Today marks 25 years since the Columbine High School shooting.
Since April 20, 1999, there have been over 400 school shootings. Gun violence is the leading cause of death for children in Washington and across the country. This is unacceptable. Everyone has the right to be safe in school and in their communities.
Columbine sparked a national discussion about the devastating impact of mass shootings and the urgent need for decisive action and strategies for prevention. Washington now has some of the strongest gun laws in the nation, and Nick is proud to have helped support the defense of some of our gun laws — but there is still much we can do to address gun violence.
Preventing gun violence includes promoting safety in schools and on our streets. One of Nick’s proudest accomplishments as an attorney was helping write landmark legislation to regulate deadly weapons of war and ensuring safe storage for all firearms. The legislation was approved by nearly 60% of Washington voters, proving that our communities are hungry for change.
As Attorney General, Nick will continue to fight for common-sense gun safety laws, like eliminating ghost guns and keeping high-capacity magazines off of Washington’s streets.
Thank you for sharing Nick’s commitment to a safer future for all Washingtonians.
