, my parents and I have all seen the impact on families and communities when a loved one dies in the line of duty.

I’m committed to ensuring that fallen soldiers who served our country are never forgotten, and that military families have the medical care, resources, and support they need.

With our fundamental rights under threat, we must honor the fallen by continuing their fight to safeguard us and our freedoms right here at home in Washington. This Memorial Day, please join me, my parents, and my team in taking time to honor the sacrifices of fallen servicemembers who have made the ultimate personal sacrifice to keep our communities and country safe and free.

Thank you,

Nick
